The connections are flimsy, the pieces don't fit together snugly (as in you can see light coming through the other side)... I'd never even consider taking this camera surfing or in water at all without a full dive case.If you're looking for a 360 Action Camera, MAYBE this is for you... but I'd wrap it in a case with lens protectors because left naked you'll get one day of action before you accidentally scratch a lens and that my friends is not a good day.In 2020, the stabilization is as good as it gets, and Insta360's software is fantastic, as is their customer service but for me, this camera fell far from the mark, especially considering all the internet hype leading up to and following its release.

It's better than most cameras like this in the category.- The battery is not internal which means, you just have to buy a new battery not a whole new unit.- You get two cameras in one if you buy the twin edition - 360 and and action camera. You don't find that in most cameras in this category at this price point.- My favorite feature is that I can change the settings of the video after I have already shot the video. All you have to do is load up the editor in the app on your phone and change away. That is amazing.- You can use the camera with bluetooth headphones and use them as a microphone if you want to vlog. Not sure any other camera can do that currently.- The flow stabilization of the camera is pretty good.Con:- the battery is proprietary and cost $30 bucks which is not bad, However I could buy off brand batteries for my gopro and get 2 batteries for $15 bucks and they have a higher capacity.- The app takes a little time to get use to. Some of the tutorials are unclear and don't always work.- The stitching for the dual 360 lenses needs some work. This has already gotten better since I have gotten the camera, but still needs some more adjustments.- The camera says its waterproof, but I just don't trust it yet. I shot some video while on a tripod and the lenses fogged up, on the inside (see my picture)- Customer support is not that great. Sent them an email about the above issue and have not heard anything back.Even though there are more cons than pros I think the Pros are bigger and better than the cons. This is a new product version 1 and there are always some hiccups at first. I have yet to try to take the videos straight from the camera and into Final Cut Pro X (which I think I read you can do just yet), but that will be my next project. For now I am happy with editing the videos in the app.I only gave it four stars because of the lenses fogging up from the inside. Hopefully insta360 knows about this and are trying to fix it.Overall great camera, awesome features and its going to fit in nice with my Fuji's and Panasonic cameras in the field.

I went to remove the scratch with a felt too dremmel bit and buffer. I accidentally heated it up to much and cracked the lens when I went pretty slowly, gently, and carefully. They offer no repair service for the 360 camera mod; nor do they offer just a lens for a diy. The replacement is $100 and they must know 80% of the cameras will develop a scratched lens with in a small time frame. Poor judgment on their customer service to have people that are spending a big chunk of money on getting a camera to need to completely replace something over a piece of glass. Imagine it like as if a cracked, or simply scratched, phone screen caused you to have to replace your entire phone at full cost.

Fantastic gadget with a great twist on making videos

What a great way of recording travel, adventure, motorcycle videos.. giving a view that is different from the existing adventure cameras. I have found the image quality to be really good with great clarity and colour. The built in stabilization works really well, and when using the 360 camera module it gives your videos the gimbal effect without cropping the video. This is something that you can't get from a standard action camera On a motorbike the video keeps the background scenery level and perfectly stabilized, and shows the bike leaning into corners. If you use the 4K camera then you get the usual view with the bike image 'fixed' but the background tilting when the bike corners. If you use the 4K camera then you get the usual view with the bike image 'fixed' but the background tilting when the bike corners. The 360 camera also doesn't miss a thing because it records in all directions.. what I mean is that if a friend rides beside you then you can direct the 360 camera to take video of him while he is beside you and then follow him as he rides to the front of you (or behind). All while the camera is fixed into one position and you don't need to take your eyes off the road. I highly recommend investing in this camera to record sensational travel and action videos. The quality of the camera is superb, and it makes use of standard GoPro style mounts and fittings. It is also much easier to make videos than what I thought it would be and can be as simple as you need it to be. I also have high praise for Johnny Appleseed. They have been very quick to post.. I ordered late in an afternoon and received the item the following day. That's using priority post but I have ordered general items from others on eBay only to realise that it took them two days to get around to posting the item!! Also, JA has been very competitive compared to pricing elsewhere. So, to get a quality product, efficient and professional delivery and service and to know that you are supporting a healthy Aussie business is a good thing, I reckon.

