Best long distance shoe so far

I bought the Kaptivas 2 years ago and after a couple of month the heel blew out and now there is nothing between my heel and the hard plastic wall in the back of the shoe. This shoe is worn out of course, however it surprised me that this would be the point of failure.Otherwise these are the best long distance running/ hiking shoes that I have found so far. There is enough space in the toes for them to spread out and not to get blisters. The sole is stiff enough to give support to my "flat" feet and the profile/ sole is close enough to the ground to give me stability. I guess in the end my heel got iritated from the missing cushioning.

Better than the Bushidos! Please don't discontiue!

I was on the Bushido 2's for a few months, but they did not have enough support, and I found myself severely pronating on my right foot. The fit was a little small, since sizing up made my heel slip, and I found them to be very warm. I researched a similar shoe and came across the Kaptiva. Same heel drop but a far superior fit. I followed the other reviews and purchased a full size up, from a 7.5 to an 8.5, and they are perfect. The toe box is roomy, but not overly large, allowing adequate room to spread my toes. The lacing is simple and doesnt dig into my feet or come loose. The construction is robust and holding up really well on knarly, rocky terrain. Shoes are responsive so you can feel the ground underfoot, but are stiff enough to support the inner foot from pronation. The toe construction is awesome at protecting, and seemless design has no weaknesses to wear down. Breathable, but doesn't sacrifice any durability. I feel nimble and efficient on these. If I had to be picky, I would ask for more color options. I think this shoes would be great as a racing shoe, but think it can be promoted as an excellent daily trail runner. Please keep this shoe!

When I first purchased the kaptiva's I was a little worried I had oversized them. During the fitting I had noticed some slight heel slippage, but eventually decide to go with a bigger size as I knew I was going to be spending some time in them and wanted to allow for foot swell during my runs. The heel slippage went away after about a week of running in them and packing them out a little bit.I love these shoes. I wore them through fall and some winter running. They worked great on ice and snow without spikes and I think that was due to the sticky rubber on the bottom. They are lightweight and low volume, with a very comfortable "sock-like" fit that eliminated any chafing I might normally experience when breaking in new running shoes. Light AND solid
9 October 2020

I've loved the Bushido I and Bushido II, but heard good things about the Kaptivas as a lighter, more race-oriented shoe and wanted to try them out. These shoes are awesome! They just felt fast from the minute I first put them on. No blisters thanks to the sock liner. I have very narrow feet, so it is tough to find shoes that don't cause my forefoot to slide around - a very unnerving feeling when running on very technical, rocky trails in the mountains. The only downside is that they seem to run a tad smaller than other Sportiva shoes and I should have paid more attention to reviews here. After several runs in them, I purchased a second pair a 1/2 size larger and they fit much better. If you are on the edge of sizes, size up a little bit.

Love
10 July 2024

I used to own the previous version, which I really liked (gray with pink details). I was hesitant to order the new version based on the reviews.I ordered the same size, 41 (I typically order a 39 for sandals and a 40 for running shoes). They're built almost exactly the same, except for the arch, which seems a bit higher.I used them several times on a trail, and am just as happy with them as the older version.People in the reviews were concerned about the glue in the new version, but my older version also has a small spot where the rubber detached on the toe box. This doesn't bother me, and they served me for a long time. I thought I could always glue it back together if needed.Love the color red, especially with a little dust on it!

Love it but having some challenges
3 July 2023

I am on my third generation of this shoe and it has proven to be my favorite for the trails. However, the latest generation in the Hibiscus color is failing me…I have already shipped back and received a warranty pair but the warranty Pair is doing the same thing and that is that the toe area starts coming apart when the shoe gets any water on it. It’s like whatever glue was used just dissolves with water. This is still my favorite shoe for comfort and performance on the trail. I would even love to have the last model to replace the most recent pair. La Sportiva, Help!

My new GO-TO shoe for everything!
3 September 2019

I'm normally a big fan of "rotating" my running shoes, never wearing the same pair two days in a row. I usually have a pair that I like for trail, one for pavement, one for the track. This summer has been different - I got my new Kaptivas early in the summer, and I find myself wanting to wear them every day for every run. I have worn them for my last four races - one road, one flat, non-technical trail, one track mile, and one highly technical trail with steep ups and downs. I was never disappointed. The fit and feel of the snug sockliner is secure and prevents slippage and the heel blisters to which I am normally very prone! I'm looking forward to buying another pair.

Supportive with excellent arch support
4 May 2024

I bought this pair just a couple of weeks after buying my first pair of La Sportiva shoes simply because they are such a perfect fit for my feet. As a former dancer, I have incredibly high arches and finding shoes with appropriate arch support has always been a challenge. I was delighted to discover unparalleled arch support in these shoes! My feet feel cradled in support.

Wanted to Love Them
3 April 2023

I really, really wanted to love these: they fit me so well, and their tread pattern was perfect for the mountain running I had ahead of me last summer. The tongue feature was a great idea too...Alas: shoe began falling apart on my first 20 miler into the alpine. Over trail to rock and across streams, the external material slowly because unglued from the internal mesh. And now, I'm left with a shoe that looks completely blown out and gets a million tiny rocks stuck between the two layers. For a brand whose sticky rubber is so famously durable, I can't believe La Sportiva skimped on the glue quality here. This was probably my biggest disappointment in gear purchases in years!

[Rewarded Review] Great feel for the trail
7 September 2020

You can take this shoe almost anywhere. It’s light and responsive with decent cushioning. I run on crushed gravel double track with this more some of my mindless weekday miles. It’s stiff enough for rocky technical trails. Traction is good for wet mud. Sock-like tongue is decent for keeping debris out of shoes. Sizing may be a tiny bit short compared to other la sportiva shoes I’ve worn. I used this shoe for backpacking with a 25 lb pack over 55 miles in the Wind River range this summer. No problems. Had some wear across the upper where it flexes, but should be able to get at least 500 miles out of this shoe.
