We have a tough chewer in our house, and so when Chewy had their Black Friday sale I thought it would be a great time to get a couple of the Kong Extreme toys. Both toys do not seem as good of quality as usual for Kong Extreme. They dental one had frayed edges of rubber from manufacturing, and the rubber quality seems poor compared to previous Kong extreme purchases. The large tire is also pretty small, so I would not recommend for a bigger dog. I am a bit disappointed as I am worried about the longevity of these toys due to diminished quality

When I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. I checked online to make sure I got the right size and I did. My girl love this thing!!! It was the perfect size for her mouth. She's about 50 lb, a shorty, an itty bitty pittie power chewer. She's had this for two or three weeks and she's not even put a dent in it. She brings it to me while I'm working from home and I put a treat or two in it and she carries it off. Cleans the treats out and brings it back again. Sometimes I spray some foam whip down in the grooves and that keeps her busy a while. This is one of the best toys I've ever bought for her. It's extremely durable. And she's using it in creative ways. She throws it and catches it she tosses it to me and she uses it ... MoreWhen I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. Even if you have a power chewer. Hannah has shredded some of the most durable toys on the market made for power chewers. I expect this one to hold up for a long long time.

I can chew up anything in minutes. Anything. No toy survives my jaws. And I love to catch flying toys. Frisbees, balls, flying squirrel type toys. I EVEN SHREDDED A FEW BARRETT BALLS. I shred them all. Except for these little king tires for some reason gave me chewing, bouncing fun. I take them to my Dad and make him throw them in the air for me to jump and catch. Then if they do hit the ground they bounce in a random way that has me zig zagging all over and I love it. These are now my favorite toys. I will not share the 2 that Mom bought with my brother Duke and sister Abbie. Both are mine. So Mom will be buying more. Mom has not put treats in this toy because we have black extreme kongs for that. Treat kongs are for inside. This is for mud, the pond and the pool, ... MoreI can chew up anything in minutes. I have an extreme chewer (90 pound APBT, 1.5 years old) and so far the only thing that he hasn't managed to take a chunk out of is the standard KONG extreme. I knew as soon as I took it out of the box that it was gonna be history lol... He certainly loved it tho, for the short time he had it. He was beside himself, honestly. I'm still picking up black chunks of rubber from the carpet though, and wishing there was a solid version for the big guns.I would recommend this toy, but NOT for extreme chewers. I say this is for "medium" range chewers, not heavyweights like my boy. Thankfully it was a BOGO item for Black Friday - I was buying a KONG tug-of-war to replace the rope toy he destroyed, in seconds, on his Tether Tug lol...
Our first extreme tire lasted about 4 months. Our pup was just about a year old and this was his favorite toy so we got another when he was about 16 months. He had the new one less than 10 minutes and he started ripping chunks off. We removed it and he moved on to the first one which was showing no signed of damage but in 5 minutes he was ripping hunks off that one too. So in 15 minutes he destroyed 2 of these things. We have had similar experience with the other "extreme" Kong toys. He loves them but they do not hold up to the young jaws of a Shepard Lab mix
My Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). However, trying to find a toy that would last longer than 5 minutes with him was surprisingly challenging. And, yes, that included toys rated “extreme chewers.” I just happen to run into a man while I was at the vet, who suggested I try the Kong Tire, which worked for his Husky. Yes, the tire may seem smaller than you would expect a size large to be, but it holds up amazingly well. My dobie literally chews on it for extended periods literally every single day, and it typically lasts him about a year before it begins to show any signs of wear (as in a single small puncture in the sidewall of the tire). So I was just reordering him his next tire for Christmas (for the 8th ... MoreMy Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). This is, hands down, our dogs favorite toy. He carries it around, we play fetch with it, lots of tug of war. I have literally dragged him around the house with it. It's been over a year and it's still going strong even though hes an 80 lb lab who has a STRONG mouth and has torn through any other so-called "tough chewer" products. In fact, this purchase was actually a second backup one just in case the first one gets lost or finally does break. We wanted a backup with how long it has lasted. We cannot recommend it enough for dogs that are extremely tough chewers and in terms of flexibility of a toy.
Our GSD is a working line very aggressive, almost obsessive, chewer. We have bought similar tire toys and seemed to be high quality that he destroyed in a matter of minutes. We’ve had this one a few weeks now and it’s still complete. We also have the Kong extreme black rubber bone that it actually took him over a year to finally get to where it needed replaced. Once he finds a weakness, it’s his life mission to destroy that particular item. It is smaller than I expected, but not dangerously so. I just wish it was a little bigger for our 100 pound shepherd.
My dog lives to shred rubber toys. She's demolished more toys than I can count in the year I've had her. I got this tire when it was cheap on sale expecting it to maybe last a half hour (how long it took her to cut a medium Kong Extreme Bone in half). It amazingly survived her chewing and is still in one piece almost a month later! She mostly just wants to pick at the "treads" on the sides, which is probably why it's not in pieces. It's made with VERY THIN rubber, so wouldn't take long to slice through if she put it between her molars like she did with the bone. I also really wish they would make this in a larger size. This is barely big enough for my 60lb pittie mix, definitely not suitable for any larger dog. Sort-of recommended, but not for power chewers or large ... MoreMy dog lives to shred rubber toys. If you have a large and/or super-chewing dog, try the large Kong Extreme Ball or Goodie Ribbon, Goughnuts or WoofBite brand toys, or the large West Paw Jive ball instead.
If you have a super chewer who destroys Extreme (black) Kongs I would still give this tire a try. Our superchewer LOVES this thing and I have not had to throw it away after 1 year+ of play. Its fun to throw, tug, and fill with treats. I have a 2 year old corgi and she loves to herd donut/tire shaped things, so I catch her herding this every once in a while. I even sometimes shove a Chuck it ball in the middle and watch her problem solve to get it out. HIGHLY recommend this, even if you have a Kong destroyer on your hands.
