Kuhl Renegade Rock are as close to a perfect climbing pant as anything since Outdoor Research Wadi Rums. After the latter got a horrible redesign and the last of my three original pairs wore through, I was on the hunt for a replacement for some time. What I liked about the original Wadi Rums was their lightness, slim profile, and unmatched durability. I wore them from crag to gym to workshop and most social activities in between. Now, the Wadi Rums were predominantly cotton, so I was initially a bit skeptical if the fully synthetic blend in Renegade Rock pants could live up to the comfort. And while I definitely still prefer the drape, feel, and silence of cotton to Kuhl's proprietary synthetic material, it comes pretty dark close. More than that, the tapered fit is perfect in a world dominated by baggy straight styles. There seems to be an opinion out there that slimmer outdoor styles are solely for the Instagram weekend warrior who spends their nature time between glamping and photo opportunities. Get real! There's a very good reason for having slim climbing pants and that's to read the rock for footholds. Of course, the fabric must give you freedom of movement. But that is easy with today's manufacturing technologies. Having thoroughly tested my first pair of Renegade Rocks I will be adding a few extras to the closet and pray that Kuhl won't be repeating the mistake of Outdoor Research by redesigning a perfect climb pant somewhere down the line just to say it's "new and improved". Innovation is great but not when you have something right the first time. Any negatives? I think I agree with those who see the mini doughnut front button as a bit of a gimmick. It does pop open for no good reason every now and then. Which only proves my prior point about "innovation". But that is a minor strike against an otherwise ideal pair of pants.

These fit very true to size. I wear a 32x30 in most jeans, and these fit exactly right. They’re a semi-stretchy, but durable material with a lot of pockets. There’s a phone pocket and additional zipper cargo pocket in addition to the standard ones. I have somewhat thick thighs from cycling and these pants are form fitted, but not tight.Because of the material, I feel like I have plenty of mobility. I can definitely do high feet while bouldering without straining them. If you are standing and do high leg raises, the pants just seem to move with you without feeling like you’re straining the fabric at all. Nice and breathable too.Style wise, I feel like they’re very versatile. I could wear these to the office, on a hike or out at the crag.

I bought these pants for work. The material seems strong, but is lighter weight and feels nice. I would say the pants run small. I usually wear a 33 and 34 is sometimes slightly too large. I got these in 34/34. The waist feels a little more snug than any other size 34 pants I own. The length also seems a little shorter as I normally wear a 32 inseam. These seem right at 34 inseam if only very slightly long. None of the pockets are overly deep and maybe just a tad too shallow. The small side zips can be pockets to carry smaller items and also work decently as vents when left unzipped. All in all, I love the feel and style and would recommend them although there may be better options for some.

These pants are great! Flexible and tough, cool in hot weather but protective enough to keep you warm on a cool evening, very comfortable. I am a 5’4” 120lb woman. I bought these in 28” waist, and they are way too long, but you can cinch the ankles or roll them up, and it looks fine. I yanked the legs up to go wading—perfect! Why did I, a small, relatively slim woman, buy men’s pants? POCKETS! The pockets are good and deep—normal in men’s pants but for some reason designers think women only stick a lipstick or whatever in theirs… These have two deep front pockets, a stealth zipped thigh pocket on either side (GREAT for travel—passport in one, emergency cash in the other), one zipped and one not zipped back pocket, and two more side pockets where I guess dudes stash ... MoreThese pants are great! I read all of the good reviews and then went to try these pants on in the store. I knew immediately when I put them on that they were great. The fit was perfect and the material was really comfortable. I am ver particular when it comes to the way pants fit, especially hiking pants because they seem to all be made for skinny guys. I have more of an athletic build with big thighs and butt. I am 5’11” and 215 lbs. I have already taken these on a 3 day backpacking trip and wore them all three days. The preformed flawlessly. I plan to purchase more from this brand. It should be noted that I have tried several other brands of similar type pants and these have by far been the best. Last thing to note is that I have to go up one size in the waist from what I normally wear ... MoreI read all of the good reviews and then went to try these pants on in the store. I use Rock Pants for off trail hiking among prickly bushes. Kuhl Renegade have short back pockets, one with zipper, the other open end. If you have iphone pro/max size, it will stick out 1/4 in back pockets, but fit nicely enclosed in front pocket. Also exactly fit in either of the two mid thigh knife size pockets. The leg bottom has a draw string closure if needed but otherwise fit perfect. I wear these hiking, around the house and to church. Full disclosure - i also bought Mountain Hardwear AP pants at REI outlet. They are heavier for colder weather, have bigger pockets all round and a button up lower pant leg versus the draw string (preferred) on Kuhl. There are 2 velcro (ugh) side pockets on AP that are iphone size.I rotate wearing these two pants. Rock pants ... MoreI use Rock Pants for off trail hiking among prickly bushes. I have 4 pairs in different colors. I have blue, khaki, green, and grey. Might buy a black pair soon. I’ve used these pants for climbing, hiking (snow, sand, mountains, deserts, ocean), daily wear, working, fancy wedding parties, and traveling. They can do everything and blend in nicely, as they don’t look like hiking pants. Super comfortable and durable. These are my go to pants for traveling, since I can dress them up and down. Took these pants on two international weddings, where I used the same pants in some outdoor adventures and dressed up at the wedding (the blue or khaki are great for that). The amount of pockets make them so versatile. Even small pockets work for carrying dog bags for the dog. And when traveling, the zip pockets for passport, wallet, and phone make them very able to secure your stuff without getting pickpocketed. My favorite pants ever, will never buy a different brand. They look super spiffy with the tapered cuffs. I can get rid of all my other pants as these fit the need for everything with a few different colors.
I bought these for hiking, yardwork, rock, climbing, and other outdoor activities. These pants for the price advertise their extreme durability and functionality. Unfortunately, they have a fatal flaw, preventing that value from being reached. The snap that holds the pants together, breaks away with the slightest amount of force. Simply bending over, lifting a heavy object, or even having tools in your pocket can be enough to cause the snap to release. this makes these pants for their intended purpose just about in possible if I’m rock climbing the last thing I want to have happen is my pants come un snapped. A few others have said but I should have taken it more seriously, these definitely run small! I'm normally a 34 waist and that gives "extra" space to tuck in shirts and whatnot. These 34 were just hitting on the uncomfortable tightness just trying them on around the house. Plus the tapered leg is VERY tapered. My whole life I've know I have chicken legs, but these were tight in the thigh/calf even for me. I cannot think they would be comfortable for hiking. That said, the quality does seem great, the pockets are awesome, and they are stylish. On a hike though I'm not too worried about style. I'm returning and getting the KUHL convertible version hoping the fit is better but still the same quality.
Bought a pair last year and really enjoyed the fit and wear. The design was wonderful. Plenty of pockets. The only downside is that they we out of the burnt olive so got khaki. No problems. Then saw earlier in the year the burnt olive was back and stock - and on sale! Made sure the size and description was the same from my previous order and sent the order through. Unfortunately when the pants arrived, it was quite obvious that these were from a lesser fabric. Also were subtle changes(only single belt loops on the sides, instead of double and pockets weren't as deep). Just seemed over all a less quality product. I still wear them, but there's definitely a difference from last year.
