My first night in the tent was great.But I think you should have a bit thicker material in the inner tent. At least windproof.I set it up after dark and it took on the nerves to find a way for the guylines on the top of the inner tent through the small and narrow loops in the top of outer tent.

I purchased this net tent because I have a Black Diamond Mega Mid and wanted a lightweight and durable net tent as the inside. I looked for the last year at a bunch of brands, bearpaw, yama, MLD, you name it. Ā½ insert is well made, easy to setup, with sufficient space for 1 person. I have both the Ā½ and full inserts and thus prepared for ācamping guestsā be it a family member or the dog.As always, HMG stuff is high quality, nicely designed and works well as a system with other HMG gear.100% satisfied and happy to support this high end, American made, ultra-light, camping gear provider.

Lightweight and spacious. The half insert turns the Ultamid 2 into a palace for 1. The DCF tub floor is tough and gives me peace of mind when pitching on rocky terrain. For the price it would have been nice to have a gear net in the top for your headlamp or a pocket on the side for your phone. Quality construction and have no regrets.
I plan to modify this insert to allow hanging items such as a headlamp from its interior, by adding a mitten hook to the underside of its roof. Probably somewhat overpriced. Otherwise very pleased with it- easy to repack into its sack, great build quality, roomy. I'm happy with the easy availability of this as a standard stock item and with the reliable, rapid shipping from HMG.
Just finished a five night solo hike, and the Half Insert itself is as good as expected, deserving 5 star rating. Product quality and ease of use is the reason for this.However I feel the Half Insert is a bit short. Being 192 cm tall, I find myself touching the short walls at either the foot end or the head end. This can cause mosquito bites in the head or the sleeping bag becomes moist at the foot end due to condensation when relevant. Iām looking into modifying the inner tent so that it can be attached to the outer tent by elastic cords. This to extend the short walls further out towards the Ultamid outer tent about a third up on the half insert to the tie-outs area on the Ultamid.Until Iāve solved the length issue, itās 4 stars from me.

The ripstop fabric/spreader(?) at the top of the tent seems very unnecessary and heavy/bulky. A simple malaria style top would have been better and easier to attach. My Ultimid was from the first batches and did not have loops in the apex. The insert did not come with a cup to put under the pole or even instructions of any sort to have a beer, drink, read and set up in the yard. I had to fabricate a trekking pole attachment system. I am not picky, so it will work. Reached out to customer service and they suggested I send in my mid to have loops put on it. Sounds like a time consuming pain to me. Also there is no mid wall attachment loop, seems like a no brainer since there is a ring on the mid for the full insert and putting it on provides the option for windy conditions. Just my 2 cents. I have been a hammock guy for years. I had some backup tents but rarely used them. Once I saw the Hyperlite UltraMid is was very interested. I saw many video reviews, read all I could on the tent and insert and pulled the trigger. I am stoked that I can sit in a backpacking chair in the tent and cook under shelter. I did purchase the carbon tent pole because I bike pack, and paddle in addition to hiking. Everything I researched was true. It is very light weight, simple to set-up, I love the half insert with protection from bugs. I added a Tyvek floor on the other side to finish it out. I handles wind, rain and cold. I haven't had a condensation issue.
Have used the UltaMid Half Insert with my UltaMid in pleasant weather with mosquitoes. The insert is spacious for a "single-person". I think a close couple of smaller people could be comfortable in a single half insert. I'm impressed with the quality of construction and materials.
Disliked: made in Mexico, the reason I went with your company was because I want products made in the USA. Outsourcing jobs to countries with lower wages to maximize profit is a disgraceful business practice.If you donāt have enough labour who can stitch and fabricate, go into the local community, train up veterans, your customers go with you for a reason and will wait for your products whilst you train up the next generation.
