I’ve been skiing and snowboarding for 30 years and these are by far the best gloves I have ever used. They are not cheap and I get that but you get what you pay for. They are very light so when I first got them I was afraid they might not be warm enough but the first time I used them in 30 degrees they were too warm. I had to take them off to cool off my hands. The wrist straps work well and the leather is super soft. The dexterity is better then I expected. I conditioned it with the balm that came with them and the leather feels good and got a little darker. It’s long enough that it covers over my jacket very well. The only thing it might be missing is a pocket for lift pass or hand warmer. But I have a pocket in my jacket sleeve to hold my pass so it doesn’t ... MoreI’ve been skiing and snowboarding for 30 years and these are by far the best gloves I have ever used. Plus I really like how light they are so it’s a good trade off. All in all I would definitely buy them again and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a great glove.

I like to X-country ski for recreation. I live in New Jersey, hardly The Great White North as far as cold, but I have been searching for any kind of glove or mitten that would keep my hands warm from the start. I'm still looking. These pricey mitts are no better than nearly any other type --- several types of "ski" gloves or even ragg wool gloves with leather palms --- that I've tried. Like all the others, my fingers freeze in these Hestras for the first twenty minutes of skiing 'til my body temp rises, so I have to stop and curl my fingers into my palm to warm them. It was also a disappointment that Hestra makes these in China; I had assumed for the price that they'd be made in Sweden. For starters, Hestra’s size selection allows for a more precise fit. Any 3 finger model is a slight compromise over a mitt for warmth, but you can always bring your index finger in as needed. They are reasonably warm, though not expedition gloves, and I expect to throw in warmers for temps in the low single digits (F), or below. The wrist/cuff adjustments function well. The soft leather makes for a very supple feel and were fairly nimble when tinkering with gear. The wrist strap/handcuffs were overkill for me and swapped with a traditional straps. Haven't owned long enough to attest to the durablity.

My fingers tend to run cold and these are great with an extra Smartwool liner glove (make sure you size up slightly to accommodate the thickness of your additional liner glove). Using a liner glove also allowed me to keep the individual finger feeling like regular gloves, which I prefer over straight-up mittens, as well as keep me from exposing my bare fingers to the elements if I need to take the Hestras off for extra dexterity. Construction quality is top notch and the included wrist lanyards ensure you don't lose your investment on the chairlift. Totally worth the price if you're an avid skier.
I have worn these gloves a 1/2 dozen times since purchase. The weather being a low of about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Hands have stayed warm than with other gloves that I own. Index finger does get a bit cold. I have found there is enough room in the 3 finger box to easily put index finger and use as a mitten for extra warmth. After reading reviews I was worried about the quality. I haven't put them through the test yet to rate the long term quality but for now seam hood.
Exceptional Quality! Warm and Cozy garage for my fingers.I love that these have the removable liners so that I am able to keep them clean and dry between wearing. These are the gloves that I wear on the coldest days in Minnesota shoveling snow or snow-shoeing. The added wrist strap has saved me from dropping one when I am outside and need to pull my hand out quickly to zip a zipper or grab something.
I have cold hands and decided to purchase new gloves with a budget of $200. I ski mostly Utah and after forum reviews and speaking with staff at REI, I settled on 3 finger Hestra gloves. Well, at 0 to 3 degree weather and winds 15 to 30 miles on lifts there not windproof, waterproof and index finger got cold and I used the mitten. I did waterproof them as suggested on the tag with lube the gloves came with. The leather is so soft I was afraid to pick up ski's to not rip them. Made great for snow balls and cold weather without winds. I am thinking either a mitten or outdoor research gloves made with gore tex wind proof instead.
I have owned several pairs of waterproof mittens before, but none have held up to Montana's cold nights like these. I use them mostly to bike commute and on winter hikes. The lobster claw lets me shift the bike's gears, but it isn't easy - definitely took some practice to get it right. I love the gauntlet material that cuffs around coats. I believe it makes a big difference in warmth by not letting air into the sleeves. I also appreciate that this model has removable liners. I believe Hestra sells replacement liners, so that will extend the life of the gloves. This glove isn't for everyone though. It's way too warm to wear in temperatures above freezing, and it's hard to get all of your fingers moving to avoid cramps. Hestra warns the gloves can bleed dye on your clothes as well, so you need to be careful how you store these. For the longest life for the gloves, it includes a small sachet of leather balm. This will slightly darken the pure white leather into something a little more gray, but will improve the flexibility of the leather and waterproofing. I recommend it, but it's one more piece of gear you need to think about maintaining.Sizing is extremely important with gloves. Too tight and you get cold from lack of circulation. Too big and you lose a lot of dexterity. I am normally between an XL and XXL in most gloves, and a size 11 fit me well here. I highly recommend going into a store and trying on several sizes.Final thoughts - these gloves are my heavy armor against sub-zero temperatures. They are complete overkill in any temperatures above freezing, but they do their job extremely well. These gloves are not for casual wear. You already know if you need something like this. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!
I used them for backcountry snowboarding for about one full season and went out about every week on average. The leather peels off and sticks to skins almost immediately, the fingers where I clear snow off splitboard connections developed a small hole in leather, and edges of board easily cuts into palm if you have to carry board. I had cheaper OR gloves for 4 seasons and they looked better than one season of huestra. They are very warm for temps in single digits although the pointer finger gets cold at times. Great dexterity and compacted well in bag but don’t last at all for such a high price. I returned them.
Bought these gloves last year after reading rave reviews. 1st day I use them a little tab on the pull string breaks off before I even strapped into my board, no big deal I figured. Used the wax on them prior to my trip expecting some semblance of waterproofing since they're meant for the snow, which is just frozen water, so you know I figured they should keep that water off my hands. Well I was wrong, my hands were wet from an hour into riding until I was done. Still kind of liked them though and they were still warm so whatever. On about my 7th or 8th day I slide out on a groomer and stick my hand out to catch myself, and when I get to the bottom of the hill I notice the ENTIRE palm is completely shredded. On about my 7th or 8th day I slide out on a groomer and stick my hand out to catch myself, and when I get to the bottom of the hill I notice the ENTIRE palm is completely shredded. I've been boarding for 25 years, and I've done that exact maneuver 100s of times, and NEVER has a glove just melted from touching some slightly icy groomer snow. I contacted Hestra, and after about 20 back and forth emails they refused to cover them, saying I must have shredded them up carrying my board which is 100% not the case. So much for a lifetime warranty. If a glove can't handle touching icy snow, then either it's defective or the design is horrible. They did however offer me a 30% off coupon if I ever decided to buy any more of their garbage products. Stick to Black Diamond, I had a pair of those for 8 years with no problems, and bought a pair last year to replace these garbage gloves and they still look perfect.
