Bad design and quality - they will break fast

I bought this headset and at first was very happy. Sound and mic worked very well. However the just broke under a year, at the point where the headphone swivels. This pivot point should NOT be constructed in cheap plastic, it would cost a few cents more to do it in metal, but no.... Its as if they designed it that way (.., hmmm.. planned obsolesence?). JBL, this is unacceptable. You will lose your faithful customers loyalty by doing this.If you are hesitating, dont, they WILL break so avoid JBL 100 and up (200, 300, 400 etc). Or go for a fixed model that does not swivel.

Disappointing

For a headset that claims to be discord certified, it sure gets a lot of complaints from my mates. Constant audio leak out the headset leads to others in call hearing your game through a call or in game voice chat. Feels like a cheap headset. Definitely not worth the price. Had mine for a few months and the left ear has just ceased to function (no it is not a windows driver/ headset driver or audio balancing issue) I was moving USB ports and the left ear just stopped working completely.)

Good headset, especially for the price!

TLDR: Great headset for the price. Deep levels of bass with *very* good surround sound. This headset is great value for money. For under $100 you get a lightweight headset with good sized ear pads that is comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time without your head getting overly hot. When you first plug the headset in via the 3.5mm jack you may be dissatisfied with the sound profile that is outputted from the headset as I was. Fortunately, if you connect the headset via the included 3.5mm to USB connector then you will be pleasantly surprised by the huge increase in sound fidelity and richness that the headset can reach. The amount of bass and surround sound that the headset can produce is really quite impressive for a headset of this price range. The bass isn't too over the top but does a good job of accentuating the surroundings in games.Using the headset to listen to music was a good if not amazing experience. This may be due to my personal preference of a more neutral response so your mileage may vary. The mic is good if not exceptional. There is an obvious "ping" when you move the mic from it's upright to active position to inform the user that the mic is now active. I hated this noise. It sounds cheap and just sounds like a spring is being pinged when the mic reaches a certain position. I would rather a deeper tone was outputted through the headset when the mic is active instead. Using the mic via xbox voice chat I was informed that the mic sounded good and I could be heard properly, however, using the mic in a webex meeting with colleagues had them complaining about the response so I ended up switching to a different input. This may have been software related rather than the headset though as I have had similar issues before.Overall this is a very good headset for the price if you are wanting a lightweight headset mainly for gaming. If you want good surround then I would definitely recommend this headset.

Good starter headset, with a catch
13 September 2021

I had purchased this headset for work use as I work in a call center and found the style of this headset to be more comfortable and audio to be better than the headsets they had provided. I had some setup issues as the software has conflicts with the IP phone software we use, but I found a solution which worked and I was happy with the headset. My first set lasted until days before the 1 year warranty expired. The headset stopped playing audio in one ear unless the wire was wiggled in just the right area below the ear cup. I was provided a warranty claim and received my replacement headset in a couple of weeks... Problem is, the second headset also is malfunctioning... This time, in order to hear audio in both speakers I have to hold the volume control with slight pressure. I am in the process of claiming a second warranty claim now.I have heard great things about JBL in the past and decided this would be an upgrade from the no-name brands I have been using... The audio quality is much better (after fiddling with settings a bit) for music, movies and communication. The mic seems to be clearer than the headset I had to purchase to use as a temporary replacement. The warranty team seems to be good and helpful, I just wish I didn't have to keep emailing them.

Great gaming headset

I’ve been primarily using this with PS4 on Warzone whilst on party chat - the headset is perfect in this context. There’s a very clear separation between voice and in game sound which makes it very easy to discern footsteps / enemy activity whilst maintaining communication throughout. Sound fidelity is strong - it was very noticeable how much I was missing when using speakers vs subtle nuances I could pick up with the headset.Setup couldn’t have been easier - plugged directly into the controller jack the console immediately identified both headset and mic so no connectivity issues or dropouts to speak of. Additionally the onboard controls were extremely simple and intuitive: roller input on the left ear to control volume, mute mic by physically raising the mic ... MoreI’ve been primarily using this with PS4 on Warzone whilst on party chat - the headset is perfect in this context. There’s a very clear separation between voice and in game sound which makes it very easy to discern footsteps / enemy activity whilst maintaining communication throughout. Additionally the onboard controls were extremely simple and intuitive: roller input on the left ear to control volume, mute mic by physically raising the mic appendage until it “clicks”.My only negatives were related to the plastic build which is reasonable for this price bracket and reflected in my rating: broadly comfortable but after 3-4 hours of use they can start to wear on the ear itself - I would advise oversizing to provide some slack. Additionally the plastic headband and cans gives me concerns about longevity so I would advise caution not to drop / sit on them!

