CAUTION: make sure you have/provide eye protection when using this rock hammer. My son has become an avid fossil hunter and we often return from beach and hiking outings with 5-10 pounds of "fossil rocks". He's been using other rocks, or my claw hammer, to break rocks open, risking crushed fingers and/or ruining my hammer. So we went professional with this 14-oz, single piece, drop-forged Estwing rock hammer. Perfect weight for the little guy, sure-grip handle, a tool designed for "rock-hounds", and tool he's proud to own and call his fossil hammer.

My dad had a Estwing hammer and used it forever. Now that my youngest is interested in fossils and rocks it seemed a good deal to purchase an Estwing for him. We will explore the Mississippi River bottom land,

I haven't had the chance to use this hammer much yet but it seems to work as advertised. It's overall quality appears to be outstanding. I have other Estwing hammers and they are mighty little tools. I would expect this one to be no different.
Bought this rock pick for my wife who has smaller hands and wanted a light weight tool. This is a perfect size for her and would probably work for a school-aged child. Having owned other Estwing hammers and hatchets I feel confident that it is a quality item that will hold up well over years of service. Tool arrived in a timely manner and was well packeged. Thanks
To be fair, I gave this as a gift to a friend of mine who is a rabid geologist. She is the intrepid type who finds joy in crawling into caves and traveling to desolate areas to mine rocks. She went nuts over it. This is the type of Rock Pick which is light weight, yet has enough heft to pick and hammer just about anything out of the earth. Takes an absolute beating, and is less prone to chipping and breaking than one she had destroyed previously. I am her new hero, apparently.
This is definitely the standard by which Geologists and rock hounds should use. Fits perfect in hand, weighted and balanced just right. Rubber grip excellent shock absorption. Buy no other.
Took out for Az rock hounding. It's strong enough to get thru some hard desert rocks. The weight of it is truly helpful. I'm female and can easily heft this. So glad I bought this.
I and colleagues have used these and the larger type professionally for over 50 years. Nearly indestructible. Dependable in the extreme.
Exactly the rock pick I needed for older Grandchild. Light weight. Shiny new. Shock absorbing handle has enough textural grip to stay in one's hand.
