My small cell lymphoma kitty was constantly underweight and wasn’t enticed by treats (even churu). You could see and feel his bones. Within a month of having this food, he’s finally at a good weight (maybe even a tad chonky). I’m so happy for him.BTW, I have another cat who is a little food obsessed. The cancer kitty not has a PortionPro feeder to keep the other cat out of the expensive, fattening food. Second cat was able to defeat SurePet feeders.

Our 15 year old cat has intestinal lymphoma. We were having a hard time finding a food that she would eat any normal amount of. We tried a bunch of foods in variety of textures, shapes, smells and sizes and she would either turn them down all together or eat only a few bites per meal. As malabsorption is common with her condition, this made it even more critical that we get calories into her in substantial quantities. Her weight was dropping and we were struggling to reverse the tide. This is the first food that she has eaten greedily since her diagnosis and she has been begging for extra meals of this kibble. It feels so good to see her eat an entire meal in one sitting. It’s too soon to tell long term effects, but for now, this food is the best thing we could have ... MoreOur 15 year old cat has intestinal lymphoma. My poor cat was recently diagnosed with cancer & her appetite is not good. I wanted a quality food that would entice her to eat at least something. This was it. It’s pricy but she likes it and thankfully is eating a little bit a couple times a day which makes me feel so much better than if she wasn’t eating at all. I feel reassured that at least she is getting some good nutrition from the little she is able to take in. My other cat, who doesn’t have cancer also wants to eat it. It certainly does have as it claims, enticing flavors cats like. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey!

Does it contain anything curative that actually requires vet authorization? Impossible to say. When you buy "oncology food," what you actually attempt to buy is hope. It's not the only thing he eats, but at 17+ and just over 5 pounds with multiple intestinal cancers for many years, he does eat it. Bought it because I felt like I was trying to do something, but who knows if it helps?
My little rescue old doggie was diagnosed with liver cancer three days after I adopted her and took her to my Vet for the free wellness exam. She was given 6 months to a year to live. I asked what I could do and Vet said just love her. I started ONC food, Denamarin and mushrooms. She is still alive and it has been a little over one year and she is going strong.
I bought this because my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. Originally the vet had me try Hills I/D. She ate a couple of cans then no longer wanted it so we decided to give this a try as it was also suppose to help increase her appetite. The first day she ate a small amount and then wouldn’t touch it after that. I have offered it to her multiple times and even tried adding unsalted chicken broth to soften it up to see if that would help and she still wouldn’t touch it. It could be that she just isn’t interested in this particular flavor because she did eat most of the canned variety.
My cat Jerry is on ONC prescription food prescribed by my vet. Jerry has Cancer and I have him on dry and cat. He needs to gain weight and on prescription medications. I was surprised when he tried it and he loves it. Usually prescription food my previous cats wouldn't eat it but I highly recommend it if your cat or dog is prescribed it. A bit expensive but my Jerry is gaining weight and loves eating both can and dry.
Several of my cats really love Hills ONC. So, it's become quite popular here.Unfortunately, the two cats who have Cancer don't seem particularly interested. One of my Cancer kitties is in remission and eats plenty of moist food, so I'm not worried about him. Meanwhile the other eats far less than she used to before Cancer. I know Cancer can adversely affect appetite, so I'm starting to stimulate her appetite with Mirataz.
At the beginning of my dog's chemo treatments he ate Hill's Prescription wet and dry with interest and enthusiasm. However, after he had finished his first 9 cans, he would no longer eat the canned food so I tried just the kibble. He like this for about 3lbs of the 6 lb bag then he stopped eating that too. I am disappointed that a company that has made it their mission to design diets for certain illnesses and issues, does not offer more than one flavor for dogs going through chemo. The dogs, like people, have a change in appetite as well as taste sensibility. I now have to make food for him to try and find the food he will eat and how to make it so he will eat it. I have no idea if i am giving him all the nutritional qualities he needs; I am doing my best to be ... MoreAt the beginning of my dog's chemo treatments he ate Hill's Prescription wet and dry with interest and enthusiasm. I have no idea if i am giving him all the nutritional qualities he needs; I am doing my best to be sure there are vitamins, good fats, and proper % of protein/fat/fiber/etc, but I am guessing based on what info I can glean from different sources. In addition to all this, my insurance would cover the cost of Hill's but it won't cover the cost of making high quality homemade food which for some people makes doing what I am doing, prohibitive. Chewy.com has been great in customer service but there is nothing they can do if there isn't product there to replace the Hill's.