Immersive gaming experience

Following the failure of my faithful long serving gaming headset it was time to take the plunge back into the market. I had never owned any JBL equipment before so thought I would give them a try as they were reasonably priced and on the whole I’m very pleased with my purchase. Many people have commented that they feel and look cheap but I disagree I think they have clean simple lines and designed to do the job they are meant for without the distraction of unnecessary gimmicks. The headphones are beautifully light and really comfortable, I had no issue wearing them for long periods of time, the memory foam ear pads are so soft the difference between my last set are worlds apart, the L and R on the inside of the ear pads are a nice touch. I didn’t see anywhere in the description that they are noise cancelling but it certainly seems like they are and blockout external noisesWhen gaming the sound generated by this headset is impressive, I set them up using the Quantum software to surround sound without altering any of the other setting and the impact is so immersive it brings another dimension to the game play. You can hear clearly every detail in the game from footsteps, doors creaking to bullets hitting the floor and everything in between I love it.I have since added a bit more bass to my configuration but I found if I added too much the sound became a little muddy, I wouldn’t say it is an issue just a preference. Now to the bad part, not a huge issue for me as I don’t use team chat much but the microphone is so quiet and I haven’t yet found a way to get the volume level up, I tried using them for a Team meeting but I had to swap them out as people couldn’t hear me. There are many people with the same issue on the internet but to date I haven’t found a resolution, it might be the USB adaptor that comes with the headset, not had much time to investigate fully so it might be something I’m doing wrong but worth noting

Comfort: The earmuffs looked and felt extremely comfortable, but the headstrap looked underpadded, as it is only the very top that is padded and not the sides. I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the headstrap actually was. Even after 6 hours of gaming, it did not hurt my head and you can hardly tell the earmuffs are actually on your head.Audio: The first thing I did with the headphones was listen to music with just the 3.5mm jack. The sound quality was less than great and missing depth. Then I connected the USB adapter to the headphones and listen to music. I wanted to test the audio quality of just the headphones alone, so tried them out with the USB and no Quantum Engine. They sounded the same as if they are just plugged in with the 3.5mm jack. When you download the Quantum Engine and set it up and turn spatial sound on is when they turn into the best headphones I have ever owned. I tried this headset playing a racing simulation game and it is very immersive and you can tell exactly where other cars are positioned near you from sound alone. Also, I tried them out on a First Person Shooter and the footsteps are accurately portrayed and clear.Microphone: The Mic quality is nothing special but very clear.Misc: It is extremely convenient when you plug the USB into a computer and it pops up a window asking if you want to download the Quantum Engine instead of going to their website and looking for a download link. It has a long cord when plugged into USB adaptor.

Poor build quality
5 July 2023

When purchasing a pair of gaming headphones I was expecting something that can take some heavy use and is comfortable. The JBL headphones only fill one of those boxes. The cushioning for the ears and head are excellent but the durability was not up to par. After having this headset for just over a year, the swivel part that connects the speaker to the headrest broke. So the best solution was to tape it and hope for the best. It lasted another couple months before the right speaker stopped working. Other than the build quality, the microphone had crisp, clear audio and the speakers weren’t distorted and had great stereo sound. I did like that the cord was covered in a mesh.

Sound Quality Great, build Quality not so much.
22 March 2022

Sound Quality on this head set is great. Sound pick up on the mic is excellent. Very comfortable for long hours of use. Especially love the mute feature. There is a big of an annoyance of a rubbing noise that can be heard from the braided USB C and/or audio cable.Build quality not so good. After an average use of 3 months, and approximately 8+ hours every day (not including weekends and holidays) headset breaks on the plastic hinges. After first replacement, I tried reinforcing the hinges, only broke further down closer to the ear muffs. Replacement pair also broke after three months of use. Didn't bother going through the hassle of replacement, went straight to the trash.

This turned out to be a customizable app for the headphones, how cool.First impression of the headphones were how light they were, but being all plastic except for the pads of course, I am not sure on the long run durability. However, they fit on the head comfortably and gave it my two plus hour of test drive with no issues of comfort or fatigue.Went back to games I already knew such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare and after going through a few levels I was surprisied at the sonic level that these headphones provided. The game recognized the headphones as 5.1 so no reconfiguring there. There was enough bass to make the impacts real but not overpowering the open and spacious sound. The background radio tranmissions could be heard clearly even when the action got busy. Gun fire while not in your face provides clarity and when gun fire erupted in a tunnel or room the reverberation sounded terrific.Positioning was verygood and when jets flew over you knew where they were coming from and going to.ONE big thing that was killer was incuding an analog volume control on the headphones. How many times have you started a game where the volume was too low or too high? Perfect solution.Where others missed JBL got this right. The software, the clarity, the sound immersion, and the cost of admission makes this a terrific value.
