A classic game that reminds me of Age of Empires but for Halo. It was fun and addicting. Easy campaign and gameplay, but the real fun came from online play with other like minded individuals. Games would become very spicy and I loved it.

The controls were always choppy at best and the graphics are usually dumbed down to such an extent that you get the feel the game is much older than it really is. The graphics push the boundaries of the console more so than most, pulling off stunning visuals without any flaws. Gameplay is smooth, and even with hundreds of units on the board it never lags. It supports full HD output, making the picture and color sharp and vibrant. However, as impressive as the graphics are, they are not the best quality Halo Wars has to offer. This honor belongs solely to the intuitive control system. The controls are comfortable and give a level of control equivalent to the mouse and keyboard. The layout is perfect, meaning that you will not have to dig through mounds of menus just to find a function you need. The control system is so fluid and smooth that at times it is easy to forget that you are even playing on a console. Multiplayer is another great feature of Halo Wars, offering some of the most grueling matches I have ever seen. New DLC adds to the already extensive list of maps and play modes, offering even more replay value to this title. Multiplayer isn't the only gameplay worth while though...You can set up skirmishes to sharpen your skills against various levels of AI, or you can take on campaign mode alone or with a friend. The story is compeling and adds even more flavor to the Halo universe. Be advised that this game is nothing like the Halo games, and therefore may not be inline with all Halo Fan's interest. However, if you are an RTS fan, this is a must play as it is the best RTS since Starcraft. Indeed, many of Starcraft's best elements can be found here, displaying the impact it made on the Halo Wars development team. SOUND: EPIC! 9/10 Graphics: Amazing! 9/10 Functionality: Perfect! 10/10 Gameplay: Awesome alone or with friends! 9/10 Replay Value: Extremely High Thank you for reading my review. I hope it helps you make an informed buying decision. Lord Sypherdias

I would play this game & think true fans of PvZ will really get hooked
7 June 2014

So this is an interesting game. Either you like it or you hate it. The conflict that everyone has with the game is that you have to have a Gold membership in order to play the garden warfare. It was EA Sports' way of putting a smidge of battlefield with Call of Duty & splashing the traditional pop cap game "Plants vs. Zombies" into the game. The replay for this game is pretty high. My personal recommendation is to not complain or buy the game if you don't like the online only feature. This is the same way Titanfall is when you think about it. The purpose of these games are to network you with other friends you have or meeting new gamers to game with. I enjoy the game. I only give it a 4 because you have to make sure other people you know own the game since there is ... MoreSo this is an interesting game. Either you like it or you hate it. I only give it a 4 because you have to make sure other people you know own the game since there is no split screen, which isn't a complaint for me, but a thought that many people who are looking at this game have to take into account. There is no campaign or multiplayer where up to four player can play.

It's exactly as it looks. a quality game good as new!
22 February 2022

It works great! The condition is good as new and it works pretty good! There's also still a pretty big community playing GW1 on Xbox 360 as there is on the Xbox One version, which is surprising but yet good news. This game requires Xbox Live Gold, but if you already have that, this is a no-brainer, this is a simply must have and get! I must say sometimes the server connections to the online game can be buggy sometimes, but that cause is often the fault of internet connection, not the game. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I know it's kind of long but all rest assured this is a great game to have in your collection.

My First Real-Time-Strategy
3 June 2009

The real-time strategy genre hasn't had much evolving to do since it's conception. If it gets to complicated, people generally get lost or lose interest, and if ti's too simple, gamers looking for a challenge will end up wanting so much more out of a game that rapidly becomes hollow. Halo Wars is a prime example of the latter. As an avid RTS fan, I've played pretty much every RTS that I could get my hands on, and Halo Wars comes closer to the original Dune games than Command and Conquer. It was built to sell off the Halo franchise, and features controls that pretty much anyone can use to beat the game. For someone used to an RTS, however, they feel clunky and unsophisticated - And not just because it's on a console. There is no real difficulty slider, as your enemies are all easily crushed or destroyed even on hard. Resource gathering is done completely without player assistance, and unit control is handicapped by the inability to assign groups, group multiple units of different types in a wide area, and by giving the player random 'next army' command. The unit cap is far too low, while ensuring that the player does have to send troops off regularly, means that alternating between attack and defense becomes a chore. Not only due to losing one or the other, but the rigour that the game creates in trying to move defensive troops out of a group. The game is reasonably attractive, but still doesn't have the graphical splendour of it's rivals in the RTS market, however the only real selling point I can see for this game is the link to the Halo Franchise. In fact, the only reason I bought it was for the early release of Halo: Mythic that came with the ltd edition. If this is your first RTS, by all means, hire it out or borrow it off a friend. But if you've played a few before, you can find better games than this easily. Final word?It makes Age of Empires seem like Rocket Science. 'Nuff Said.

I bought this for a friend as a gift, and it arrived in pristine condition! I’m not sure if the game actually works, but I haven’t received any complaints from my friend, so I think it does! Thanks :)

Very shallow game play and plot
10 December 2017

In terms of a real time strategy game Halo Wars is extremely shallow and lacks tactical controls compared to other games in this genre. The plot on the game is forgettable and overall terrible and it's a shame too because the cut-scenes are very good looking between missions. I found myself watching the cut-scenes but overall not really caring what happened between or during missions to the main characters in the game. Missions go from either escorting a limited amount of units around the screen to other ones where you build/control bases. Combat can be described as spam build units in your base until you max out the population allowed, press the button that selects all the units on the map, and press "X" to send them all to the designated objective. Sometimes you have a limited time to perform said objective but this doesn't really make the mission require any additional thought process. There are no formations in the game, very limited amount of units available to build, very limited amount of upgrades, units go wherever they please once you send them to an area making the combat frustrating, and lastly there is a lack of clear balance between both air and land units.I understand at the time it was very difficult to make real time strategy games on a console such as the Xbox 360 hence I give Halo Wars three stars instead of only two.

WILL NOT PLAY AT ALL without an Xbox Live Gold paid subscription, EACH PLAYER on the same console needs THEIR OWN SEPARATE paid subscription
8 February 2020

To play this game on an XBox 360 console, the game requires that each player have an XBox Live Gold paid subscription. At the time of this review, a subscription to XBox Live Gold costs $10 per month on a monthly renewal, or $60 per year on an annual renewal. This game WILL NOT PLAY AT ALL, not even in a single player mode, without a paid subscription. The free XBox Live subscription is not enough. Even worse, because each player is required to have an XBox Live Gold paid subscription, siblings and friends can't play together on the same console unless they also have a paid subscription.

Well-rounded & built. One of the best RTS games on the market!
8 February 2013

I'll make this short and sweet... Gameplay: 10 The Halo Franchise has been one of my favorites since the Xbox launch. This offering is done as a Real Time Strategy (RTS) game. With a short tutorial, the controls become intuitive in a very short period of time. Audio: 10 - Players can hear communications, vehicle and battle sounds as if they were really there. Video: 10 - Top-down, angled, crisp and detailed default view. Re-playability: 10 - Trying different tactics and difficulty levels make this title highly re-playable. Add-ons are available for purchase through Xbox Live. Overall: 10 - Truly a wonderful experience for RTS (and non-RTS) fans.
