Kilner Genuine Preserve Jar 1 Litre

I bought lids for fermentingpickles that fit wide mouth jars. I found out these were the wrong size mouth after unpacking and washing everything so wont be able to return. The jars are otherwise nice and fit for purpose. Information should be clearer on what type of lid is required.

Whilst these jars are sturdy and the lids havent rusted yet, there is no way these are 1 litre capacity, even when full to the brim and why would anyone do that. Ive measured it with my professional measuring jugs. Under 1 litre goes in to the brim. A true capacity measurement should be a litre plus a bit of room. Misleading description and therefore not quite up to what I needed them for. Why cant companies actually measure their products capacity to ensure correct advertising Very frustrating.

A great Kilmer jar

Great Kilmer jar that is dishwasher proof! Bought it for keeping a sourdough starter. It did the job fine but I think I’d be better with a wider neck jar. This won’t go to waste if I change its use though as it’s a handy size and will be great for dry ingredients as well as preserves.

Dangerous, do not use as preserve jar

Purchased 2 of these from the Fenton store, buying into both Dunelm and the Kilner name as a mark of quality supplier and product. Used this morning for the first time, but the jar just burst when filled with hot water to sterilise prior to filling. Clearly poor quality item and badly annealed glass. Not trustworthy or safe.

Exploded

I was just putting my pickled onions in this and it exploded in my hands. I have quite a few of this brand and this hasn't happened before but I will now have second thoughts about buying more. I am gutted as this was brand new what a waste

Fabulous

Perfect size and the double piece lid is great- creates a good seal but you also have the choice to remove the middle and replace with cheesecloth if you're making something that needs to breathe. Some of the other reviews on here are ridiculous, people thinking the lid is broken. No, the lid is not broken, it is a two part lid. And a good one at that.

Great jar for preserving tomatoes

Great jar for preserving chunked tomatoes! The mouth is a little bit small so it is a bit inconvenient to fill in. The automatic air seal worked extremely well. It should last for years if using carefully,

Great solution for preserving fruit

A good quality product. Simple but works well. The instructions given for sterilising the jar are somewhat limiting - other sites suggest a microwave method which would use much less energy than the water bath method suggested in the product instructions.

Poor quality

The price of these jars are half of what;s on the official Kilner website, however, after inspecting, one jar had black speckles dotted around in the glass, the other one had a scratched lid and the last one had a wonky lid. This is not Kilner quality, never buying from Dunelm again, only from official Kilner website.
