Kamado Joe - Big Block XL Lump Charcoal
Description Kamado Joe excels in providing the essential grilling accessories to enhance your backyard BBQ experience. The Big Block charcoal is made from heavy, large pieces hardwood so it burns slower and longer. This 20 pound bag of 100 percent natural lump charcoal is made from a blend of hardwood trees, adding a signature charcoal flavor to food grilled and smoked on your ceramic Kamado grill. Kamado Joe lump charcoal burns hotter and longer, allowing you to cook at temperatures above 750 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is ideal for steakhouse-style searing, giving ribeyes and other steaks that signature sizzle off the grill. This charcoal can also be reused by simply adding a small amount of fresh charcoal to the existing charcoal, making it an efficient fuel for your kamado grill. Kamado Joe 100 percent natural lump charcoal is the choice of professional and competition chefs around the world. Make sure to never use lighter fluid or petroleum-based combustible fluids with the charcoal in your ceramic Kamado grill, as the ceramics will absorb the liquid and add an undesirable taste to your food. 9.07KG of 100 percent natural lump charcoal. Made from a blend of hardwood trees. Able to obtain the high temperatures needed for steakhouse-style searing. Natural lump charcoal burns cleaner, hotter and longer than standard charcoal. Big block chunks of charcoal burn slower and longer than regular natural lump.

The Kamado Joe XL charcoal I ordered online came into the store after two weeks, longer than I was expecting. The charcoal bag contained very few large blocks and, toward the bottom of the bag, had a large amount off charcoal ‘dust’ and tiny pieces that cannot be used in a smoker/bbq.The purchase price was right but the bottom of bag wastage made it more expensive.I bought two bags at the same time so I will be evaluating the wisdom of my purchase after finishing the second bag.

Not every bag is consistent in lump size. The lumps in most bags of this charcoal vary from gargantuan to tiny. Occasionally there are very few giant and gargantuan lumps in a bag. Often the very largest chunks are too big to be suitable for what I am grilling so I keep a hatchet handy to knock them down to merely giant size. Even knocked down to giant size they are often quite a bit larger than in other brands of lump charcoal. (I'm looking at you, Cowboy)Every bag always has settlement of the smallest charcoal bits to the bottom. This is not unique to this brand. Only the gargantuan and giant lumps will be on the top of the heap inside the bag so you must dig around some inside the bag to create good mix of large, medium, and small chunks for a long burning fire ... MoreNot every bag is consistent in lump size. The smallest pieces will light quickly and they in turn kindle the medium and large chunks which then burn hot and long. Use a chimney starter for easy results. If you don't do this and only use large chunks your fire will be slow to start and then, if the lumps aren't stacked just right, -- which they won't be if you dump them out of a chimney starter -- it will never get really hot. I learned this the hard way over several bags of this brand. If you are of the mindset that you are not bothered by the little bit of extra effort required to make your fire "just right" you will love this charcoal. Get yourself some disposable kitchen gloves for handling the job of sorting chunks and rooting through the bag. If you just want to put your charcoal into your grill and light it you may find the extra effort annoying which is why I only gave it four stars.

I've bought 2 bags of kamado xl lump charcoal and both bags were full of small pieces. They both also had trash in them. They both had some sort of plastic pieces which looked like it might be mylar or something. The first bag had a half soda can and the second had some sort of clay like rocks. My coal chimney burns down halfway before it's ready. Maybe I've just had bad luck two times in a row but I will never buy it again

We ordered our Kamado Joe 2 pack of lump charcoal through the website. It came quick and easy. I have tried other charcoals and other highly rated lump charcoal. None compare to the Kamado Joe lump charcoal. It burn hot and stays hot. Can adjust temperature with airflow on my Kamado Joe Classic II. No fluctuations and no drop off in temperature. Makes grilling a blast.
Kamado Joe Big Block XL Lump Charcoal is exceptional, featuring large, dense chunks that burn hot and clean. Unlike other brands, it’s free of small, junk pieces, ensuring a consistent burn. It lights quickly, delivering long-lasting heat that enhances the flavor of your food. Ideal for serious grillers.
Just introduced to Charcoal Grilling, decided to get two sets of this product. Easy to open, pull the string, poor into my new Konnect Joe without getting my hands dirty and ready for another clean burning session. Very little "bad" white smoke and stays at a steady burn level even with drippings. Chunks are a nice size giving great air circulation and burn evenly. Used two bags worth without small chunks or dust buildup at the bottom. Don't even need to add additional "special" wood, as it has a great taste of its own.
I have purchased and used many other charcoal brand products that were suggested to me from friends. The end results is that they don't perform like the Kamado Joe Big Block XL Lump Charcoal. Do not waste your precious time while smoking/grilling and worrying about if the charcoal has stalled or you cannot achieve the correct temperature and you need to start all over again. Do not get frustrated anymore, I use what is proven and works best! Kamadoe Joe Big Block XL Lump Charcoal
I've tried different lump charcoal, starting with Royal Oak. Problem with those are you get a few big chunks but a lot of little pieces as well. The Big Block XL is great because they won't fall through the grates until they are ash. They are also easier to snuff out and reuse when you close off the ventillation, as compared to the smaller materials.
I used to swear by another major brand until I tried a bag of these ...now I don't want to use anything else. The chunks are consistently large and there is much less wasted tiny pieces than most brands. And the flavor is the biggest reason to try a bag of this charcoal. They definitely nail it there. I think they've checked all the boxes and once you try a bag you'll forget all about your other favorite brands and change over to these too.
I knew KJ Big Block was good lump charcoal, but I cook on my KJ Classic a lot, and I go through some lump. So I have had the opportunity to compare a lot of brands. I've used Royal Oak, Kingsford, Jealous Devil, and several other brands. After trying them all, I have become a loyal KJ Big Block user. It's just better - bigger, denser lumps that burn longer and cleaner. It lights easily and stays lit. It just works.
