A Match Made in Heaven!

There are rare moments in life when all of the ingredients come together in one harmonious blend to make a product that is both extremely tasty and cost efficient. These moments are even more rare in the world of whiskey! Jameson's Caskmates Stout Edition is one such item. The nose is pleasant with whiff's of the stout coming through most noticeably. It is almost as if you are walking through the brewery and being surrounded by that scent of yeast. There is no overwhelming scent of alcohol which you find in some blends of this nature. On the palette the taste is surprisingly smooth for a 40 proof whiskey. I would say the finish itself is a little short but the overall experience is very good. This is not a perfect whiskey, so Heaven still has a ways to go. But for the price, and the sheer pleasure one gets in drinking the Stout Edition, one can not go wrong! The more I drink it the better it gets.

So you know what to expect from a drop of Irish ? Wrong wrong wrong. This is quite startling if you're not expecting it. Deliciously staisfying on the nose with a full mouth feel which is medium to oily. Very smooth and lots of lingering toffee, fruit and a hint of honey. Very enjoyable and fun to drink. Neat or on the rocks is an easy pleasure. Highly recommended especially if you normally don't venture far from mainstream Scottish malts.

A perfect combination for me

As a lover of both Whisky & Stout this was bound to be a great combination. This actually has a slightly fruity smell of apples & pears which is unusual for a whisky but quite pleasant. Once you take your first sip though it is a rich & complex flavour explosion....yes it tastes like Whisky, but there are almost chocolate hints with a hoppy, almond & oak hints. The finish is almost sweet with a toffee/caramel toffee sweetness. This is one to drink alone, with a mixer or alongside your favourite stout, it certainly holds it's own & is likely to be loved by experienced as well as new Irish Whisky drinkers.

After the Love has Gone

This WAS my favorite Irish, BUT "Some-thing happened alo-ong the way o-o-o-oh, to take away the lo-ove we haaaaad"! That's Earth Wind & Fire for you youngsters :-)). But seriously, when they recently changed the bottle, they changed the entire profile. Three weeks ago I opened my first bottle of the IPA bearing the new label, and it was noticeably different. The hue is darker; the legs longer; the nose half as lively…missing the slight alcohol burn, the fresh cut hay, the hops and citrus notes; the mouth feel is heavier; the entry is flat…missing the sparkle that usually dances on the tongue; and the flavor has lost its fruity notes, presenting a more subdued rum-like character than the lively expression I had come to enjoy. It tastes as though it were left uncapped ... MoreThis WAS my favorite Irish, BUT "Some-thing happened alo-ong the way o-o-o-oh, to take away the lo-ove we haaaaad"! It tastes as though it were left uncapped for several days. I sent most of this same report to Jameson but they have not yet responded. Therefore, though to me it has fallen from a five to a three-star, I must give it only two to balance the raving pre bottle reviews. I will update if I ever hear from Jameson.

Excellent and a crowd pleaser

I have never had any other Jameson before, but the "stout cask" aging intrigued me.This is an incredible Irish blended whiskey. Very sweet and "smooth", with supple flavors of cocoa, almond, toasted (slightly smoky) oak, and hints of honey and white chocolate. It's not super complex - just delicious. If you are looking for something simple yet special to introduce someone to whiskey or for something to celebrate St. Patrick's that nearly everyone will enjoy, THIS IS IT. If you are looking for dryness and/or complexity, not the best option.I'm going to stock up for when I'm craving an Irish whiskey or a sweeter whiskey in general, or one not smoky compared to the peated Scotch malts I usually drink.Bravo, Jameson. I always wrote you off as a mass-market ... MoreI have never had any other Jameson before, but the "stout cask" aging intrigued me.This is an incredible Irish blended whiskey. I don't want to like it this much.

I am not a fan of regular Jameson. I find Jameson thin and metallic. I generally prefer bourbon, with Woodford being a favorite. That said, I find both the Stout and the IPA caskmates to be simple but delicious Whiskies. The IPA fills out the thin flavors of Jameson and the metallic notes are completely lost. There is a hoppy, botanical (almost gin-like) note to this bottle. I find this to be a highly enjoyable whiskey. Maybe not a special occasion bottle (unless any whiskey signifies a celebration to you) but one I can go to time and time again. The stout is also very good but slightly less interesting for me.

Jameson taste with new complexity
9 June 2022

I have to say this is the best variation of the Jameson whisky Jameson has created. It’s still as smooth as Jameson but with some darker chocolate notes that’s great for drinking straight or mixed. Great for seasoned whisky drinkers that need a lighter whisky. Great taste for a great price.

Made a baby!
9 December 2021

My boyfriend and I met and quickly bonded over our love for Jameson! We had been together for about 2 years and I want to say went through at least 3 bottles a week between the 2 of us. Our all time favorite is the Jameson gold, which we only drink on special occasions, and our second favorite is tied between the IPA Caskmates and the Black Barrel! We had been trying to have a baby for about a year and we have pinpointed our baby girls conception a few days after fourth of July when we had started and finished a bottle of Caskmates that evening!! The hardest thing about being pregnant is the fact that I can't drink Jameson, and I told the boyfriend that as soon as Luna is born that is the first drink I want to have!!

To quote Col. Sherman T. Potter, “There’s not enough “O’s” in smooth boys…”. As a fan of stouts and Irish whiskey, this one is an all-time fave. Neat. Rocks. Or ??? It’s all good. It’s a recommendation given to those who want to dip their toe into Irish whiskey’s (or any whiskey for that matter) and are afraid of the “bite”.

Warm, smooth, and crispy

Interesting take on a classic Irish whiskey and a superb addition to the Jameson Caskmate series. Warm and smooth, it carrys crisp hoppy notes from the craft IPA barrels in which it finished. A fruity nose, a toasty palate, and a short finish. “Try it; you’ll like it.”
