Still getting to grips with my Instant Pot with Ultimate Lid version. Unlike some, I will use it as an accompaniment to compliment my existing kitchen cooking devices, rather than as a replacement for them. I'd always wanted a pressure cooker and slow cooker, and our deep fat fryer went on the blink. I didn't have the worktop space for a replacement as well as have the other two cookers, so it made sense to get a multi-cooker that gave me all 3 (and more) facilities. I have managed to get fairly good results for the IP version of the triple cooked chips I made on the DFF. It's great for steaming potatoes and veg. I've used it for slow cooking pot roast style pork and topside of beef. I've used it for slow cooking pot roast style pork and topside of beef. There are only the two of us, but I wouldn't want the air fryer basket to be any smaller. Its size lets me spread stuff out. I think this version of IP might be a bit big for just one person, but then maybe not if they do batch cooking and soup making. The inner pot used for pressure and slow cooking is big, but I need it that size for making my huge pots of soup coming in to winter. I know I haven't used it to anywhere near its full potential yet, and probably never will. Be aware that it's VERY heavy and really quite large, but not much bigger than the DFF it replaced. It needs to be stored on the worktop, as it's too heavy to lift out the cupboard all the time. It has a hinged lid that doesn't come off. I have it sitting underneath my wall cupboards and pull it out to cook with. The tiny manual that accompanys the IP has a cheek to call itself that, everything's online. However, you have to do a lot of digging to find what you need. There are however lots of excellent websites and plenty of groups on Facebook. Instant Pot has its own UK Community Facebook group. It contains some fantastic help provided by it's members, as well as a diverse searchable recipe database. There's also an IP app, which is worth looking at. It's a good solid piece of kit and useful for everyone. I hope it will save me lots of time and be a real boon in the future.

I have a big pressure cooker that I never use - too fussy, too much work, I never know how long I should cook stuff, whether it's pressurized enough to start counting yet or not, etc. Plus it's too big for me alone. I have been hesitating on the IP for a long time. I was waiting for the Ultra 3qt to come back, but it seems like that's not going to happen. SO I finally caved to peer pressure (ah!) and got this one instead. And oh, my. YES. SO MUCH YES. I haven't done much yet, but the simple fact that I can finally steam veggies as much as I want to with zero fuss, next to zero dishes, and with barely any work, have more than sold it on me. Favorite French beef stew that I only ever get to eat when I go back home? Check. Chicken soup? Check. Very few dishes? Check. Clean kitchen? Check. Food prep in the morning because you can delay the start or slow cook with no supervision? Check. This little baby is now my Air Fryer's best friend, and the rest of my cookware hates them. My stovetop too. I cook a whole meal and end up with one pot to clean (or two if I used the steamer basket) that doesn't need actual scrubbing, plus the air fryer's basket, and the cutting board. That's it. All that being said, I wish it had a few things it doesn't: - Ability to set the temperature lower (in yogurt mode) so I could make fromage blanc ( a cross between yogurt and fresh cultured soft cheese), - Higher sauté temp. As it is, it's barely hot enough to sear anything. Oh, and get yourself a steamer basket. It comes with a trivet that will hold big food chunks out of the water, but the keywork here is *big* chunks - and it's *below* the food, so good luck taking it all out. If you want to actually steam stuff, get a steaming basket. Also negates the need for a colander. I also got the silicon lid, so I can put the leftovers in the fridge directly without having to transfer them. You will also need some kind of mitt because the pot can get hot and doesn't have a handle.

So let me start by saying I have had the Instant Pot Duo Nova 8-Quart 7-in-1 Multi Cooker for several years now, and it's held up over that many years of use with absolutely zero issues. I'd say I use this maybe once a week to cook either rice, baked potatoes, or something of the sort (if not a full on roast) and it is a must-have addition in any kitchen if you have the storage space to accommodate it (it is a bit bulky). It cleans very easily and most parts are dishwasher safe. Certain parts you do need to replace every so often as they degrade such as the lids seal ring. All in all though this appliance has been a lifesaver in terms of my TIME and SANITY some nights when I'm simply too tired to stand at my stove and cook an entire meal.

