If you want a headphone with the most natural and realistic vocals you have ever heard, you simply won't find anything that comes close to the Susvara. The soundstage and the imaging with the vocals is just unbeatable. I want to mention the bass because I had read they were bass light before I purchased. It is true they are light in the sub-bass department but has been no issue for me because I use the RME ADI-2 which has a 7 band EQ with 20 programmable presets. For the Susvara, I just give them a 6 db bass shelf at 85hz and leave everything else natural. They are simply amazing and have all the bass you could want, even for listening to EDM. If I could attach a video here, I would show these things jumping to some EDM music in my hand. So, if you want to use them for all genres, get a simple 3 band EQ to add a bass shelf if your equipment doesn't have one built in. Now the other thing I would mention, is that amplifier choice is absolutely critical to the Susvara's performance. It probably is the only headphone to require its own amplifier, but if you give it the right pairing, you will be rewarded with sonic bliss you never thought possible. I have listened to the Susvara on some of my lesser amplifiers, like the SMSL SP400 and the Topping A90D and while it seems like there is enough power because they are being driven with loud enough volume, you are actually missing out on their true performance with these lesser Amps. With those Amps the sound quality was very similar to my HE1000V2. But, when put back on an Amp worthy of the Sus, they step up to a whole new performance category. As long as you don't cheap out on the rest of your equipment, I cannot recommend these enough! My chain is Marantz network streamer > RME ADI-2 DAC > Flux Lab Volot > Susvara.

Many audiophiles will amass a collection only to eventually get Susvara and its peers anyway, leading to wasted money even if they resell their other headphones. If you don’t need a wide variety (I don’t), it’s better to have one or two of the “summit” than a bunch of cheaper headphones made redundant. They are one of the Hifiman authorized dealers, and in my opinion the best one (I reached out to ALL of them). I ordered at noon and they were shipped same day, arriving shortly thereafter. Service was stellar, quite a bit better than most of the other dealers. The site uses the excellent and easy to use Shopify system, allowing for a swift and painless buying process with convenient follow up processing emails. Did I mention the service? Like I said, I spoke to every single Hifiman dealer with Susvara available, and Justin was the clear choice. He’s a well known member of the community and makes great amps too. This is my first purchase from HeadAmp but it won’t be my last. With value out of the way: why Susvara? Out of all its peers, Susvara is the only one with no disappointing sonic properties, and this is by far the most important thing. Another reviewer here said it better than I could. Unless you prefer the quirks of the others, why settle? Moreover Hifiman’s terrible quality control is, somehow, not as big an issue in this segment. Abyss 1266 and LCD-5 have had some significant QC issues as well. Focal’s support is not good and their QC has historically been shaky as well. Abyss has some ethical concerns. Susvara pairs the best sound with (sadly) few downsides compared to its peers. You will still need to weigh Hifiman’s QC, but with the bar so low at the summit, it is not as concerning as it would be on Arya. The only other issue I can think of is that they are difficult to power. To me this is the best non-HE 1 headphone decision one can make, and depending on who you ask, it might even be better.

Amazingly detailed beauties!

The only reason I left off one star is simply the price…Everyone seems to knock Hifiman about the quality of their headphone builds, well the Susvara I had was built perfectly, there was not a single thing wrong with it that I could find, the hinges never made any noise and were silky smooth. They are one of the most comfortable headphones I’ve worn, period. The earcups being a bit smaller than the Aryas, or HE1000’s, but personally I find that to be a good thing because they don’t feel so huge on your head. It’s got a bit of a smaller profile. The stock cables are hands down the worst cables I’ve seen, so plan on buying a new cable immediately! I don’t understand how you can make a $6000 headphone, and then skimp out on the cables. How did the cables even pass? Who said yes to them? Anyways the sound, once breaking in is just sublime. It’s a pretty neutral sound but not boring or without feeling. I’m a bass head so the bass was lacking to ME. That would be the only thing with the sound I would change, but if you choose to EQ or have an Ifi Pro Ican Signature amp, just click the bass boost on and man the sound fills up, even sound stage gets a bit larger! Idk what else I can say about this that EVERY Youtuber hasn’t already. If you’ve got the cash and want one of the best, it’s very hard to go wrong the the Susvara! Just make sure you got a good BEEFY amp to power those finicky beasts, but once you do just sit back, close your eyes and enjoy the flow!

Fantastic headphones....if your amplifier is up to the task!
11 July 2020

The Susvara is a wonderfully detailed, super fast, and resolving headphone. It’s position as one of the best TOTL headphones for detail retrieval is warranted. It has fast and articulate bass, that extends all the way down to 20hz without any roll off. So yes, you will get a nice sub bass rumble if it is in the track. The mids sound natural and neutral to my ears. They’re neither forward or withdrawn. The treble leans slightly bright. It is not harsh or offensive, but poorly mastered tracks will be laid bare without any smoothing over. If there is a flaw, it will be unabashedly exposed. But well recorded tracks will sound marvelous and every last detail will be heard. That means the detail retrieval of these headphones is a double-edged sword. It can be extremely rewarding for the right music, and ruthlessly exposing for poorly mastered music. You will get the truth whether good or bad.My only con for these is the extremely low sensitivity. If you decide to buy these, you need to make sure you have an amp that is up to the task. Don’t be fooled by the low impedance. Either have the right amp, get the right amp, or suffer the consequences of never hearing what these are capable of. These will scale higher than you think. Don’t believe me? Then ask a Bakoon.* Only 4 stars given due to the extreme power requirements.