I like it, but I don't

I have had a few issues with the Insta360 One R that I know if I were buying it again I'd like to know that I don't think I was able to find prior to my purchase, some are differences in the models available and others are actual shortcomings with the camera.First, I really loved the idea of being able to put this on my Mavic 2 Pro and saw that they have a kit that allows you to do this. I originally sought to purchase directly with Insta360 prior to a trip (that got canceled due to the 'outbreak' on the day we left) but was told that kit/configuration wasn't shipping for 60 days, so I bought this 'Twin Edition' from B&H. I originally sought to purchase directly with Insta360 prior to a trip (that got canceled due to the 'outbreak' on the day we left) but was told that kit/configuration wasn't shipping for 60 days, so I bought this 'Twin Edition' from B&H. What I figured would happen is that I would purchase the cage/attachment for the Mavic at a later date. What I have come to realize is that the camera itself is a different configuration. The 360 lens portion for the drone configuration actually separates and is then attached to their specially crafted mount so that it plugs all together with the One R system. This was not told to me by Insta360 when I spoke with them last month and it took some digging to find out and I think that someone looking at the same thing might be aided in having this info. The shortcomings I have experienced so far have to do with voice commands and bullet time. Perhaps you've seen the videos of people spinning their Inst360's around on the end of a rope or using the sickeningly expensive selfie stick (Or narcisstick, as I've dubbed them). I swore I would never buy or use one of these things but for this purpose it looked like a fun effect to goof around with. I bought their dedicated Bullet Time narcisstick and, while it is a very well made product, the feature does not work for me as advertised and I have spent the past two weeks with the slowest tech support I've ever experienced trying to get it figured out. You're supposed to be able to swing/spin the camera around and create this 'fun' helicoptering effect on video. The camera has a dedicated setting for it and you'd think it would work as their promo videos show. For me, when I do it as the instructions state, the image is constantly flipping. Obviously they have a gyro sensor, much like most action cameras, that senses when the camera is right side up or upside down and will auto flip the image for you. There also appears to be an auto sensing setting in the settings and it produced the same results for me in either on or off. It creates a jarring video of constantly flipping image. The last is the voice commands. I have not been able to get any of the voice commands to work. Again, I've been trying to get an answer from their support but it takes days just for a reply which usually comes back with more questions that then take more days to hear back from (What firmware are you on?).... Days! Obviously I'm on the latest but it takes days after I give them the version number. I have tried over enunciating, though I don't feel like that's my issue. I have let other people try to see if it just didn't like my voice. I have even had text to voice speak the commands and nothing works.Other than that the camera is pretty cool and lots of fun to play with. Nowhere near the resolution or clarity that you get out of a Theta X but for goofing around it performs as expected.

I have the 360 1r for 3 months now and haven’t been able to get aquality video. The problem I was having was flickering in the videoand blur, I also had trouble with the camera freezing, a few problems with the screen turning white and vignetting There were also problems in their desktop app which gave me an error message when I tried to download them. I had contacted supportwhich was terrible, it was like dealing with a form letter.I had sent them copies of the videos and the only thing they came up with was to shoot at 1/200 of a second and from their analysis or the video, there was nothing wrong. I still get blurring and flickering.I'm sure other people had a good experience with this camera but if you do it's a major problem. I still get blurring and flickering.I'm sure other people had a good experience with this camera but if you do it's a major problem. I bought this camera because of the Leica Lens (which I found out the cheaper models of Leica use lenses made in China). And also because it had 5k and was more expensive and, I felt you get what you pay for.I had watched all the YouTube reviews but found out later most Youtubers won’t really give bad reviews only a sprinkling of things that the company can improve on. They do get free products from the company and get a portion of the sale if you buy it from a link on their website even though they tell you they're independent. To sum this up, I wasted over 500 dollars on this camera when I could have bought the Go Pro and saved money or even bought a gamble and used my phone which has much better quality than the Insta360 1R.