Finally a real kitchen multi-tasker. I've had a really nice 8qt pressure cooker, that I probably use annually, largely because it does not have a delayed start feature (and my wife is afraid of it). I do use my crockpot's more often but they don't have the necessary keep warm feature that the Instant Pot has. I've spent more time cleaning one of my crockpots, used to make mac-and-cheese and burning (more like fusing) cheese to the bottom. But the Instant Pot has both a delay start function and keep warm after cooking function - brilliant - (not to mention 12 different cooking modes). Before using the pot I washed the lid and stainless pot, I inspected the silicon seal in the lid to insure it was properly seated. But the Instant Pot has both a delay start function and keep warm after cooking function - brilliant - (not to mention 12 different cooking modes). Before using the pot I washed the lid and stainless pot, I inspected the silicon seal in the lid to insure it was properly seated. BTW, the pot comes with a spare silicon seal (red), you might want use different seals with different recipes after sometime. So I'm accustomed to pressure cooking, but the instant Pot adds a simplicity to building up the pressure, monitoring the pressure, and most importantly releasing the pressure. So for my first dish I made a 6lbs savory rosemary chicken, with potatoes and cinnamon carrots. Prep was easy used 1 can of Chicken Stock as the liquid, fresh rosemary and sweet onions inside the bird, with a salt, pepper, garlic and poultry seasoning rub on the bird. I set the pressure cooker timer to 40m, and sealed the lid. It took about 5m for the pot to fully pressurize, at that point the silver pressure seal pops up on the pot. The pressure turning knob should be in up position, you push it down to release the pressure (3rd images is trying to show steam release). When the cooking is complete (in this case about 45m from start) the pot shifts to "keep warm" mode (2nd image). After releasing the pressure (steam), which takes about 20s, I removed the lid and found my fully cooked chicken. It smelled wonderful, and tasted wonderful. I next cooked about 2lbs of spare ribs, which I braised before putting them in the pot with potatoes and vegetables. I cooked them for about 30m, which was probably 5m to long, considering I braised them. They were very rich as expected. There is an Instant Pot app that has a huge number of recipes, but the app does not interface with the pot (that I have), I believe there is another version of the Instant Pot that does have a direct interface app (I saw the app in the app store). Cleaning the pot is fairly easy, but I do wish they offered a true non-stick surface. But I now understand why the Instant Pot has become so popular, it offers the right combination for features so you can prepare a meal well in advance and keep it warm before serving, and with the steam, dishes don't dry out. If only it had a self cleaning pot....

Right off the bat, this unit is HUGE. The 8-quart unit serves 'large families' according to the Instant Pot's website, so that explains its enormous size. My kitchen is small, so I have to figure out where to store it when not in use.As for its features, there are many cooking options with various buttons and settings, but I'll eventually figure them out as well. Before getting started, be sure to read the enclosed manual and watch the videos on Instant Pot's website (they have a wide range of recipes as well). When the unit finishes cooking and releases the steam, it shoots out diagonally, so make sure there is nothing in the way. Also, definitely cover your hands with an oven mitt or some type of a protective gear to avoid getting burnt with hot steams when releasing the pressure valve.I steamed broccoli as my very first Instant Pot meal (or side dish), after the initial test run with water. I know it sounds boring, but it turned out to be an important test. I searched online and found a good recommendation to set the timer to zero (0) min., so it won't overcook. The portion I was steaming was smaller than what the recipe suggested, so I reduced the amount of water - a big mistake. It turns out the liquid you add doesn't necessary collate proportionately to the amount of food you are cooking. If you don't put enough liquid, you end up burning your food. I got this alarming message on the display stating 'FOOD BURN' and the bottom of the inner pot got slightly scorched.Good news, though - broccoli were still steamed perfectly and delicious without adding any seasoning. Also, the inner pot cleaned out really well and I was able to wash off the burn effortlessly, so it's good as new again!Overall, I am happy with my new Instant Pot Duo Nova (one less star for its bulkiness) and can't wait to try cooking more heathy meals.

I honestly do not know what half of these settings are, but I am looking forward to trying some of them out. The modes that we have used, mainly Meat/Stew, Steam, and Rice have worked as you would expect them to. There was not a huge learning curve from out last pressure cooker and the food came out just as good as the last one, if not slightly better. The overall design is functional such as the cut outs on the top that hold the lid and the rice spoon holder on the side of unit. It is recommended that you wash out the rubber seal in the lid and Instant Pot has a red rubber seal that is extra so you can swap them out and clean it. The pressure relief valve has a separate button that you can push which to me is better than our old one which you had to twist the valve and if you were not fast enough, you could burn yourself, this separate design is nice as it all about eliminates that accident that is waiting to happen. We love using this Instant Pot Duo Nova for the solid build, smart design, and ease of use. I am sure we will get many years of use out of this and I look forward to the many dishes that my wife will cook with it.

