However, it did start to separate after awhile so I’d used a little spatula from a previous product to mix it when this happened and the product was just as effective. Since it’s thick, it doesn’t apply as easy as lighter eye creams. You can’t just smear it under your eye or it will tug at the skin and not spread as far. For application I either put three little dots under my eye and tap it in that way or warm it up between my fingers and then tap it under my eye to apply it. Yes, it takes a little getting used to, but the results are unmatched. Previously, I’ve used both YTP eye creams, ole Heinekens, glow recipe retinol, Estée Lauder advanced repair, and none beat this Kiehl’s product. I’m not even a huge fan of Kiehls, this is their only product that I’ve purchased and will continue to purchase. Ofncourse it’d be nice if it was easier to apply and not separate but the results are amazing so 10/10 recommend.

But I've now received TWO separate containers of this product where the contents were 90% liquid. I don't mean that the product was somehow 'thinner' or that maybe the formula was changed. I have mixed feelings about this eye cream. Firstly the texture is so thick and heavy however once patted into my dehydrated dry skin it does absorb ok and gives a smooth contour for makeup application once I wait a few minutes before applying. I think for an oilier or non dry skin it would just sit in a thick layer and you only need to use a small amount. For me it’s more like a barrier cream to sit on top of the skin and seal everything in. Overnight it leaves my eye area puffy even if applied after a retinol cream. It does state it will not migrate into eyes which is true as it’s such a thick cream it won’t move! I am wary of using it too frequently as it think it would cause milia. I often see this recommended for younger skin but personally I think its much too heavy and rich better suited to a very dry or mature skin or if you really benefit from using a nourishing barrier cream. I get my replacement and the entire container is fully liquid. There is obviously a lack of quality control and the formulation is completely off. I've recently read, to my dismay, that eye cream are allegedly "glorified" moisturizers meaning that any face moisturizers can be used around the eye area and therefore a specific eye cream is not needed. HOWEVER, this is definitely not the case for this product! I adore the Kiehl's avocado eye cream and I will keep buying it. It's different from any other eye product tried so far: rich and heavy but in an extremely good way, it restores completely the thin skin layer covering the orbital bone. It's nourishing (I suggest usinh in the PM routine) and you can almost feel the good it does. In the morning the eyes area is well hydrated, fresh and younger looking. It does not have any added shimmer, like some eye creams for cosmetic brightening. Overall, a nice product that’s a pleasure to use and a great value for the price and amount you receive. I have discovered that many eye creams do indeed burn my sensitive eyes---but not this one. :-) I give it FIVE STARS!
this is a very unique product for two reasons: 1) it has mica in it which makes it look like your skin has little golden flakes or glitter on it. 2) it's a serum but they say this is meant to be applied AFTER moisturizer and spf. I've never used a serum that was meant to be applied after spf but it's supposed to be a makeup primer.
