I spent time researching air fryers. Most I know already had an air fryer already and raved about how amazing they are. I had never heard of the Instant Vortex Plus until now and have to say it is amazing 6 in 1 - air fries, bakes, roasts, dehydrates, reheat and grills.I haven't used all the functions yet and much of it is trial and error with timings and temperature guessing - but, there are so many groups online that you can join for 100's of recipes. It has been a game changer in my house, so easy to use, so quick to cook, so much fun trialing recipes (I've actually enjoyed cooking again!).This machine is brilliant value for money, so easy to clean and although a little nervous at first, it is so easy to use and it's huge! It has really handy features of a clear window and light, so you can easily keep an eye on what your cooking. Preheats so quickly too.Best purchase I've made for the kitchen!

Love the fact you can do multiple things with this device, and the capacity is great for the overall size of the machine. Definitely cooks a lot faster / more evenly than a conventional fan oven, and I am sure the reheat and grill functions will be useful too. It is super easy to use too, very intuitive, makes sounds when needed, and overall isn't too noisy to run. It does pump out some heat from the fan at the back, but as long as it has some air clearance around it isn't going to scorch anything or impact the cupboard it sits below. A good buy for the price. The only reason it lost a star is that on the JL product specification, it says the food drawer is dishwasher safe (which you really want to to be!!), yet the paper instructions that come with the device have ... MoreLove the fact you can do multiple things with this device, and the capacity is great for the overall size of the machine. I'm usually sceptical of fad gadgets and steer clear but my oven thermostat broke and was going to take a while to sort out the part so I decided to investigate what all the fuss is about on Air Fryers, especially as I rarely fry anything. Essentially I needed something to roast a small chicken, crisp jacket potatoes after starting off in the microwave, reheating my frozen batched booked meals and making roast veg and potatoes and the odd cake. I settled on this due to previous reviews, the large single drawer, the window with light and because it looked like it would blend into the kitchen. I can tell you that it's a game changer for us. It does everything I needed it to and is so much quicker and tastier, plus we're now getting inspired to try different things to ... MoreI'm usually sceptical of fad gadgets and steer clear but my oven thermostat broke and was going to take a while to sort out the part so I decided to investigate what all the fuss is about on Air Fryers, especially as I rarely fry anything. It does everything I needed it to and is so much quicker and tastier, plus we're now getting inspired to try different things to see how it handles them. One new favourite is frozen croissants at the weekend, six turn out wafer crispy in about 10 minutes. All I can say is, the main oven has been abandoned for the last 2 months and I haven't even bothered to try and get it fixed. This is such a delight to use and so much cheaper, healthier and creates less smell. Being easy to clean is the cherry on top. We are only two/three people using it at any one time, so if there was a big family at home I'd probably invest in two. It's simplified our lives and I highly recommend it. Let's hope it lasts for years.
I took a chance on this fryer — I’ a late adopter — and I’m glad I did. I’m also glad I waited for this highly rated model. I especially love the window. You can really see the state of the food. It’s quiet too, just a very refined tinkle when it’s time to insert food. Quite an improvement from the old-school one my friends have. I made lamb kabobs, roasted veg, including mushrooms, and homemade French fries. Easy cleanup. I also bought a couple of great accessory kits online, including a rack and skewers, grill pan, donut pan. I waited a long time before giving in to the air fryer craze: this replaces my bulky hard-to-clean toaster oven. One thing — ya might have to play around a bit withe temps. It cooks stuff quite fast. I dithered for ages about whether to buy an air fryer - could they really be as good as everyone made out? The answer is yes! This one was recommended and I'm so glad I bought it. There's no need for special recipes, it can be used for anything that would normally be cooked in the oven, all you need is a temperature/time conversion chart which is easily found online. As well as vegetables, sausages, meatballs, I've used it for pizzas, bread rolls (dough made in the bread machine), ready meals etc. It even makes nice toast. If you're trying to decide whether to get an air fryer with one large basket or two smaller ones, this model is a good size for anything that can be cooked in a pyrex or metal dish eg. nut roast, casserole, fruit crumble etc.The glass window is ... MoreI dithered for ages about whether to buy an air fryer - could they really be as good as everyone made out? I'm pleased I purchase an air dryer of this size and one with multi options. I have used the baking option mainly to cook muffins, moussaka, anything that would normally go in my oven which fits in a suitably sized tin (cake tins, loaf tins, Pyrex dishes etc,). I haven't bought any new cookware, just some silicon muffin cases. It fits neatly in the corner, is quiet and heats up very quickly. You can pop the light on during cooking to see how things are going, adjust the timing and temperature whilst it's cooking too with a turn of the dial. Used the fryer option for chips recently (from potato, not freezer!) which worked well but will probably make them less chunky next time. For smaller amounts maybe 2 drawers would be useful so you can cook 2 things at once, but ... MoreI'm pleased I purchase an air dryer of this size and one with multi options. I find the reheating option excellent for things that would go soft in the microwave (ie. pastry based, crumble etc) - press reheat, go and it just does it automatically.
