I had known about IB base layers for years, but only recently started purchased them. I didn't know what I was missing all these years. The first one I bought was on sale, and I bought the only size and colour (grey) which were on sale; it was a size bigger than I normally take, and it had the v neck, which I am not so keen on. Still, I have been wearing it a lot. But then I took the plunge and bought the black, scoop neck in my own size, at full price. Expensive, yes, but worth it! The fit is perfect, the scoop neck is both practical and flattering, and it is so comfortable and warm. I have hardly taken it off. I have even slept in it! It doesn't smell even after several days of wear. It can be worn as a base layer (or even with a vest under), and can equally be worn on its own, for any occasion. (My only criticism is the stitched logo on the sleeve.) I can imagine layering two of them if it was really cold. I will certainly be buying more. Sadly, the only colours currently available in this style (scoop neck) are black, navy and grey. I am not at all tempted by the patterned versions! Thank you, IB, for making this. The design has changed! Seams are now visibly overlocked instead of being properly sewn, which relegates it to sportswear only, instead of a go-anywhere winter staple; the overlocking also wears incredibly quickly. This style is/was IB's only pure merino top with a scoop or sweetheart neckline - please, please return to a properly finished garment, in a wide range of colours.

I wear this baselayer daily through all activities. It keeps me warm when it's chilly, but remains breathable and comfortable when I'm sitting in the warm direct sun. I love the wide neck because it won't peek out from the collar of any of my shirts or sweaters. And I love that it's 100% Merino wool and somehow softer than my old merino/polyester blend baselayers.
