These are supposed to be great, and maybe they are. I have some Grado 80s, and I sort of like their house sound. Which is very different than the Sundaras. Might go without saying. I’m trying to adapt. Retrain my ears. Or brain. Sundaras are well built, comfortable, and do sound good. I’m no expert, but I guess with most hifi gear, you have to learn what you like/expect, and the only way to do this is by trying different headphones or gears. It’s probably why many people have multiple pairs of headphones. No regrets on the purchase.

Any sound these cans produce simply become part of the roomscape. If you own airpods pro, its like leaving transparency mode on and yet, the Sundaras still manage to produce more transparency; they are just a hair shy of being completely transparent, as if you arent even wearing headphones and it helps that they are lightweight to boot. Powering these cans suprisingly doesnt take much to accomplish that great signature airy, detailed sound. Im running these off my iPad 7th gen, using the Apple lightning dongle, and it surprised me how much better these sound over my Oppo PM3sthe portable cans. Of course, a more powerful source, a dedicated amp-dac, definitely does these headphones more justice than any smartphone, computer or tablet but if youre looking for a great sounding pair of portable cans, than the Sundaras are top of their class for the performance-cost ratio.

I gave it time and boy did it blow my mind. What a great headphone! The soundstage and the imaging of sound opened up and I could listen to each note so clearly. I could hear the texture in the sound of the guitar strings being strummed or plucked. I could precisely pinpoint where everything was being played, and in live tracks, I could make out where each instrument and vocalist is present. A live performance of Hotel California, and I could pin point where and in which direction from, each cheer is coming from! If that wouldn't blow your mind, what would! The bass is neat and textured which I thoroughly love! I can no longer stand boomy bass and crappy treble. I also had my fiancee listen to it, and her eyes went wide open listening to it!I had tried Dolby Atmos for Headphones on my ATH-AR3BT, but it just seemed to make things a bit louder, but not really anything specially different. Slightly better imaging I guess.With the Sundara, Dolby Atmos for Headphones is a whole other ballgame. One word: IMMERSIVE. Movies with Dolby encoded audio is just phenomenal. It's raining in the movie and I can genuinely say from the audio that it actually is!While watching videos and stuff, if I hear a loud thud or a door slam, I do, check if it was in my room or if it's in the video.You do have to note that the recording quality of the track makes a big difference. I've been enjoying a lot of different genres with these headphones that earlier I never really enjoyed as much. Recent old bollywood songs are just so enjoyable on this.After a lot of positive comments, I will have to mention, the drawbacks too. And remember, this is not a headphone designed to be portable, it does not replace my place for the ATH-AR3BT. Those still do sound good with certain tracks and games, they have a different quality of sound to it and are light and portable. I find that the clamping force is a bit too strong and it causes pain in my neck when I use it for too long. I do not recommend wearing this for long hours for things like during working. I find it is excellent to lie down and listen to. These headphones are big, the only direction you can look is up, lol. Great lounging headphones in my opinion.The next drawback, that everyone talks about in the review, is the wire. Really weird quality wire. I have no idea why Hifiman refuses to put in decent wires. At this price point, I would have loved to see a case, and some decent wire be included.Apart from this, these are really great, and an easy recommendation to anybody who is interested in high quality audio. Really worth the money, and it's built like a tank, so I can say it's a worthy investment.

I did compare these with Sennheiser HD 650, HD 660S, HarmonicDyne Zeus and Beyerdynamic 990 Pro (all these are Dynamic Drivers), however the reviews were overwhelmingly positive towards Sundara, not to mention these are used as reference for any comparison shootouts for this a this price range and sometimes well above it price range.There are many other reviews describing how they sound, so I will keep it short. If you are looking for full sized headphones below INR 30,000 budget, this is where your search would or should end.PS: Needs amplification and will scale better depending on the ... Sound great . Very detailed. Good sense of separation. I bought the Fiio K7 at the same time. My reference is Dragonfly black DAC with Creative Aurvana Trio LS . The Sundara's sound similar. Enough Bass for Me. I previously bought 660s SENNHEISER HD along with Dragonfly cobalt and quickly returned both. I though I would stick with IEM's as they just sounded much better, however the planar headphones are just as good. To be fair I should have had a more powerful headphone amp. I will be saving up for the Arya's

The Sundara although known to have a slightly narrower soundstage were said to be much more detailed and deep which was something I preferred more and so I finally went with the Sundara. I must admit though that there's a great deal of R&D gone into Planartech in recent times which is pretty evident from the sound. There is a massive improvement over HifiMan's first gen planars like the HE400. The Sundaras are fairly easy to drive, even from a typical android(Wouldn't recommend it though). The Sundara achieves an unprecedented level of fidelity and boasts of unmatched rivalry ... I would recommend not to judge them immediately before the burn-in as it significantly flexes the driver and makes it much more capable of imparting vibrations into the diaphragm(post 80 hours of playback) after which the Sundara becomes much more Sundara. The recommended burn-in is around 150 hours.Speaking of color it is particularly neutral in the Mid range with comfortable Highs and fast, clean, thumpy Lows extended well below. It does justice to all frequencies, giving a near flat response. Leaving aside the 800 series, these can compete with HD600s IMO. In terms of comfort, I really vouched for IEMs over cans, but now I've realised that certain cans can be extremely comfortable even for extended periods of use(~3-4 Hours, the only bummer being the heat) all thanks to the enlarged contact surfaces of the pads, they significantly reduce pressure around your ears. I've come to realise that planars do have the potential to pave their way into the future as they tend to mimic the characteristics of electrostatics (which undoubtedly are the holy grail of sound production) under a budget. But again that's just my opinion.
I find the Hifiman Sundara to be a fantastic pair of headphones. They offer a neutral and balanced sound signature, with excellent clarity and detail across the frequency spectrum. The open-back design provides a spacious and airy soundstage. The mids are particularly well done, with good instrument separation and a natural tonality. The bass is tight and punchy, and the treble is smooth and extended without any harshness. The build quality is solid, with comfortable pads and a metal design that makes them easy to wear for long listening sessions. Tonally the headphones are very sweet sounding; melodious and somewhat on the brighter side but not harsh at all. Instrument separation is great. Design is awesome.. look and feel of a very premium headphone. Now if u compare with Senheiser 560s overall the sound quality is better but there is no night and day difference. 560s is more neutral in comparison sundara is marginally brighter. I liked both of them and since sundara is newer and a little better I am enjoying it a lot
