I have installed 3 systems in the past few months, a 400 x 400, 600 x 600 and a 300 x 1200.These are very expensive systems so, you would think they could provide a basic cardboard cut out template. They do but only with the 400 x 400. All others you need to make your own.The panel's are nice and thin, but the screws on the back of the panel means depth is greater than 10mm plasterboard. If you strike a ceiling joists, then your will need to check that out. It its in the same position as a spring mount you will need to replace this. There is not advice on how to do this to ensure you don't damage the panel. The spring mounts are extremely strong, more than they need to be. There is not advice on how to do this to ensure you don't damage the panel. The spring mounts are extremely strong, more than they need to be. So, when your trying to install any size larger than 400 x 400, you have two battle with a min of 6 spring clamps with no method or recommendation in being able to hold them open when fitting the panel. If you need to remove the panel to adjust your cut, then be away that you only get a couple of go's before being at risk that the spring clips will pull the plasterboard out. The 1200 light took 3 people on ladders to manage the clips in order to install it.,Today I installed another 400 x 400 panel. I struck 3 joist and 2 infills. It looks 1.5hrs to prepare the opening. And if you veiling is not 100% dead level then be prepared to run a cap filler around the light edges. The 400 x 400 panel has a fixed cable to the solar panel, so it will need to be installed first then run the cable to the light. All panels above have a thick figure 8 cable with a connector. You need to factor this in when running the cables and how it will exit through the roof.If you're paying somebody to do the install, then you could be up for several hours of labour on top of the purchase price. I have had genuine top of the range solar tubes installed at $900 each. there wouldn't be much difference in total cost if you had the option between the two systems.

The Illume skylights are great. Our bedroom was dark because of a lovely tree near the window, which we do not want to cut down. The Illume skylight has completely lighted the room, giving it a light and airy feel. There is no cutting into the roof, so no leaks and no heat. The ceiling inside is cut so the light fits flush.I think they're better than traditional skylights and the cost is way way less. We're getting more of these.Just to let you know that the light they produce is a cool light.

Installed this in our hallway to brighten it up. Works as described, dimming as the day starts/ends. Even on heavy cloudy days it lights up. Super easy installation (plug n play) plus looks amazing with its flush mount fitting.

We had a bit of a dark spot at our downstairs bathroom basins. In the ceiling above there were a/c ducting which prevented a 'normal' skylight tube from being installed. After installing this light I am sometimes still looking to turn off the light after washing my hands as it is, not surprisingly, like a light. The light intensity changes marginally as clouds pass over but keeps a surprising amount of light late into the afternoon. The solar panel was easy to install and the sky-light itself is thin and only the thickness of the plaster. One thing to look out for was although the light fits below the beam, if the beam is in the way of the clips they may need to be moved. I moved mine to the ends, using the already installed screws and the panel still fit snug. One ... MoreWe had a bit of a dark spot at our downstairs bathroom basins. I moved mine to the ends, using the already installed screws and the panel still fit snug. One benefit is that it doesn't transmit any heat as a traditional skylight can. the cable supplied is also long so you may be able to install in the roof of a second storey house and use downstairs, depending on the available cable paths. I would buy again.
Highly recommended. Brought huge amounts of light to a once dark corridor in the centre of our 1920’s built home with 3 meter ceilings. The output of the light varies from very low in the very early morning to late afternoon / sunset / night. Midday output to extremely bright. Choice of LED colour temp or clip on filter would be an improvement.
This is the second unit I have installed after the performance of the first.
We special ordered the 280mm one after the 270mm was just a smidge too small to fill the current hole we already had. It arrived and came in just brown cardboard box which was fine but although the paperwork with it said 280mm the actual skylight was 270mm. So if you want to pay extra, wait longer and end up with the exact same product as the 270mm then go right ahead but instead we returned it and bought the 300mm and cut a bigger hole.
We purchased the 300x1200 flush mount, after struggling for years with lights constantly on in our kitchen and family area being in the centre of the house. I installed myself and I am not a tradie, I admit cutting a 1200 hole in the ceiling took a bit of careful planning, but once I put it up in the hole it looked like a professional job. Tip for easy installation, cable ties make it a lot easier to hold the clips up before you push the light into the ceiling. We have tiles, took a bit of fiddling round to get tiles back in place but brackets are good, just plan your location before you get up on the roof. But we were blown away by the light it puts out, made an incredible difference in our house. Highly recommend, wish we did it years ago!!
Very happy with the purchase. The skylight brings so much light in my kitchen area. As soon as light is hitting the solar panel it’s giving me light inside. When the sun fully hits the panel it’s almost if i left the light on in the kitchen. Can’t say anything about the install as we had an electrician do it.
Easy to install and very bright. Snaps into a plasterboard ceiling easily. No need to cut hole in roof sheets. Used existing screws that secured colorbond roof to mount solar panel brackets. Don't forget to install the inline voltage regulator. Plugs allow you to do it (poor design not idiot proof). I would love it if they made a slighly smaller version that dropped into a standard 600mm access hole. I now have to find another spot to put my roof space access hole.