I bought this over two months ago after an extensive research and it's been fantastic.[Pro]- Usability: It's simple to set the time and temperature. I appreciate the dial to adjust temps instead of up and down button which you need to click on good few seconds to adjust temperature.- Glass Screen: The glass front that you can check inside with light makes huge difference. If you need to open the basket to check the food, you will lose a lot of heat.- I cook almost all kind of meat with 'NO' oil (or just a half table spoon), with only oil from the meat(chicken wing for example) it cooks very well, pretty crispy to my standard. In long term, this is hell of less oil intake! I have used a couple of different air frier at friend's house before buying this one ... MoreI bought this over two months ago after an extensive research and it's been fantastic.[Pro]- Usability: It's simple to set the time and temperature. There is no information provided on what kind of coating they used but it seems to be pretty standard in the air frier industry for now.
I am going to try to write the most comprehensive review on this unit because I have ordered 3 Air Fryers over the last year ... and have not been satisfied with the performance of any of them, until this unit arrived! I highly recommend buying the 'gold standard' if you can afford the extra expense because it absolutely is worth it in the long run, especially as much as you will use this. Instant Brands created a sensation a few years ago with the Instant Pot, which many people raved about. Having used one, I will attest to the fact that it performed very well and for the first few months, I used nothing but Instant Pot to cook. The same is true of this unit, I've had it for 3 days and have used it 8 times! Here are a few of the benefits of buying this unit, in my opinion:- This requires little/no pre-heating, making it super easy and fast to make a snack or meal. With my other generic air fryers, there was a pre-heat time in order to ensure that the item would be properly cooked through and not raw on the inside and burnt on the outside. This added 8 - 10 minutes to the cooking time and an annoying extra step to worry about. With this unit, it does not require pre-heating, yet the food comes out very good and cooked throughout.- The odor guard is the biggest difference between this unit and the step down Vortex, without it. Is it worth $20-$30 extra for this feature? I am a bit up in the air about this. There are two removable, cheap filters located in the machine, which last for 900 hours before needing to be replaced. These worked very well on fried foods, which leave that 'fried greasy' smell lingering in the air overnight after you cook (or re-heat) something that is fried, such as chicken tenders. While it wasn't totally gone, it was a lot less noticeable than before when using this unit. Brussel Sprouts are one of my favorite foods to cook in the Air Fryer because their center is moist while their outer layer is crispy. However, they smell so bad for days! This unit didn't make them totally smell-less, but by the morning, the odor was gone, whereas normally it lasts much longer. Salmon was the same ... I could smell the fishy smell while cooking but it lingered a lot less thanks to the filters. Is it worth $30? Maybe for smaller apartments or under-ventilated rooms.- Their 'Even Crisp' technology seems to be a winner compared to my other air fryers. In my experience, less is more when it comes to these units. Most of the cooking times (even with pre-set settings) are better shortened. One of the air fryers I've used is a full 8 minutes off when it comes to making french fries. Even with the no preheating needed, the Even Crisp makes very well made items. Out of any air fryer (or toaster oven) I've used, the food in this one is the closest to the actual deep fried goodness you'd experience in a chip shop or restaurant ... all using 95% less oil, which means less saturated fat. Bottom line ... the performance cannot be beat.- Versatility ... 2-3 minutes will toast bread. If you are making hot dogs, the skin will be very crisp and good, the way they are off the griddle ... while the inside stays moist. For the final 1-2 minutes, you can stop the cycle, add a few buns, standing on their split end, and finish with slightly toasted buns. Here is my biggest secret when it comes to the air fryer ... polenta croutons! For a salad, you can cut polenta into small cubes, season them with salt, spices, etc. and use the air fryer for 3-5 minutes in order to make crisp on the outside and soft on the inside polenta croutons. You can pretty much use this for anything ... even to fry a chicken cutlet (from scratch or pre-made) crisp, then add some sauce and cheese to melt ... and finish by broiling to give the cheese that nice bubbly texture. The not so great stuff ...