I previous boat I had a Humminbird and it spoiled me. I bought a different boat and it came with a competitor's fish finder/GPS. It didn't work correctly the start. Two one hour sessions on hold, and no resolution, and I boxed it up, sent it back to the manufacturer, and went out and bought a Humminbird. It works perfectly.

Excellent unit, especially for the price. I have been fishing over 30 years and if you know how to use a fishfinder this won't let you down. Very sensitive, I can see my jig going up and down on the screen.This unit has no gps, no speed, and no down imaging or side imaging. Just a basic fishfinder function, which is all I need.

I have owned a number of humminbird sonars, and I honestly don't understand the reviews saying it's complicated. It offers two menu options, one that's in depth, and a very basic one for those who just want to be able to turn it on and fish without tweeking many settings.If you're using this as an ice unit or stand alone portable, the screen can get washed out in direct sun, more so if you're keeping the screen brightness down to conserve battery (recommend a lithium battery upgrade or wiring sla's in series). I did not get the GPS or Speed module but this unit is by far the best I've owned for the money. I love the large screen and the colors make it easy to distinguish the bottom and structure. I was even able to pick out a sunken craft from the resolution. First trip out while waiting for the fish to bite, I had figured out the basic functions and am now delving into the fine tunings. This is a great unit and coupled with my AquaView 5 I can treasure hunt. :-)
For the guy that says it don't show the speed. I don't know what you are doing wrong in the set up but it does have the speed. All gps show speed. It does work well but if I had it to do again I would get the one with side imaging and down image. After checking these out further of course after I already bought this one the one with down imaging shows a really detailed pic of what's actually under the water. Like a downed tree it shows it very clearly. The go's and the speed work great. Shows the whole lake I fish and shows exactly where I've been with a Ted line. You can even drop a pin so you can come back to the exact spot
The owners manual contains information about all the different models with many options my unit does not have. Therefore it seems ambiguous %26 difficult to get the functions I need. It's not user friendly for those who fish rather than play computer games or live on their smart phones.
I've owner 6 or 8 Humminbird sounders over the years. They have all been excellent and the Humminbird service and support folks are the best in the business. BUT! This unit is not very good. Extremely difficult to see in sunlight, virtually impossible with polarized sun glasses, very small graphics, difficult to setup and a fixed, non-swiveling base.
The unit is great when you can get it to turn on. I have bought one, exchanged it for a new one and it has the same problem. The power cord has to be wiggled sometimes just to get it to turn on. Lowrance has a much better plug. I am disappointed. Everything else works great once it's on.
We just got this installed on our boat and used it for the first time. The first day on the boat it did great and seemed to be reading the depth pretty well. The 2nd and 3rd days brought problems with the unit turning off. We'd have to jiggle the wires on the back and it would turn back on for a few minutes before shutting down again. It became aggravating. We bought it because of the reviews, I'm not sure if we have a bad unit? The wiring on the boat is new. No other issues with electronics.
I own one already for years which is on our 18 foot smoker craft an helix 10 great success catching 8 lb. lakers.My wife and I just bought to 2 Pelican fishing kayaks that is the reason why we bought the humminbirdHelix 5 for each kayak. We fish at Lake Bernard.