Got the susvara to run on my Felix envy.Sounds incredible on tubes. Very musical, and detailed and just sounds more alive than on my moon 430. Sounds great on both amps (bass and impact on 430) but tubes just edge it. I haven't tried them with a speaker amp yet.Was able to purchase the susvara via a generous trade which was straightforward and no hassle.Great service from Audiobarn, always keep you informed.Looking forward to my next purchase.

Superb comfort, exceptional sound, improved dual 3.5mm connector
11 June 2022

I have been on a quest to find a headphone that offered superb comfort and exceptional sound. I had tried the Meze Elite and loved the build, but the sound didn't inspire me. I tried the Abyss Diana TC and loved the sound, but comfort seemed to be a miss for me. So I finally got the Susvara. And wow, it hit on every expectation I had for a high end headphone. I also had heard it came with a dual 2.5mm connector and they've changed them to 3.5mm, which was a nice improvement. I'm looking forward to years of enjoyment. I have no regrets. And a shout out to HeadAmp. Their customer service and support is top notch. I couldn't have gotten to my endgame headphone without them. Of course endgame only lasts for so long and I will be a returning customer.

The TOTL headphone without any flaws
28 April 2021

The Susvara from Hifiman is currently the best TOTL headphone. Tonally without any weaknesses on a technically very high level. Other TOTL headphones have at least one weaknesses. The Abyss 1266 TC lacks a bit of volume in the upper mids. A Utopia sounds narrow and a touch too metallic in the highs. The LCD-4 has a very recessed treble range. The SR-009 a bit too little bass and a boost around 1Khz.The Susvara is absolutely balanced from bass to treble. A dreamy very natural sounding tonality that comes closest to the live feel for me. Spatiality is fantastic with very good low end and separation that only a Utopia can match. The Susvara is a resolution monster. Spatiality is fantastic with very good low end and separation that only a Utopia can match. The Susvara is a resolution monster. I don't know of any other headphones besides the SR009 that present this much detail. And it does it all with effortless imaging and transients that are reproduced rocket fast. The bass range goes down ultra low and has a precision that I have not heard before. In addition, the Susvara punches in genres like Rock & Metal hammerhard when the recording requires it. This is exactly the quantity I've always wanted from an SR009. The Susvara beats the Stax in quantity easily. The mids and especially the voice reproduction are absolutely true and natural. The treble crystal clear without going into the sibilant. Here I miss even when switching from a SR009, which is considered the king of treble purely nothing. Same class, fantasticThe only downside to the Susvara is that it requires a very potent amplifier. But even with a GSX mini or V281, it plays better than any headphones I know. And even on my Shandling M8 at the highest gain setting, it's a lot of fun, with no major loss of bass. The warm tonality of the M8 fits like a glove in the interaction with the Susvara.

The best just as I heard
9 June 2023

I am pushing this Susvara with just a Topping l70 and it already out shines my Arya se.Compared with Arya se, it has significantly larger soundstage, which the most noticeable difference, more details and deeper base. While human sound sounds very similar to Arya se, Susvara sounds more spatial. For Arya se, it is more like you are listening music within a small room with the instruments and singer position a bit far from you. However, for susvara, it feels like you are seating a much larger room but the singer and instruments are closer to you and it is easier to tell where they are positioned.I believe the Susvara can reach another level with a much better AMP and I can't wait to try it with one!

The name Susvara comes from Hinduism and means "sweet voice". The Hifiman Susvara undoubtedly possesses an unforgettable sound and inspires immediately when you put it on. A good headphone amplifier is necessary for it to develop its true potential, but then it will satisfy even the highest audiophile demands. Stealth Magnet Technology The advanced magnetic technology (stealth magnets) used in the Susvara is acoustically very transparent and reduces unfavorable diffraction of sound waves, which can negatively affect the sound. The result is a harmonic and clear sound with an enormous amount of detail. In contrast to the magnetic structure of conventional magnetostat headphones, the special magnetic structure of Susvara allows the sound waves to pass through without significant obstacles. The loss of quality of the sound waves is mainly caused by the fact that the magnet obstructs the flow of the sound waves. This is avoided with the magnet technology of the Hifiman Susvara. The driver is only a millionth of a meter thick and is therefore in the nano range. As a result, it has a very low mass, which means that it can achieve extremely low distortion values while maintaining high dynamics. The driver and the magnet technology of the Hifiman Susvara work in harmony and provide the extremely remarkable sound quality.
