This is the best photographic paper. The tonal range, texture and weight of the paper is beautiful. I recommend this paper to any photographer and give a 5 star rating. The magic of film photography, and something that digital photography can never compete with, is the spectacle of turning the light on in the darkroom and seeing for the first time a 16x20 inch silver halide fibre based print shine in the fixing tray...truly remarkable.

I've used Ilford MG FB for years and have compared it to many other (perhaps all) papers. I keep coming back to MGFB. I use the 5x7 for proofs from 35mm negs then print the keepers on a large size paper. Usually use #2 to see the full range of tones in the negative. Sometimes used for contacts from 4x5.

This is possibly the best general purpose multigrade photographic paper ever made and my latest purchase of 250 sheet boxes from Adorama came at a price that other sellers could not match. Thank you Adorama. There is a hard-to-solve problem in shipping damage for this product. A 250 sheet box of photographic paper is heavy and very dense for its volume. This characteristic overwhelms the light weight air-filled packing used and the photographic paper boxes move about and become split while riding within an intact outer carton. Opening the shipment under photographic safe-light and repackaging the photographic paper into light proof boxes is a sensible precaution if damage is suspected.I will keep shopping with Adorama

Whenever I can I buy Ilford products, because they love the analog photographer. MY money for paper, film, fixer and developer goes to them and you should consider that too -This FB Classic is a really nice paper. I prefer the glossy finish - it takes a selenium tone well and is easy to wash.
I purchased this photo paper for a special topics class where we make photograms. I wanted something with a finish that would make contrast look like thick velvet. After gram-ing, as my professor called it, a bunch of flowers, branches, and leaves, I developed (which takes a minute or two with fiber paper, so be patient) and washed the images and set them out to dry. After a couple of days I went back and the colors were remarkable. The blacks were rich and the whites were crisp. THIS IS FIBER PAPER SO IT IS GOING TO CURL. I simply left my images in a book to press them for a couple days and they were flat again, heat presses always work too, but be carful not to over process your work! Overall great product with a beautiful finish, highly recommend for the consumer ... MoreI purchased this photo paper for a special topics class where we make photograms. I made a lot of prints, all of which looked great while wet and in the wash. Once they dried, they became flat and lost the deep black and bright white. During the same darkroom session, I used Ilford's fiber 11x14 glossy, and got sensational results with a full range of tones. Same printer (me), same darkroom conditions and expertise. The only difference was the paper. Next time, I'll wait until the glossy 5x7 is available. It's not awful, but there are better results to be had with glossy. I'd never purchase this kind again, even if it were the only one available. I'd cut down larger sizes of glossy.
After fifty years of printing this is my sole paper. If Agfa Brovira was still around, I'd likely use that. As I prefer neutral tones, there isn't anything else another paper can do for me that Multigrade can't, and while there are still some great papers available today the quality and price of Ilford is unbeatable.
Nine times out of ten I prefer to work with matte papers. However, not for darkroom. Bought this because it had great reviews from others and I generally prefer matte surfaces. I've only printed with it a few times so far but it doesn't produce sharp detail and dries extremely dull. For darkroom printing I'd stick to glossy. Might be cool for photograms or printing some still life negatives but just stick to glossy.
I am new to darkroom printing so I can not compare this paper to much else, but I would consider it to be the standard that all other paper should be compared to. It has excellent detail in the final print and even dries relatively flat. I highly recommend it
This is probably the best paper you can easily obtain now, which is great. I use this stuff a lot, but it is expensive. I do prefer rc paper for the cost, but fiber just feels better in your hands. The results, in my opinion, aren’t any better than modern and current rc paper, but it is more traditional.Be ware of wash times, and use a hypo wash to shorten washing . Not water usage friendly, so be aware of environmental impact long washing can do. Also make sure you flatten these prints after drying, as this paper does curl a lot.
