What a great piece!Over the years we have shopped repeatedly with AMS and tried several different brands of mic stands and boom standsK&M blew them all away by miles!Although heavy, it’s foldability makes it easy to transport and the fittings are all very durable and trustworthy when suspending an investment like a nice mic!!We will be buying more

Don't keep it in a hot car!!

I got this stand after the original I ordered from Musicians Friend stopped working right. Kudos to MF for good service because K&M has a lifetime warranty but they wouldn't respond to MF or me and MF ate the cost and sent me another!! But, the problem with the replacement MF sent me (and the original) is that shortly after leaving it in my car for a week or 2, the boom can't be tightend down enough to hold it in place. (I use it fully extended with a mic boomed out since I play drums and sing.) Before the issue, the boom worked GREAT and didn't even need to be tightened much (as expected). But after it starts happening, the mic slowly droops down over several minutes and I can't play like that obviously. FYI, it seems to be related to the fact that the boom joint uses rubber bushings rather than a mechanical tooth in gear approach. But, I took them off and looked at them and they look and feel fine (like, not melted, LOL). So, I can't explain it.

Excellent quality stand at this price point

Great choice for my first mic stand. Strong metal construction-- nothing bends or breaks with tightening. This stand confidently supports my AKG C414s at full arm extension, no problem.For an entry-level tripod-and-boom mic stand, you absolutely get what you pay for, possibly more. Much better to spend a few dollars more on this K&M and have it last a long time than to replace something cheap. There are probably many stands for the same price that are not as sturdy and well-built.I'd like to have an overhead stand with even more reach than a boom, but at this price I am satisfied! Have fun with this one.

Excellent. Stable, easy to tighten.

Except for extremely expensive studio microphone stands, this is the best microphone stand I have used. It is superior to those I have purchased that are almost half again more at MF. The stand is a little heavy, but that is important for stability. The tightening hardware on the main knob has a long extension, so it is easy to securely tightened the main arm.

K&M Mic Stands Are Live!

I used this mic stand for the first time recently and it works great for live performances. It's light enough so that I can move it around fluidly, but also solidly built so it never feels rickety.

The Neumann of Stands

Of course, just like it's friends, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Neumann, WMF, Gillette, Schaller, and Audi; it holds that "German" feel. Yes, I do admit overall, it is pricey. If you have the money, I would easily recommend this, or the model down. It does feel solid, and while fairly common, the detachable head is nice if you got one of those fat mics that like to sit upright; it goes pretty tall, and the telescoping arm is as you would normally find among most other stands. One time I had to borrow a mic from a friend, it had a shockmount but lacked a connector for a stand. The knob for the arm perfectly fit the hole where the adaptor would attach (I would 100% not reccomend this though). Well....

At this price I (reasonably) expected this stand to be solid as a rock. Unfortunately it's not. I purchased this as a be-all-end-all stand to use for live shows. I use a very large pedalboard for my guitar rig, and typically have to extend the boom arm to its maximum length. This stand is less prone to the "tipping-over" problem that I have always experienced with bargain stands, but it still has some wobble where the base connects to the main rise shaft. Also, the boom barely extends far enough for my application. Maybe I should have gotten a solid boom instead of a telescoping model. There is no sag in the stand so far, so no complaints there, I just hoped for no sway at the base. I'll try Atlas or DR next time around. Still a vast improvement over the cheapo stuff.

Worth the extra coin

When you're playing an instrument, singing, wondering about the volume, overall sound, if you'll get paid, how drunk you're bandmates are etc. It's good piece of mind knowing that at the very least you won't have to chase a droopy mic and adjust between strums. On my last gig I found this unit to be very sturdy with a nice heavy base. I can see this lasting quite a while. I would buy the exact same stand if this one were lost or stolen. Very sturdy.

Wow

Just wow. I've owned several Mic stands of the cheaper price range and the difference between this one and those is ridiculous. Fat more and the contact points actually hold. With my condensor Mic and pop guard both on the boom, the angle does not fall one but over night as the cheap ones would have succumbed. Yes, the k is much heavier, but you can tell this is a big part of what makes it more stable. Expensive? Yes. But I assure you, worth it.

I needed a really good stand this time and after reading the reviews I bought this one and it is great. First of all, it's built really strong. From the tripod legs to the adjustment clutch, it's well made. But what really shines is the boom itself. Ever had a boom in the middle of a performance start to lose its grip and start drooping and there you are bending your knees and going down with it. Or have you ever had a stand that the tightening adjustment was plastic and you felt if you really cranked on it, it would break, or did? That will not happen either with this stand. Nothing sags.I also like how the boom is adjustable a couple of ways. You can move the boom in closer and back out if you want, but what's extra nice is the boom has a secondary adjustment at the part closest to you (where you would place the mic holder). So you can change the overall length of the boom and get it just the way you want.Overall a very nice boom stand and well made and engineered.
