I previously owned a Chinese made imitation 'knock-off' model, purchased via Amazon. It was OK (until my wife boiled it dry) but certainly didn't have the 'fit & finish' of this Japanese made kettle. My only complaint is that I wish this kettle's top cover fit more snuggly (the Chinese one did). I also wish the middle hole in the cap was large enough to stick a thermometer in (Chinese one had a built-in thermometer). I realize I can purchase the separate cap, with digital thermometer for this kettle, but it's quite pricey. I was previously under the impression these kettles were only available via eBay/international sellers, so I was ecstatic to see Prima offered them stateside!

Do not buy this! I have only had it for a few months and the inside of the tea kettle is leaching the stainless steel into the water ! You are drinking chemicals. Photos below of the inside of the tea kettle. Do not buy this!!!!

I switched from an electric kettle to the Hario stove-top kettle made in Japan with 18/8 stainless steel since electric kettles without any plastics in-contact with water is hard to find. The narrow spout design allows precise control when pouring water but it might be difficult to clean. The build quality is great but the steam vent design is not the best, it directs the steam upward towards the knob. I've only been using this kettle for a few weeks and the edge of the plastic knob has already slightly melted due to the high temperature steam.I know this is a kettle meant for pour-over coffee making but I hope Hario can design another model with a whistle in the future.

First gooseneck kettle for me, and I can’t see any reason why it won’t be my last. Made in Japan quality hopefully holds up. It heats up relatively quick with the right flame size, pours very smoothly, and looks good on the stovetop. Only downside is I have to be careful with flame size on gas stove not to burn the plastic handle and lid. I would probably buy this again even if it failed. 10/10 thanks!
I was very excited when I first purchased this kettle having finally found a solution for pour over coffee using a steady stream of water. However after a few short months I noticed debris floating around the water. On closer inspection inside the kettle you can see where the metal has peeled off the interior into the water. This product should be banned from sale until the problem can be corrected as it is very unhealthy to be ingesting metal of any kind. Now I am on the search for an alternate solution. Very disappointing as the engineering of the product is genius. I will take this back to the store and hopefully will be able to get a refund though it is past their 30 day return window.
This is a fairly simple metal manual kettle - I heat it up on the stove, it makes a nice sound as it starts to boil, it pours fairly well and I just need to work on my own technique from here.Haven't burnt myself so the handle seems sufficient. Not much else to it.
This kettle does the job as advertised. Great pour from the spout. Keep in mind that is a faster pour than many other goosenecks so you'll need some practice to get it just right. Once you get the hang of it, it's perfect. It does not have any temperature indicator, but you can easily get around that by using a quick read electronic food thermometer. I found it does take a while to heat up on my gas range, so some patience is needed. However, all that is worth the ability to fully clean the kettle without worry about electronics and the satisfaction that there are basically no points of failure.
I've only had it a couple weeks but so far so good. I read and followed the instructions. I handle it delicately, as it does seem to be kind of a delicate item. It does not whistle, but the steam really starts coming out the top when the water is boiling. It's noticeable, at least if you're in the same room. I usually take off the top and let it cool for a few minutes then use a candy thermometer (which I already had) to check the temperature for around 200 F. Made in Japan as advertised. One thing I read in the instructions is the recommended capacity is only 0.6 L, whereas the full capacity is 1.0L. (Makes sense, but I didn't think about it when I bought it.) So if you need to use the entire 1.0L, you may want to get the larger kettle. This one works fine with my ... MoreI've only had it a couple weeks but so far so good. Scorched my Kalita kettle a few weeks ago and bought this Hario as a replacement. It states that it's Made in Japan on the bottom and so far, so good. The quality of the build is excellent, no hint of rust. The pour rate is faster than the Kalita but not uncontrollable. The base is the same size as the small element on my electric stove which is one improvement over the Kalita. I usually brew a single cup at a time, so the 1 liter size works for me. I'd definitely want a bigger kettle if I regularly brewed multiple cups though. Looks nice and does the job.
i've been heating water for single serving teas in a 0.5 qt butter warmer for years now and thought to finally get a kettle. my standard tea kettle is too bulky and too much water and has a strange coat of something on the inside which is flaking off...so, i found this one, insisted on the japanese made version (the chinese made one is floating on other sites) and i am astonished at how incredible it works. it boils water on my electric ceramic top range in 5 minutes and the pour on it...is so elegant. i was worried i would bristle at the classical styling on it as i'm more on the contemporary side of design lines, but the design is very fresh despite the outline. it is one of the most graceful moments of my otherwise chaotic and clumsy days. a con? i drink more tea ... Morei've been heating water for single serving teas in a 0.5 qt butter warmer for years now and thought to finally get a kettle. my standard tea kettle is too bulky and too much water and has a strange coat of something on the inside which is flaking off...so, i found this one, insisted on the japanese made version (the chinese made one is floating on other sites) and i am astonished at how incredible it works. it boils water on my electric ceramic top range in 5 minutes and the pour on it...is so elegant. i was worried i would bristle at the classical styling on it as i'm more on the contemporary side of design lines, but the design is very fresh despite the outline. it is one of the most graceful moments of my otherwise chaotic and clumsy days. a con? i drink more tea now. enjoy your kettle!
