I was replacing my 7 year old 1/2 HP Insinkerator unit. It would get clogged every week and I wore out my plunger. I did 3 weeks of research. Spoke to every home remodeling guy and plumber. Price was not a concern. For all those who say "it's too loud" they simply have ZERO idea what they are talking about. This thing is the OPPOSITE of loud. It is FAR lass noisy than my 1/2 HP unit I replaced. Grinds everything - including peach pits and chicken bones. Buy this unit and be happy.

Like many other reviewers, I think everything about this unit is really excellent, until we get to the rubber baffle in the drain. I understand what they were going for. In order for this thing to run whisper quiet, you have to block the sound of the blades spinning and chewing. They do that by restricting the flow of water so that the water can block the sound. The problem with this is that your sink doesn't want to drain. And you either have to grab a tool, or use your hand, to force things through the baffle into the disposer. Doing so raises a couple of issues: You get your hand yucky, you risk injury, or you risk damage to a tool. Yes, you could switch off the disposal, shove everything in, and then turn it on, but that defeats the purpose of a continuous feed ... MoreLike many other reviewers, I think everything about this unit is really excellent, until we get to the rubber baffle in the drain. It runs a little louder, but at least my sink doesn't back up with icky water anymore. As for actual performance, it's very good. I've fed it raw chicken, celery, onion skins, even avocado pits. Nothing seems to faze it, though the avocado pits do take a while to finally grind away. Mounting was straightforward, especially if you've done a few of these, which I have.

I spent tons of time researching garbage disposals for my kitchen renovation. I finally selected the Evolution Excel XL-4 based on the reviews and functions of the unit. I purchased the unit in Feb 2022 and it failed in March 2024. Overall it was very quiet and did a great job of grinding the food while it lasted. The replacement model sent by insiknerator is different and cheaply made. I will not waste my money on another Insinkerator product. BEWARE

Family uses the garbage extensively. When the previous InSinkErator all of a sudden locked tight I thought that something had jammed in the blade. Quiet, efficient, easy. I’ve owned several homes and this is my only disposal review. I never had one worth commenting on. I spent more $ than I thought I should and I don’t regret spending it. The unit is heavy and large but fit in same place as 1/3 HP unit. It is surprisingly attractive with the metal finish. I signed off from any plumbing projects. Read instructions and decided to give it a try. One hour later the old was out and this beast was in. First wife comment, “What makes it so quiet?” People have complained that it doesn’t drain well and the rubber guard must be “burped”. True, but, it has two vents that work better when rubber sink guard is near the top lip of the sink drain, not pushed to the bottom. Solved! This thing eats everything and is my second ... MoreQuiet, efficient, easy. I’ve owned several homes and this is my only disposal review. I never had one worth commenting on. This disposal is not only super quiet, but very powerful !!! I recently upgraded our kitchen sink to a large single bowl sink. So figured might as well upgrade the disposal as well. Best purchase we have done in awhile. With the Insinkerator air switch its a win !!!If I had one thing to say negative about this disposal ( some people may agree or not ) is its scary quiet !!! It's a love hate thing. Example : my wife had just finished doing the dishes. I had gone to the sink a moment later to empty a glass & found the disposal was still on. A safety hazard ??? So now we both literally have to look into the disposal after each use to verify its off.My only suggestion is possibly adding a light indicating its on or if you use a air switch like us it lights up when ... MoreThis disposal is not only super quiet, but very powerful !!! I have just replaced a 1/3 Insinkerator Badger with this top-of-the-line model. I have always been told that this is the best brand made. While I just installed it, the first time I test ran the disposal, I was floored. It is quiet, far quieter than our prior disposal. You cannot hear the motor at all, you only hear the moving parts in the sink. Install was easy, you will NEED plumber's putty as there is no sink seal included. Plumbers recommend putty for this seal anyway as it creates a better seal. This disposal is quite a bit larger than our old Badger model, most likely for insulation and a larger, more powerful motor. This means you have to make sure it will fit under your sink as well as your ability to route all the plumbing properly. My only complaint is ... MoreI have just replaced a 1/3 Insinkerator Badger with this top-of-the-line model. The disposal was supposed to have a free power connector added, but the system refused to allow me to add it to the order and select any delivery method. I have used the previous device's power cord since it's the same brand. In summation, great product, easy-ish install, and super quiet. Also, it was heavy, very heavy, but the easy attachment of the disposal to the sink connection made that a minimal issue.
Best Buy’s totaltech handled the install, and the product is just not good for what you’re paying.First off, there are no screws to secure the sink drain to the insinkerator; there’s only a small clamp which at best will make a poor seal to the drain pipe.Second, every review calling this machine quiet is A LIE. I don’t know what they were paid to lie to your face. It is SO LOUD with water going or actual food inside of it being ground up. It’s only moderately quiet when empty and no water is running (but that’s not why/how we use an insinkerstor….)Third, part of why it’s so loud is because it didn’t come with a VERY STANDARD rubber grommet that controls what falls from the hole in your sink down into the blades of the insinkerstor, which means every single ... MoreBest Buy’s totaltech handled the install, and the product is just not good for what you’re paying.First off, there are no screws to secure the sink drain to the insinkerator; there’s only a small clamp which at best will make a poor seal to the drain pipe.Second, every review calling this machine quiet is A LIE. The hole is big enough you could potentially lose entire plastic bottles. What’s worse is that without the rubber grommet, water and food SPLATTER EVERYWHERE when the machine is on, because there’s nothing from stopping it spraying back up and out, and it contributes to why this machine is so loud.Absolutely floored, honestly, that Insinkerator made such an oversight at this price point. You’re going to pay $500 for this after tax, you’re going to pay another $100 for installation. You should be getting a perfect machine, a perfect installation from Best Buy, and it should make little to no noise, never splatter, and do its job.So far, I can’t really say that we’ve received any of that for our money’s worth, and I’m really bummed. Definitely buy a different machine; don’t be like me and think “this one is expensive and looks nice, so surely it is the best.” It is not.
We had our contractor install an InSinkErator PRO750-4 which came with a 1-year warranty. It started making weird loud noises after 6 months. InSinkErator has refused to honor the warranty. They made the contractor go through multiple hoops, send pictures of the unit, video of the sound, made him go back to verify a number of points related to the installation, told him they would send a tech to inspect it, then ask me the customer to contact them directly. When I contacted them they claimed they didn't have the information, which was a lie, the contractor had sent it to them, and they magically found it after I insisted they had it. This is the second Evolution Incinerator Excel 1 HP Garbage Disposal that we have owned. The first was purchased and installed in 2009 and was still going strong, but we had a kitchen remodel and decided while we were replacing everything, we would replace this too. We still have the old one and hope to donate it to a friend. The only thing that was wrong is that there is a little silver square metal cover that covers the access to the wires that was missing on the bottom of the new one. We had the plumbers take it off the old one and put it on the new one. We called the company and within a couple of days, customer service sent the missing part, no questions asked, and was very friendly. It still could have been installed without it, but it is something that should ... MoreThis is the second Evolution Incinerator Excel 1 HP Garbage Disposal that we have owned. This is a little bigger than other garbage disposals both in diameter and height. We knew that because we had already owned this same model, but it did surprise us in 2009 that it takes up a little more space. It is very quiet and does an excellent job. Not the least expensive choice, but since out last one did so well and was trouble free for so many years, it was worth it.
