I really wasnt sure what to expect. If you have the CPU and GPU horsepower, its an amazing looking and playing title. It reminds me alot of HALO with more RPG elements and alot better graphics! I'm a casual gamer, and I can see myself finishing this title honestly. The foliage is incredible, dense jungles with alot of things moving all around. In my opinion its better than PhysX, its that good. Im sure theres some kind of physics engine, probably HAVOK or a CPU based physics engine. DX10 looks amazing! If you have the latest hardware, this is the title to showcase your rig. I got this free with an INTEL I7 930. I somehow didnt have the game show up in my shopping cart when I checked out, but NEWEGG made an exception and sent it to me anyways, they are truly an ... MoreI really wasnt sure what to expect. This game takes me back to when i was 12 years old. This is one of favorite games, as i was a huge fan of the movie. This game dosen't have the best story writing, but has very good gameplay that will keep you going, and the same goes for the world of pandora. It has creatures you can fly, and vehicles you can drive, like the MK6 AMP suit which is frickin awesome. Anyways, not the most detailed review but i suggest loooking up some gameplay.

Ubisoft Montreal had a significant advantage over most licensed game developers by having access to assets from Cameron’s top-secret property a full two years before its release. And this early access is apparent within seconds of ogling the title’s setting, the fictional planet of Pandora, as it pops off the screen with a majestic beauty rarely seen in shooters. Sure, we’ve seen plenty of lush tropical settings before, but Avatar ups the visual ante, adding details and touches that go beyond just creating a backdrop for the action. Rather than spamming color schemes and assets to give the illusion of a living, breathing world, Avatar brims its pretty planet with various shades of green, dotted with more vibrantly colored flora and fauna. Exotic trees and plants come in astounding varieties, and wildlife freely roam the world; more than once we were caught off guard by elegant deer-like creatures prancing through the brush. Where such similar settings suffer monotony by using “tree A” and “plant B” repeatedly, a stroll through Pandora is packed with immersion-pushing surprises at every turn. Avatar nails the presentation, offering a richly rendered world that continually stings the senses. Any developer planning to place its game in a jungle-like setting now has a new benchmark to aspire to. The weapons and gear, especially those of the Na’vi, are a blast to unleash on your enemies, and vehicles and creatures make travel speedy and fun. There’s also a lot of game here; in addition to a beefy solo campaign, brimming with non-critical content, there’s a multiplayer mode, although the servers weren’t up in time for our review. Ubisoft Montreal has crafted one of the better licensed efforts we’ve seen in a while, but a weak story, poor pacing and a few minor gameplay flaws keep Avatar from competing with the likes of far superior, recent third-person efforts such as Assassin’s Creed II and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Invite a friend to play and double your pleasure with full screen action.

The game has many good points and a few bad points. Considering the Wii platform, the graphics are very good. Character control though does leave something to be desired but overall not to bad. The big plus is the fact that a second player can jump in at any time and play in "the same screen", not a split screen. This makes for some very fun co-operative playing. My lady friend and I had a great time fighting side by side in this game. There are many upgrades to buy and if you have the "Wii Motion Plus", you can control the Hellfire Wasps for an attack on the enemy. For your entertainment buck you can't go wrong.

Let Down

The movie was fantastic; amazing graphics, characters, storyline (although it was totally Space Pocohontas). However this game was not fantastic at all. The graphics are pretty good, but not that epic. The small part of one forest is in night time, and it does look pretty nice with all its florescent colours and what not. The ability to have it in 3D is nice too.The gameplay itself lacked effort, and there were some plot holes too. For example, everyone spoke English? Another was that you were able to mount any Mountain Banshee, though in the movie they are meant to bond with a Na'Vi for life. The game could have been so much better. It felt is though they had rushed it. It felt is though they had rushed it. They could have improved it by perhaps letting you customise your character's face and body, letting you persue romances, or at the very least have side quests. Instead of making the game based on a time before the movie, they might as well have made the game a remake of the movie itself. They could have spent more time on it then.In my opinion this game was a let down. But it is something to keep you occupied if you were bored and had nothing better to play.

Rent or Buy ?

I read loads of reviews before buying this game and all mixed, as the jury was out i rented it first. I enjoy playing Avatar, the graphics are special creating incredable jungle landscapes. The game its self can be played from either side and you can choose between being an RDA or a Na'vi. There are loads of different activities from driving vehicles & boats to riding animals. The game play is really good and the controls are easy to pick up, the responces ok not the best ive played with but by no means the worst. The game is long and completing it with both players extends it further so it will keep you busy for a while. As a movie tie in I think its good. As with all games it isnt perfect but it IS good fun. Did I buy it after renting ? ...........Yes I did, give ... MoreI read loads of reviews before buying this game and all mixed, as the jury was out i rented it first. Suprise: its not terrible

After coming off of a month of Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon age, I decided, against my better judgement, to give Avatar a try. Gamers know the quality of most movie based games, but I played this one because Im really looking foward to James Camerons return to cinema with the movie Avatar. This game has been pretty hyped as a revolution in movie based games, and while it isnt exactly that, it was far better than I expected. First, the good: -It plays and controls fairly well -The graphics are outstanding. Its obvious that the main character is actually Pandora itself. -Its of a pretty decent length -lots of weapons and armor -The AMP suit is pretty cool -A branching story give you an excuse to play through twice -The 'pandora-pedia' is awesome if you have an interest ... MoreAfter coming off of a month of Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon age, I decided, against my better judgement, to give Avatar a try. The bad: -It can get a bit repetitive -everybody knows: guns and mechs vs. spears and bows= guns and mechs win pretty much everytime -Its supposed to be a prequel, but I get the feeling that its pretty much the same story as the movie is going to be -the buggy has some major control issues compared to the rest of the vehicles - the pc version comes with some pretty nasty drm. I didnt realize that until after I bought it. GET THE CONSOLE VERSION. -multiplayer isnt dragging anyone away from Modern Warfare. I usually avoid reviewing movie games, but I did because I like the fact that it seems Ubisoft actually cared about what they were making, rather that just throw something together and call it a game. Its not a fantastic, jaw dropping game by any means, and theres a lot better this holiday season. For a movie game, its really good. Its most certainly worth a rental and possibly a buy if your really looking foward to the movie. Note: I didnt get the chance to play it that way, but its my understanding that the 3d tech this game can do makes it look even better.

It's a prequel so it does not follow the movie storyline.
