I adopted two kittens last year, and the shelter recommended Hill’s Science Diet Kitten dry food. Kitten food is more calorically dense than food for adult cats, and it’s recommended you feed your cats kitten-specific food for the first year of their lives. This food held my two kittens in good stead (and my adult cats seemed to like it, too, lol), and they both have grown up into healthy and healthily-sized adult cats.

To be clear, I am reviewing the Science Diet dry cat food for adults, aged between 1 and 6 years.I got my cat from the local animal shelter about 7 months ago and she is now about 2 years old. She has become a treasured pet. The Hills Science Diet company provided food to my local shelter as to many others: a classic example of doing well by doing good. I received a complimentary bag when I adopted my cat.I did some serious research on cat food and learned more about it than perhaps I care to know. Informed views vary, as with virtually any subject, on the merits of dry versus wet cat food, on the qualities of different brands, and on cost.On dry versus wet -- I feed my cat predominantly wet food consistently with most but not all recommendations. But she gets at least some dry food daily and I feed dry food when I am going to be out of the house for most of the day, as it can be eaten at the cat's own pace. Make sure the cat has plenty of water available.Hills Science Diet is a long time manufacturer of pet food with an established reputation. This dry food for adult indoor cats is a high quality product which has been advertised as suitable for weight control, with proteins and antioxidants. The product is nutritionally complete and balanced in accordance with established and recognized standards (AFASCO). With some wishful thinking, perhaps, I have designated my cat as "indoor" although she looks yearningly outside. She had this food at the shelter and after some experiementing I have settled on it as her indoor cat food. She always eats it readily, both when I feed it as her daily food and when I feed it as a supplement to her wet food, and leaves nothing left over. The food comes in small pellets, sometimes triangular but more recently round in what I think is an improved version. I am confident in and trust this product and the cat likes it. It has received high reviews from impartial and capable professional reviewers. I have relied upon several detailed reviews in addition to my own experience with the product. The product is not the most inexpensive, but it is worth it. It is not as easy to find as supermarket brands but is reasonably accessible. All told, an excellent dry food for an indoor cat. I am happy with it, the cat is happy with it, and I enjoyed learning about it.

When we got our Bengal kitten at 6 weeks of age, she came with a couple cans of some 'designer' specialty cat food. I don't remember the brand, but it was something I've never found at any store anywhere. But, she absolutely refused to eat it. Now, Bengals are kinda known to be picky. She tried several times, but would gag and puke it back out. So, she ate nothing for about 3 days. My previous street-found cat ate Science Diet cat food and she was with us for 16 years, so, in desperation, I bought a couple cans of this. Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE how she at it all like she was starving (she was) and was looking for more. Now, over 7 years later, she still gets this food at mealtimes and gets the Adult 7+ freely the rest of the time. Now, over 7 years later, she still gets this food at mealtimes and gets the Adult 7+ freely the rest of the time. She's got beautiful fur, clear eyes, not a bit of fat on her, muscular, and still very active and playful. I suspect she's gonna be around for a long time, thanks to the superior nutrition of this food.
It's a good product and I've been using it for my kittens. The one I had was running low. I've ordered it from pet circle as it was 1-2 dollar cheaper and the eta was 3-5 May. Guess what, today is the 11th of May and I still haven't received it. I had to get another bag from an offline shop. The exact same thing happened with the litter I ordered from pet circle. Not worth ordering from pet circle.
I use this, and alternate it with the Science Diet Indoor Kitten dry food, as a treat for my kittens. They start their day with a small snack of this dry food (about 15 pellets, not a meal) as breakfast, and their main meals at lunch and dinner time is the Science Diet Kitten wet food. The pellets are a good size to pop a few into puzzle toys, and the kittens love it, so I have also found it useful as a training treat for them. I instantly have their attention when I say treats, and am holding 4 or 5 pellets for training.. they come running when they hear me say it.
My cats with GI lymphoma and kidney disease would stop eating their RX diets as well as adult dry diets. This is a great alternative to rotate into their menu, as it's calorie dense, highly palatable, and has very small kibble size. I have multiple that swallow dry food whole without chewing, and the size of SD Kitten dry digests well with no regurgitation after they bold down whole pieces of kibble. It's also easy to soak, absorbs water well, and can make puree to add meds to or just to increase their water intake by floating food in water. Somehow, even my cat sensitive to poultry based foods tolerates this particular chicken based Science Diet food well, with no GI side effects. So glad it is available in very large bags, as I feed it to shelter fosters and my own crew as needed.
Aftering fostering two litters of kittens this past spring, I became the proud owner of the runts from both litters. As an avid supporter of Hills Science Diet, it was inevitable that they would eventually be introduced to the kitten kibble. Not only was there no hesitation on consumption from the beginning, but they are now larger than my small dogs and as playful as ever! I would highly recommend Hills Science Diet to anyone looking to improve, or continue well balanced nutrition for their animals!
Our rescue kitten loves it! She’s almost a year old now and transitioning to Hill’s hairball formula, and seems to love that one even more. Her coat is so healthy and shiny, which is no surprise. I had two cats who passed nearly 20 years ago, and both lived very long, healthy and happy lives, and they too had beautifully shiny coats. I’ve researched many different foods with our new kitty, but figured we’d go with what worked great for us before. I should mention though, that we also feed her canned Tiki Cat because of the high quality ingredients.
My senior cat, age 15, was experiencing inexplicable weight loss over a period of months. Lab work was within normal ranges. He refused many different brands of food and had not eaten dry food for years. As a last resort, my vet recommended Hill's Chicken and Brown Rice Kitten kibble. I was beyond thrilled when my cat started eating it the moment I filled his bowl. His water intake increased to a healthy level, as well. He has gained over two pounds, is more robust, energetic, plays with his toys again, and seems much happier and vital. I am so grateful this product turned his health around. I will give it to him as long as possible.