[Rewarded Review] Best purchase I've made!
16 June 2021

Have already brought this out and used on a chest mount more than a few times already and I absolutely love it! Yes it does get hot over time of being used I believe GoPro does it as well. I've compared this to GoPro's cameras and have decided on this OneR camera due to the fact its reliable to shoot and record. Just make sure you have a fast read & write speed micro SD card. I've had one which is a 256GB Sandisk UHS-I V30 for my drone and switched it over to the OneR makes a huge difference.Batteries I would highly recommend upgrading to the boosted (if you don't care about waterproofing) or buy extra batteries $90 for two extra and fast charger in which I did because it will keep the camera waterproof and my batterybacks will charge my batteries while im using ... MoreHave already brought this out and used on a chest mount more than a few times already and I absolutely love it! Very steady and has its own app for editing before hitting post. Cool thing too is that it all stays in the camera!Microphone can be improved but its not terrible audio surprisingly. I still use an external mic on this but If I forgot to bring my external mic I wouldn't be upset about the audio on board.General things about the camera - Its modular! Its price is still hanging on tight so that means its worth it! Still continues to get major updates and I'm pretty sure any upgraded cameras would be parts if you have the brain and battery or be a big bundle for first timers!

[Rewarded Review] Early Adopter - (360 Lens Review Only)
9 February 2020

By far, one of the coolest cameras I have owned in the action camera market. Just received the product today and got to test it out for a little bit (so will update this review as time goes on), but the one thing I really noticed was the level of stabilization on this camera is insane.Pros:1. Video Quality (5.7k 30fps)2. Flowstate 2.0 Stabilization is amazing3. The number of things you can do with the app is incredibleCons:1. Battery Life is still no more than an hour (but will try different settings to see average battery life)2. When connecting the modular pieces together, there is a bit of gap between the battery and the lens/screen, which I'm sure is fine since there is a seal between the connections, but at first I was worried if water would leak in ... MoreBy far, one of the coolest cameras I have owned in the action camera market. Will update after running some water tests. Just kind of unnerving when first putting the pieces together if I did it correctly3. Screen display is small (which isn't an issue itself), but I have noticed flickering from booting up and sometimes going through the menu (occasional). I'm sure this will be patched eventuallyOverall, yes I recommend this product to those looking for great stabilization and video quality. I have also looked into the One X and Hero Max, and my personal opinion is that the One R is better than the One X in terms of video quality, but the Hero Max has slightly better video quality than the One R. However, in terms of workflow and editing, the app is incredible and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Can't recommend enough. Please let me know your thoughts on the product and if I missed anything, or got anything wrong and needs updating. Thanks for reading!

[Rewarded Review] Very disappointed

Was super excited for this one. Already had the GoPro Max and was loving the different views and angles you could get with a 360 camera. Thought I’d try this one out due to its ability to shapeshift and be two cameras in one.In fairness I never got to actually test out how the product worked. Two reasons.... First, upon opening the box and taking out the camera (with 4K lens attached) it’s easy to notice a large gap between the battery and the rest of the camera. You can easily see right thru the thing. Now, it sounds like this is normal, and exactly what the camera is supposed to look like, but still a little worrisome, considering it’s advertised as waterproof. At this price tag, and being able to look through a gap in the camera, you can’t help but be a little nervous. However I was will willing to give it a shot anyway. I mean, if it works it works, so I can deal with poorly designed gap. But the second issue gave me no choice but to return it. The 360 lens of the camera had a small nick right in the middle of one of the lenses. Small, but without a doubt large enough to mess up any shot.Best Buy was great about understanding and returning the product. However, they were out of stalk at the store and online at the time and have remained that way. I’ll just be sticking with my GoPro Max for my 360 shots, and I highly recommend you do the same.
