I bought the Kaptivas 2 years ago and after a couple of month the heel blew out and now there is nothing between my heel and the hard plastic wall in the back of the shoe. This shoe is worn out of course, however it surprised me that this would be the point of failure.Otherwise these are the best long distance running/ hiking shoes that I have found so far. There is enough space in the toes for them to spread out and not to get blisters. The sole is stiff enough to give support to my "flat" feet and the profile/ sole is close enough to the ground to give me stability. I guess in the end my heel got iritated from the missing cushioning.

Please don't discontinue the Kaptiva's, La Sportiva! Having narrow feet and high arches, I have struggled to find a proper fitting trail running shoe for over a year, and these are the winner. I was on the Bushido 2's for a few months, but they did not have enough support, and I found myself severely pronating on my right foot. The fit was a little small, since sizing up made my heel slip, and I found them to be very warm. I researched a similar shoe and came across the Kaptiva. Same heel drop but a far superior fit. I followed the other reviews and purchased a full size up, from a 7.5 to an 8.5, and they are perfect. The toe box is roomy, but not overly large, allowing adequate room to spread my toes. The heel cup is high and keeps my heels in place. The tongueless ... MorePlease don't discontinue the Kaptiva's, La Sportiva! The lacing is simple and doesnt dig into my feet or come loose. The construction is robust and holding up really well on knarly, rocky terrain. Shoes are responsive so you can feel the ground underfoot, but are stiff enough to support the inner foot from pronation. The toe construction is awesome at protecting, and seemless design has no weaknesses to wear down. Breathable, but doesn't sacrifice any durability. I feel nimble and efficient on these. If I had to be picky, I would ask for more color options. I think this shoes would be great as a racing shoe, but think it can be promoted as an excellent daily trail runner. Please keep this shoe!

I’m pretty mixed on these. I switched to La Sportiva from Salomon/Inov-8 because I was having durability issues with those two brands AND I wanted a rock plate for technical running. Out of the gate these fit really well, tts, had excellent traction and nice protection while not feeling like too much shoe (like the Akasha). A little gappy in the arches though, so I was getting foot slippage on steep descents that I eventually remedied with different footbeds. Having had previous uppers get shredded by trail dust and grit, I rinse or wash (front loader) these weekly to try to preserve them. After two months of wearing them about 2x week strictly on trail (30-40 mi), the lugs are extremely worn, the back of the heel is completely blown out, and if not for the ... MoreI’m pretty mixed on these. I’m at a loss on where to find shoes for technical trails that last more than half a season. It’s a decent model but I expected the sole and heel held up better, particularly for a mountain running shoe. Typically run 50-70 mi/week rotating shoes.

I used to own the previous version, which I really liked (gray with pink details). I was hesitant to order the new version based on the reviews.I ordered the same size, 41 (I typically order a 39 for sandals and a 40 for running shoes). They're built almost exactly the same, except for the arch, which seems a bit higher.I used them several times on a trail, and am just as happy with them as the older version.People in the reviews were concerned about the glue in the new version, but my older version also has a small spot where the rubber detached on the toe box. This doesn't bother me, and they served me for a long time. I thought I could always glue it back together if needed.Love the color red, especially with a little dust on it!
I am on my third generation of this shoe and it has proven to be my favorite for the trails. However, the latest generation in the Hibiscus color is failing me…I have already shipped back and received a warranty pair but the warranty Pair is doing the same thing and that is that the toe area starts coming apart when the shoe gets any water on it. It’s like whatever glue was used just dissolves with water. This is still my favorite shoe for comfort and performance on the trail. I would even love to have the last model to replace the most recent pair. La Sportiva, Help!
Love, love, love! These fit my feet like a glove. After the first pair, I immediately bought 2 more. Sadly, when I went back to buy more, they were out of my size….forever. I hope the next generation does not change in any way other than color. I bought these for trail running but now find that I wear them all day, nearly every day because they are so comfortable. They cradle my feet like no other shoe. I do not wear them for long road runs because they are not extremely forgiving with the rock plate, but I do wear them for road runs less than, say, 7 miles.
I really love these. I don't get blisters in them at all. Took them on a 22 mile mountain run with almost 5k elevation gain and no blisters or sore feet. I did go a half size larger than my normal size, which was recommended and fit perfectly. I would not say my foot is wide nor narrow. I would love to backpack in these, but my ankle's need some support with the extra weight, but if you have good ankles, I would 100% backpack in these too. I also did not have to break these in.
I bought this pair just a couple of weeks after buying my first pair of La Sportiva shoes simply because they are such a perfect fit for my feet. As a former dancer, I have incredibly high arches and finding shoes with appropriate arch support has always been a challenge. I was delighted to discover unparalleled arch support in these shoes! My feet feel cradled in support.
The first two times I ran in these I didn't plan to keep them. They seemed so minimal, felt like basically no padding, my typical half-size up in La Sportiva felt big, and the arch on my smaller foot felt weird.... Third spin, I started to like them. Then I loved them. I would recommend these shoes (definitely if you have narrow-ish feet), and suggest use them a few times before you decide. Seem to be good on wet roots and rocks and well as dry dirt. If you are a huge proponent of Hoka-type padding ("drop" is it?), you might not like these. If you are down for a more minimal shoe, give these a try. I love them. (And the hibiscus color is pretty.)
I really, really wanted to love these: they fit me so well, and their tread pattern was perfect for the mountain running I had ahead of me last summer. The tongue feature was a great idea too...Alas: shoe began falling apart on my first 20 miler into the alpine. Over trail to rock and across streams, the external material slowly because unglued from the internal mesh. And now, I'm left with a shoe that looks completely blown out and gets a million tiny rocks stuck between the two layers. For a brand whose sticky rubber is so famously durable, I can't believe La Sportiva skimped on the glue quality here. This was probably my biggest disappointment in gear purchases in years!
