My cat has grown up on Hills Science Diet and will not even consider eating any of the normal brands those few times I haven't had his food available for a short period of time... he knows good quality... He has never had issues when I changed his diet within the 'Hills-range', e.g. when he went from kitten- to adult food or when I experimented with the 'hairball control' diet or even different diets for weight loss/management. However, being a rescue cat with some anxiety issues of unknown origin, and with one incident at the vet emergency room, when he didn't eat or litter for almost a full 24-hour period, followed by a diagnosis of potential urinary tract disease that would be caused by anxiety, I was recommended different solution, which would seemingly all ... MoreMy cat has grown up on Hills Science Diet and will not even consider eating any of the normal brands those few times I haven't had his food available for a short period of time... he knows good quality... While this diet seem to have a positive effect on my cat's anxiety and I haven't had further visits to the vet, my cat simply doesn't like the taste of this diet. He had a taste of the "HILLS PRESCRIPTION DIET Metabolic Weight Management Dry Cat Foodt" before this one, and these are the only two "Hills Diets", he does not like the taste of. I can't force him to eat it when he doesn't like it, so while I am emptying my current bag of food, I am mixing it with the "Adult Perfect Weight" diet, he prefers. However, I would be prefer to give my cat the diet that would cause him the least stress and the best health while he would enjoy the taste. He doesn't like wet food (he drinks lots and lots of water, so he doesn't need it), he doesn't like seafood of any sorts, so while he might be a bit particular, he also really enjoys what he does like; chicken is apparently his big thing. So I'm not sure why the two prescription diets taste poor to my cat... if others experience a taste issue, perhaps there will be new options for prescription diets in the future - and we'll be back!

My cat is a carb fiend who helps himself to any human food carelessly left on the kitchen counter, and was diagnosed by the vet as being well on his way to becoming a chonker when he was on his previous Hills diet. Additionally he has a lot of anxiety and is prone to forming urinary crystals. This Metabolic plus Urinary Stress is a good all round solution. He hasn't had a urinary episode while he's been on it and he's close to his ideal weight. Not sure how he feels about the taste as he will eat anything. It's expensive but worth it.

I've been using the Hills metabolic + urinary stress for the last 18 months for my (slightly big-boned and anxious, but very cute) 8yo feline. Combined with a somewhat stricter diet, he's managed to lose close to 20% of his bodyweight and is back in a healthy weight category. The poor little bugger is also prone to stress cystitis at the drop of a hat, and with this food + extra fluid intake (mixed in with his food) he's had only one episode during this 18 month time period (previously he was getting them every 3-6 months or so). It's not cheap, but so far I'm happy to continue forking out the money for the benefits I've seen. It's not a cure-all, but along with other measures, it appears to be a useful addition.

I have an overweight kitty named Orso with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease or FLUTD. After putting Orso on this food, I've noticed a substantial decrease in flare ups. Not only does his food help control the Crystals in his urine, but it also helps with his weight and anxiety. He was almost 21lbs when I started him on this food, he's now down to 18lbs Make sure to count the calories and ask your vet if you're not sure how many calories your kitty is supposed to be consuming a day! He's become a lot more social since I've had him on this food. He was terrified of anyone that wasn't me or my boyfriend and would stay in my bedroom a majority of the day. Now he'll wander downstairs and hang out with the rest of the household every now and again. Now he'll wander downstairs and hang out with the rest of the household every now and again. He won't really let anyone else touch him yet but this is a major improvement for such a nervous cat. I feel that this is because he's become physically comfortable so naturally he's become more confident to go out and join the crowd. The fact that this food also has a stress relief feature is just a bonus because he is a really anxious boy and stress can definitely cause flare ups. I've tried at least three other types of urinary support food and this is the only food that has worked for him consistantly. The Disorder my boy has requires him to be on medicated food for the rest of his life. I'm very confident in saying that this will be his forever food.
As a vet tech I know how the tiniest change can trigger a cat to become stressed and develop cystitis. Well I changed the location where my cats eat in the house and sure enough one of them became very upset and started urinating outside the litter box immediately. Fortunately, our Hills rep was visiting the clinic that week and I explained the situation. She recommended urinary plus stress and when I mentioned he is a little on the heavy side she said to buy this product which has all the components necessary to return my cat back to his happy normal self. I started feeding this diet immediately and within 24 hours my cat was no longer urinating outside the litter box and I could tell he wasn't as upset about the change in his routine. Purchased this product for my 9ish year old adopted British short hair "Bently", because he was found to have Struvite Crystals during his 1st yearly physical. It does the job and HE LOVES IT! It also helps us to manage his weight, and contains a STRESS management factor (probably the L-tryptophan) that has helped him to calmly transition to his new home! The brand manufactures another multi care variety that is almost identical LESS the Stress Factor. Upon further examination I was able to determine it does not contain the L-Tryptophan, or Dried Hydrolyzed Casein. Have no idea the difference the lack of these 2 ingredients would make in the alternate product, and am not interested in finding out when THIS product works so well for Bently and me!
This is an excellent product. My cat is very picky but he absolutely loves this food and most importantly it has significantly reduced his urinary problems, which is the main reason he’s on it. It also helped with losing a little weight. As for stress, he has always been an extremely nervous scared cat. This food is by no means equal to anxiety medication but he seems a little calmer (he still hides from people but now he will come out sooner than he used to). Overall it does what it says and he actually enjoys eating it. I highly recommend.
This diet has been successful at eliminating the recurrence of urinary crystals in my Norwegian Forest Cat. In addition it helps with his weight. He was almost 20 pounds. He is a big cat but over time he is now at a healthier 16.5 lbs. it also helps with his stress by keeping him calm. All of these keeping him healthy. He just had a positive vet exam and test results. I am very pleased with this product.
My kitty was well on this food (and the Hills wet stress formula food) for 4 years until there was as a shortage of it and it was no where to be found on 9 sites. He then flared badly on his cystitis and feline lower urinary tract disease and stopped peeing. It was touch and go for six months with kitty bleeding in his urine. Now that the dry stress metabolic formula has become available, he is getting better. I know the ingredients in the food. What I’m concerned with is that it treats my cat’s medical condition and definitely helps keep him well and that is most important of all. My kitty has lost 4 pounds on this food and loves it.
I had been purchasing this food for a couple of years, then it went out of stock everywhere. Subsequent to a bad hurricane after not being able to find it anywhere I had to switch my cat to the urinary C/D regular food (no multicare/stress). Either due to the stress of moving a couple of times after the hurricane (from our house to a place we sheltered, then from there back home) and the noise of the hurricane he started scratching himself and had scabs everywhere, all over his entire body. I finally found the Urinary C/D Multicare/stress (but not metabolic - still out of stock) and got him started on that. After almost a full bag, the majority of his scabs are gone and he is no longer scratching himself, but he has since gained quite a bit of weight. Now that the Urinary C/D multicare stress+metabolic weight is back in stock I compared the ingredients. For the most part they are exactly the same EXCEPT this product (metabolic weight) has no actual chicken in it, only chicken meal. It also has no whole grains, only wheat gluten and corn gluten meal. In addition to that it contains powdered cellulose (plant fiber) and dried tomato pomace which are both known allergens. I'm not sure why this food costs so much since there's no real protein in it to speak of. The nonmetabolic formula contains chicken, chicken fat, egg, hydrolyzed casein (milk) and whole grains. It does not contain wheat or corn gluten, cellulose, or tomato anything. I guess I will have to continue using the nonmetabolic one and just have him attempt to get more exercise around the house.
