My watering can rusted out in less than 2 years. I always emptied it after use and it was stored on a wooden bench in my garden shed. Looks like the base was made from inferior quality metal.I thought buying a metal one would be a long term product. Very disappointing

I bought 3 of these Holman watering cans at Bunning stores in recent years. I bought the first one because I was not aware of their poor quality. I bought the second one because I thought I had a bad run with the first one, and I bought the third one because I am a moron and should have known better! Each of my three Holman cans rusted away and became useless within 18 months or so of the purchase. I still have a Tomlin galvanised watering can (bought it perhaps 20 years ago), there is no sign of any rust on it. I cannot recommend a Holman galvanised 9 L watering cans manufactured in the late 2010s, early 2020s.

This watering can is not durable at all. I use it everyday and I've gone through 5 in the last 3 years. The handle came loose on one and the joint at the spout starting leaking on the other 3 and the bottom rusted through on the third one.I don't mind paying a bit more for a better quality product. It's a waste of money and energy buying something that's not going to last. The other option is buying a watering can made on Europe. I'd rather buy local but the product needs to last a little longer

Not “durable and robust” in the slightest

This is my second time buying this watering can. Fool me once.. when it started leaking, I gave benefit of the doubt and bought another. Fool me twice.. the second lasted even less time before leaking and is now completely rusted at the base inside. Spent the extra money, compared to a plastic watering can thinking it’d be longer lasting and better for the environment. Far from it. Will not be buying again!

Poor riveting on the handle
20 March 2022

The can is OK (I have a green one in the same style), but when you pick it up, make sure it is not above your feet. One year after purchase, with the can still in excellent condition, I picked it up empty one morning and the handle came off in my hand, with the rest of the can crashing onto the ground. Closer inspection revealed that the handle had been attached with pop rivets, with very inadequate flanging. If the handle comes off when full you could have almost 10kg falling onto your foot! I reported this to Holman, who kindly offered me a new watering can, but with no new warranty. Does not display much confidence in their product! There was also a requirement that the old one be destroyed, which I find wastefuI as it can easily be repaired with proper rivets. Rubbish
30 March 2024

You'd find stronger metal in the foil dish of a meat pie. The rivets are cheap and flimsy and come apart after a few uses. The front of the can leaks, so the water goes in exactly the opposite direction of where the watering can is pointed. Don't waste your money. A watering can has one job, and this sucks at every part of it.

Grabbed this watering can after getting sick of plastic ones that fatigue and crack from sun and weather. It leaks! What is the last thing you want your watering can to do? Can't believe how many other people have had the same issue. Leaks from the base of the spout where it meets the can.

Usual Bunnings quality we have to now accept…
29 September 2024

Another waste of resources. Hasn't lasted a year from manufacturing date and the handle rivets sheared, dropping entire can on its side, which is now as useful as the broken plastic one this replaced. When will Bunnings stop feeding us garbage? Give an option of something that “may” last a year rather than churn and burn.

Worst Watering Can. Waste of money.
17 July 2023

I thought a galvanised watering can would be somewhat rust proof. Within a few uses it started to rust out... I kept using it and within about a year the rust ate through and past the base of the can so it now leaks out. The rust transferred to your soil with each water will eventually lower your soil pH to levels potentially harmful to plants, evident in younger leaves yellowing in plants like citrus. Stick with a plastic watering can so you don't have to deal with secondary problems this watering can creates. The spout section also fails over time (at the thread), so the head doesn't even stay on anymore without some force to retrofit it. Would not recommend. Would not buy again. Should have taken it in for an exchange much earlier.

Worst watering can, especially galvanised.
31 October 2023

Bought one of this after my plastic one split. The ceiling rose rusted at the screw portion. Broke off after 18 months and also the bottom start to leak. Internally covered in rust. Water use comes mainly from water collected from hot-shower tap before hot water emerge. Chuck it in the bin. UselessAlso bought a second plastic one at the same time, still going strong, better buy than the metal one.