[Rewarded Review] Now I Know Why My Daughter Likes It
17 October 2020

My wife is a full time health care provider with a long commute which makes for a very long day. On top of that, she normally shoulders the burden of cooking dinner every night and makes sure our family has an excellent and healthy dinner. As her husband, I try my best to balance the overall work load and do other household related tasks, including laundry, grocery runs, etc., but I am not what you could call a cook. On top of that, she normally shoulders the burden of cooking dinner every night and makes sure our family has an excellent and healthy dinner. As her husband, I try my best to balance the overall work load and do other household related tasks, including laundry, grocery runs, etc., but I am not what you could call a cook. However, I am a chemist that knows how to follow procedures and protocols – so how hard can this cooking thing be? And I like nice tools that can make a task easier.Last Christmas we gave our adult daughter an Instant Pot for Christmas. It was something she had asked for and she is an excellent cook. Not sure how she got to be so proficient in the kitchen but the meals she makes for her family are fabulous. That said, I decided if she likes this product, it might be worth giving it a try – it helps my wife, it seems like a neat tool, and I like to eat good food. All I knew or thought I knew about the Instant Pot was that it seemed to be a cross between a pressure cooker and a crock pot. A very short YouTube video showed me the basics, although I did take a look at the enclosed instructions as well.Up to this point the only thing I knew about “pressure cookers” came from long ago childhood memories of my grandmother and mother using this beast of a pot with serious bolts clamping down the lid of this thick walled vessel with an ominous pressure gauge on top and a vent on the top that they told me to stay away from. They used it to can vegetables and other stuff that was stored in canning jars that resided in the basement for many years with a date taped to the jar. Sometimes the stuff inside would change color and that was not a good thing. Yeah – a lot of that stuff was stewed tomatoes and string beans I think. Anyway, as an adult today, I prefer factory sealed cans, or frozen vegetables. I assume all that home canned stuff made us stronger since it did not kill us.UnpackingI received what appeared to be an outer box covering the actual product box inside. The outer box was clearly labeled “this side up” and “fragile”. As it turned out the outer box actually only covered 5 sides of the inner box, and in fact the inner box was another 5 sided cover – in the reverse orientation – also labeled “this side up” – of course directly opposite of what the other box indicated. Inside of that second layer of box was the actual product box. The actual product box – if one followed the directions on the outside box – was in fact shipped upside down the entire delivery. Once inside the actual product box, everything seemed to be fine. And all components were included.Initial Product Preparations Prior to UsePrior to use the manual directs the user to perform an initial test run using 3 cups of water. I am assuming this ensures the unit is working properly, as well as introducing the user to the basic operation of the Instant Pot. The manual also directs the user to remove and clean the sealing ring, float valve and silicone cap which secures the valve, the anti-block shield (which prevents any food particles from escaping during the steam venting), and the condensate collector. The ring, float valve, and condensate collector can be removed and installed easily but the anti-block shield is a bit more difficult to remove. I wonder how many users actually take the time to remove and clean the individual components rather than just cleaning the top of the pot with everything already installed. Being detail oriented (and perhaps with a little OCD) I feel compelled to follow the recommended procedure. Just be careful not to misplace the float valve and tiny silicone cap which secures the float valve in the lid.Ready to Go!Anxious to get started – and having promised my wife that I had everything in order for dinner that night, I pulled in an expert, my daughter, for advice. I could have taken a simple route for the maiden voyage and just cooked rice, but she suggested one of her favorites, “Instant Pot Cheesy Broccoli Chicken and Rice”. Maybe it was a function of a well written recipe, or the ease of using the Instant Pot, but the end product was excellent, getting positive reviews from both my wife and son (who can be a bit fussy at times). The use of the control panel was pretty intuitive and I am confident that my overall turnaround time will improve with a little practice and familiarity. One thing I did learn from the YouTube video that I don’t recall seeing in the manual is the slot in the side handle of the Instant Pot base. This slot is used to hold the top perpendicular to the base when removing to add or remove contents from the pot and avoids the need and space required to set the top down on the countertop. It will also allow the top to be put there after cleaning so that all parts can dry thoroughly before reassembling.