- The glass window allows you to look inside while you are cooking in order to see the progress. While this is pretty convenient vs. having to open the basket and stop the cycle to check, I will say that it is a pain to clean this glass window area. After a few uses, it will also get a little grimy looking and no amount of scrubbing will clean the edges.- The most IMPORTANT note ... this is made with a BPA and PFOA-free non-stick coating. However, small pets and birds will not be safe while this is being used. Parakeets and other small animals are very sensitive to certain non-stick coatings, especially those with Teflon. This is not safe for use around small animals and birds, which might be a dealbreaker for pet owners. Dogs and cats should be fine ... but I'd think twice about bringing this around gerbils, birds, etc.- This could be good or bad ... but unlike many of the cheaper units which have 1-touch buttons, such as 'French Fries' , 'Chicken', 'Steak', 'Pizza', etc. this unit has no pre-set one-touch buttons for commonly made items. For lazy chefs who just want to press a button and eat minutes later, this is not good. For those home chefs who are more into cooking and preparing a recipe, the current system might be better because it allows you to dial in a certain temperature and time vs. using a pre-set, which may or may not account for recipe or size of the portion. Be aware that if you want a one-touch and done ... the less expensive units might be better for you, although they cook more unevenly. If you are okay with looking an item's cook time up and then dialing in specifics, this would be more your cup of tea. What gets a little cloudy is ... what's the difference between 'Airfry' and 'Bake' button? What is the difference between "Roast" or "Broil"? There will be a learning curve where you will need to play around a bit, just as with anything.- Finally, I am not a fan of apps which don't offer much and in order to get access to the 'hundreds' of recopies for this, you have to download an app and register. Seems like a lot of data given away for little reward, so while I would love to try different recopies, I will likely look them up on the internet vs. download the app. If this had some kind of Bluetooth monitoring or cooking feature, I might consider the app ... but just to have access to recipes, I'll pass on the app.Overall, if you can afford to put in a few more bucks to buy this unit ... do it. It cooks the best out of any of the 3 other Air Fryer units I've tried. It looks classy, like an appliance, with its sleek stainless steel shell and although it does take up quite a bit of real estate on a counter-top, it's worth it when it comes to function. I have found when it comes to cooking equipment, it's better to buy name brand. The generic ones perform okay for the price, but there's a reason names like Instant Brands, Ninja, etc. are so well known. This makes a great upgrade or gift and I do like the odor control feature, even if it's not completely flawless.
Having recently seen a TV programme highlighting the savings of using an air fryer vs conventional oven I set about researching potential options in shops & online. Originally I had my mind set on a double drawer model but after viewing these on display in shops it was soon obvious to their limitations, drawers too small for a chicken, for example. This model in shops looked one of the better quality options & the fact JL had it on offer in a sale event meant I could buy 2 of these for less than the cost of a model with 2 small compartments.Using it is brilliant, heats up in no time, cooks ingredients about 2/3 time of conventional oven.Online advice suggests not stacking food for cooking, hence needing 2 units or 2 drawers if cooking different dishes at the same ... MoreHaving recently seen a TV programme highlighting the savings of using an air fryer vs conventional oven I set about researching potential options in shops & online. Running cost should still be fraction of an oven. The other minus is the online user experience notes that the tray in the drawers suffer heat cycle degradation & can expect the silicon edges to break over time.No instructions regarding cooking times with the appliance but these can be found easily online & printed if required.
