We have a tough chewer in our house, and so when Chewy had their Black Friday sale I thought it would be a great time to get a couple of the Kong Extreme toys. Both toys do not seem as good of quality as usual for Kong Extreme. They dental one had frayed edges of rubber from manufacturing, and the rubber quality seems poor compared to previous Kong extreme purchases. The large tire is also pretty small, so I would not recommend for a bigger dog. I am a bit disappointed as I am worried about the longevity of these toys due to diminished quality

For the past 4 years, the indestructible black kongs have been a reliable and safe choice for my super chewers. This is the only black kong design that has let us down. Recently purchased this design and one other. Within 15 minutes, parts of this kong were removed and ingested by my 4 year old. The other new black kong we got, has been chewed on for hours, and it still looks brand new.

So far, so good. Typically my pup destroys all toys in a 5-30 minutes--soft toys (even ones with sturdy ropes instead of stuffing), nylon toys, balls, ropes, and even other hard rubber type toys. However, after a week her Tire toy is still her toy of choice and in great condition. My pup especially seems interested in the tire rolling and bouncing in an unpredictable way when I play with her. For others with the same problem, I have not used it for treats because it is so successful as a toy I don't want to risk losing it. I use the black Extreme Kong (like the red one) for stuffing treats for that which keeps her busy for a relatively long time, and then I take it away to reduce extra chewing.

When I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. I checked online to make sure I got the right size and I did. My girl love this thing!!! It was the perfect size for her mouth. She's about 50 lb, a shorty, an itty bitty pittie power chewer. She's had this for two or three weeks and she's not even put a dent in it. She brings it to me while I'm working from home and I put a treat or two in it and she carries it off. Cleans the treats out and brings it back again. Sometimes I spray some foam whip down in the grooves and that keeps her busy a while. This is one of the best toys I've ever bought for her. It's extremely durable. And she's using it in creative ways. She throws it and catches it she tosses it to me and she uses it ... MoreWhen I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. Even if you have a power chewer. Hannah has shredded some of the most durable toys on the market made for power chewers. I expect this one to hold up for a long long time.
In the description for the Kong Tire it says, "Tire shaped toy made of durable KONG Extreme Rubber for determined chewers." I recommend this item for dogs that are not extreme power chewers. Or dogs that aren't as determined to destroy the toy. Since it's by Kong, I thought it might hold up as well as the traditional Kong toys, but sadly it has gone to the toy graveyard. Don't get me wrong, my dog loved it, the chewing of it, and the destroying of it. We had to take it away from her when she kept tearing pieces off. Also to warn, unlike the traditional Kong toys, this one has an aroma as if it was made from an actual tire. Our dog brought the tire into our office and it took a while to figure out what the weird smell was that seemed to pervade throughout the room. ... If you touch the tire, you also need to wash your hands after - it's THAT strong. The Kong Tire we got was the Extreme for medium to large dogs.
My Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). However, trying to find a toy that would last longer than 5 minutes with him was surprisingly challenging. And, yes, that included toys rated “extreme chewers.” I just happen to run into a man while I was at the vet, who suggested I try the Kong Tire, which worked for his Husky. Yes, the tire may seem smaller than you would expect a size large to be, but it holds up amazingly well. My dobie literally chews on it for extended periods literally every single day, and it typically lasts him about a year before it begins to show any signs of wear (as in a single small puncture in the sidewall of the tire). So I was just reordering him his next tire for Christmas (for the 8th ... MoreMy Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). This is, hands down, our dogs favorite toy. He carries it around, we play fetch with it, lots of tug of war. I have literally dragged him around the house with it. It's been over a year and it's still going strong even though hes an 80 lb lab who has a STRONG mouth and has torn through any other so-called "tough chewer" products. In fact, this purchase was actually a second backup one just in case the first one gets lost or finally does break. We wanted a backup with how long it has lasted. We cannot recommend it enough for dogs that are extremely tough chewers and in terms of flexibility of a toy.
5 days…that’s how long it took for my “champion chewer” to overcome this particular tire toy. I love KONG brand, and other toys have stood up well against the Jaws of Life I have in my house. This one doesn’t make the cut. If you want a great tire toy, I highly recommend the Mammoth Tirebiter II. Much more durable than this one.
My dog lives to shred rubber toys. She's demolished more toys than I can count in the year I've had her. I got this tire when it was cheap on sale expecting it to maybe last a half hour (how long it took her to cut a medium Kong Extreme Bone in half). It amazingly survived her chewing and is still in one piece almost a month later! She mostly just wants to pick at the "treads" on the sides, which is probably why it's not in pieces. It's made with VERY THIN rubber, so wouldn't take long to slice through if she put it between her molars like she did with the bone. I also really wish they would make this in a larger size. This is barely big enough for my 60lb pittie mix, definitely not suitable for any larger dog. Sort-of recommended, but not for power chewers or large ... MoreMy dog lives to shred rubber toys. If you have a large and/or super-chewing dog, try the large Kong Extreme Ball or Goodie Ribbon, Goughnuts or WoofBite brand toys, or the large West Paw Jive ball instead.
My dog, Leo, has had this toy for a super long time now. He has chewed through multiple Kong extreme tough bones and the classic extreme tough Kong. He chews through pretty much everything in time but he hasn’t chewed through this toy. It’s insane. Boggles my mind since it isn’t that thick. Kong managed to use the flexibility of the material and the toughness to make a perfect toy for tough chewers. However, I am not a dog toy researcher so don’t take my word.Leo also loves to play tug of war with the toy since he can get a good grip with his mouth. He is a 50 pound GSP with bounds of energy and drags me around the house while I hold the tire. This brings up the one negative of this toy. It is small for a large toy. I was immediately shocked by the size of the toy ... MoreMy dog, Leo, has had this toy for a super long time now.
