Wow, After having so many blues, it's hard for a blue ink to impress me. This one does. I put it in my broad nib and it has great flow, good shading, and a bit of red sheen. It's neither too dark or too light, but a perfect shade and saturation for a standard blue.I've also found that the Kaweco cartridges hold up well if you like to refill them with a syringe. If that also matters to you, these are a good choice.

Beautiful almost gray shade, cool and not flashy. Very little variation with thick and thin spots (there must be a name for this). I have only really used it with Fine and Medium nibs. It will stay in my rotation, but there are so many inks out there! I definitely prefer it to the Kaweco Royal Blue, that one's too light and the Midnight Blue seems more "formal" somehow.

Make sure to give your pen an adequate amount of time to dry before installing these cartridges. I made the same mistake as several others and for the first week or so the pen felt unusable because the lines were so light and transparent. Once the water finally got out of the nib and feed, the ink settled in and became a beautiful dark blue just like the picture. It’s a lovely color and definitely one I’d recommend.

What can I say about this Kaweco Royal Blue Ink? It has a stunning brilliance. The color saturation is rich and on the paper it is a fantastic color to use. I have every color Kaweco makes and some, at times, seem to be a nice change. But before one cartridge is complete, I want to return to Royal Blue. Creature of habit? Perhaps. But simply stated: Kaweco Royal Blue Ink looks magnificent on paper.

Satisfactory. Unremarkable generic hue, as though Kaweco is trying to please everyone and missing the mark. No real complaint. I just really prefer converter options in a purple--so many variations. Performs well for the ordinary writing on decent paper which I do. And, of course, very convenient.

Excellent German-made fountain pen ink cartridges! (KAWECO fountain pen ink cartridges) Midnight ...

Kaweco is a celebrated German brand. I love their fountain pens and inks. Thus, I ordered this one.I like bottled inks better, particularly for their longer shelf-life. Compared to them, the cartridges are short-lasting. But they are handy, travel-friendly, and simple enough to change. Since I travel frequently and carry fountain pens, I observed that cartridges work better than inked pens. You can also carry extra cartridges for your quick refills. The delivery was on time; the packaging was professional. These are standard international cartridges that fit most international fountain pens! The ink quality, as expected, is very fine and flawless. I hope this info helps you to decide on your future orders.

It's a blue-black
3 March 2021

I bought these cartridges to send out as samples or for swapping inks with friends; it’s a lot easier to send these in the mail and avoid ink spillage.I was expecting this colour to be more red-leaning, but it is more of a neutral blue-black, or perhaps even grey-leaning, depending on the paper. I like it best on white paper. It does not lean red like my preferred CdA Magnetic Blue, Pilot Iroshizuku Shin Kai or Diamine Midnight. It’s similar to Aurora Blue-Black. The Platinum Blue-Black that came with the Preppy is a lot bluer than this Kaweco ink, and the Diamine Chopin from the Music Collection is greyer. With my pen and paper combos, the ink dries to a flat or matte finish. I’ve observed no feathering, no bleedthrough, little ghosting, no hard starts, skipping or nib dry-out. It cleans out easily from converters.I’m glad I tried this ink and got to compare it to other inks in the same colour category. It’s a solid performer, but I just prefer other blue-blacks.

Very nice Royal Blue
1 March 2021

I bought these cartridges to send out as samples or for swapping inks with friends; it’s a lot easier to send these in the mail and avoid ink spillage. The ink is a very lovely hue of Royal Blue, similar to Diamine Sapphire Blue and J. Herbin Éclat de Saphir; it definitely leans red compared to GvFC Royal Blue and CdA Idyllic Blue. S.T.Dupont Royal Blue, Waterman Florida/Serenity and Röhrer & Klingner Königsblau are bluer while Montblanc Royal Blue is redder. The ink has average flow, offers some shading and dries quickly. I’ve observed red sheen in wet pens, regardless of the nib width or grind, which becomes very evident in large saturated areas where the ink pools in heavy application. My dry Sailor 1911S 21 kt H-M and this ink don’t play very well though; it ... MoreI bought these cartridges to send out as samples or for swapping inks with friends; it’s a lot easier to send these in the mail and avoid ink spillage. The ink is a very lovely hue of Royal Blue, similar to Diamine Sapphire Blue and J. It does better in wetter pens, where I can achieve a nicely saturated dark line with a 21 kt H-MF nib. No matter which nib I use, I obtain crisp and contained lines. I’ve not seen it feather or bleed on any of my Japanese papers, Rhodia DotPad or Clairefontaine Triomphe; I like the colour best on white paper. YMMV, as these observations are based on pen and paper combos.

Works well, but is a little light.
3 October 2023

Tried one of these cartridges in my Perkeo but could hardly read the words and that was on Rhodia paper. Siphoned the ink out of that cartridge after I removed it and another one also and put it in a sample phial. Tried the ink in my Noodler's Ahab today and it was much more vivid. But on cheap paper! Tried it on Rhodia later and was much, much better. Perhaps I just had a problem with the first cartridge? Anyway it IS a nice color, ink. Just a little lighter than Diamine Havasu Turquoise.

the BEST Kaweco ink
1 August 2024

This is by far my favorite of the Kaweco inks. I journal daily, and I tried the sampler pack of all the different colors before committing to Midnight Blue. The color is more of a deep gray than a blue (in my opinion), but I like it for that. Its neutrality makes it go with everything else on a page, but it isn't as stark as a black ink. It just feels gentler! If you're looking for a true blue, I'd steer you toward the Royal Blue instead. Midnight Blue ink in particular is a bit lighter in flow, so it seems like the ink lasts longer than the other colors. I love it!
