Klymit Static V - Green Sleeping Pad

I got this specifically for backpacking, but the first use was at a weekend music festival. I was thoroughly relieved when I laid down and was actually comfortable. I'd had inflatable pads before that have been alright, but this was the first pad that actually felt supportive (even when I was on my side). I would recommend it to anybody looking for something that works and doesn't break the bank. The only thing I will say is that it may not have the highest r-value. I have not used the insulated version, so I cannot compare. I will be testing this product more comprehensively during this backpacking season and am excited to do so.

The Klymit Static V masters the perfect equation of weight, comfort and cost. While not a high R-value, I found this to be a perfect size and warmth for high desert spring and summer backpacking treks. I coupled it with the Klymit quilted sheet for some added warmth when night temps were lower than 50. I am 5’6” and 130lbs and found the size and thickness to be more than decent. Im a side sleeper, and usually my hips are very sore after consecutive sleeping pad nights, so ill sometimes couple this with a closed cell pad underneath. While this might be a little overboard, I got legitimately great sleep with the two combined. Worth the extra pound to me for longer trips. The very best thing it has going for it is it has held up to sleeping with dogs in the tent -- two big dogs who are always trying to climb on my side of the tent. I had purchased a MUCH more expensive pad that popped on the second night of a trip as soon as my dog walked over it, so I replaced it with a cheaper one, figuring if it didn't last very long, at least I wasn't out a lot of money. But boy howdy have I gotten my money's worth out of this thing! It's the same weight as the super expensive ones AND it holds up. It's also not as noisy as some of the high-end pads. I mean, It's not silent (good luck finding one that it), but much quieter than the pads of some people I've camped with. Like most air pads, it is best if used with a dual pad system; I pair with a 3/4 Z-Rest underneath. I don't know why people expect any air pad to be enough on it's own -- at least one lightweight and small enough for backpacking. (Our car camping pads are delux, but they are also giant and heavy.) The dual system is where it's at, and many pro guides, who I image try out a lot of gear, use this system. I did notice on a recent trip that I have to add a bit more air each night, so it may have developed the teeniest leak, but that's no biggie, especially after all the abuse I've put it through. Overall this had been a great purchase!