[Rewarded Review] Surprising Multi-Use Food Cooker
11 October 2020

I’ve never used an Instant Pot before and I was quite curious so I decided to check out the Instant Pot Duo Nova, and so far I have not been disappointed. Inside the box comes the Instant Pot, the 8 quart container, a trivet, 2 pressure cooker sealing rings(one already installed in the pot cover), a little condensation container to catch the excess moisture run-off( see pictures) and the usual paperwork which includes a quick- start guide and a poster with various foods and their cooking times.First off, this pot is built tough and I have no doubt it will last a long time. Each of the parts seem to be very sturdy and I doubt I will ever question its durability. Each of the parts seem to be very sturdy and I doubt I will ever question its durability. It is also very easy to operate with all buttons located towards the front of the pot, surrounding the display screen which shows which settings are currently active and the countdown/cooking times. The pot has 12 different cooking modes, some of which include, yogurt and saute. To access any of the cooking modes, simply press their respective buttons, set the desired time and watch it go.The first thing I tried (which was one of the things that got me interested in the first place) was making a cheesecake. This experience turned out very well (check pictures) and I must say it could not have been simpler. I just googled/youtubed a recipe specific to the pot and stuck to it. I must point out a few things when using the pot. Once you have added the water to your pot and whatever thing you do decide to cook, there is a time period it takes to pressurize. So far, based on the things I have tried, the time to pressurize has ranged from 5 to 10 mins for me, and I find that very quick. Once pressurized you will notice that the steam nob on the pot cover will be fully popped up and it is only then will your food start to cook and your timer starts to run down. When your food is finished you can leave as is and the pressure will slowly release by itself or you can turn the steam release switch which will instantly release the steam. If you are new to this be very careful, so that you avoid possibly burning yourself, I doubt you will though.I also like that point has a slow cooker function, a keep warm function and a Delay start function. I find these really useful as it allows you many ways to time and prepare your food. There is also a chime that is done when you open and close the pot. In fact there is a specific chime that is heard depending on if you are sealing the pot or unsealing the pot. I find this as a nice touch and I really appreciate it.To wrap up the Duo Nova is a no nonsense easy to use versatile multi-cooker. It cooks a variety of things and it does so quickly. I’m excited to try cooking many other things and I have already recommended it to some of my friends and family.

[Rewarded Review] Wife's new favorite small kitchen appliance

My wife has been wanting to get an InstantPot since we started staying at home due to COVID. She liked the idea of getting something that could make a lot of food quickly with recipes she found on Pinterest. We had another pressure cooker that we've had for a while, but the recipes for that cooker vs an InstantPot one required conversions of ingredient size - and she wanted something that she could use quickly and simply. She's used it so far to make a large pot of rice, which she normally has trouble cooking on a cooktop, as well as some excellent macaroni and cheese! Having something that she can use to whip up tasty food quickly is a win-win for me!The main thing she noted about it versus our older, non-InstantPot branded cooker, was how easy it was use. Having something that she can use to whip up tasty food quickly is a win-win for me!The main thing she noted about it versus our older, non-InstantPot branded cooker, was how easy it was use. At first, she was a little surprised that there wasn't a real "instruction" manual or anything with it, but it was easy enough to turn on and start using day one.InstantPot also has a mobile app where you can view other recipes to get new ideas - which is a blessing, so you don't find yourself eating the same food over and over again. The larger size pot also makes plenty of food for our family of 4, we usually have leftovers. It could probably be used to take care of meal prep for a larger group of people too, and once all this COVID craziness is behind us, we look forward to entertaining guests and family with food cooked in this thing. For me, my biggest joy is how easy this thing is to clean. Take the tub out, clean it off, throw it in the dishwasher for a quick sanitize and boom - you're done and it's ready to be used for more tasty cooking. This is a larger size pot though, so you'll need to make sure you have a good size cabinet or storage option available to you to keep this thing up when not in use. It's not the smaller one where you can leave it on your counter and it goes unnoticed. For my money, it was a no brainer and I'm glad we got it!
