Excellent beginner shoe

Just started getting into bouldering and these have been great shoes for beginners. The laces allow for nice adjustability and the shoe is comfortable. Sizes seems to fit well like your regular shoe size. The sole is solid and secures on to little holds. The colours are really nice as well.

Fantastic Beginner Shoe!

Fantastic starter shoe. The price is perfect and they offer just a bit more then your average rental with the presence of mind that you get from wearing your own shoes. For six months these kept me on the wall and honestly while I could sit here and critique the shoes for $66 on sale they felt like an inflation proof deal.No complaints here. Enjoy!

I climb about 2-3 times indoor a week around 3 hours a time and I’ve been wearing these for about 9 months now. Any beginner should definitely consider these! I can wear them for the whole session without having to take them off, they’re that comfortable. They’re very affordable too so I never worried about banging or scraping them on the walls. It gave me great confidence to just go full out on routes without worrying about damaging them. They are still in great condition with some slight toe wear, but if you learn proper technique, there’s no reason they shouldn’t last for awhile.

Good starter shoe, while it lasts
2 September 2022

I have no complaints against the performance of this shoe, they served me well as my first shoe. I started climbing in June 2022 and used them exclusively 3-4 times a week since then, ~60/40 mix of bouldering/routes in the gym. They fit true to my street size, broke in comfortably - I rarely need to take them off during a session - and it never felt like they were holding me back as I progressed from beginner to intermediate grades. That said, in just under 3 months of use they started forming holes in the toes on both shoes, right where the sole rubber connects to the toecap. I don't feel I've been particularly rough on them, but I suppose I haven't been easy on them either - and the folks who work at my gym said they see this a lot with this shoe. So ya, your mileage may vary but I'd still recommend it for a starter shoe, I really think it's a good all-rounder - and if you're anything like me you'll already be looking at new shoes, so when these ones start degrading you'll have an excuse to pull the trigger on an upgrade!

Great Beginner's Shoe
18 October 2023

Comfortable, easy to get on and off. Seems like it will wear well. This is my first climbing shoe and I would definitely get a pair with velcro the next time - just for ease of use. But this is a great beginner's shoe. I will keep these for a long time, and they seem like they're going to last. Really well made.

Great shoe, but wore out quickly
4 November 2022

For context, I'm a gym only climber, hardest thing is 5.10d. Climb two to three times a week. These shoes were my first legit financial investment in climbing. They are comfortable, decently grippy, and worked well. I never ran into anything where I felt they were a limitation based on my climbing level. However after about 5 months, both shoes are splitting where the top is attached to the sole. Disappointing. They served their purpose for what they did, if you're a beginner to intermediate climber, these are a great entry level pair that don't break the bank.

Nice climbing shoe, but mid-to-poor quality
12 June 2023

Nice shoe, but they break quickly. I climbed 2-3x per week for ~6-months using these shoes. Pro is that they are a very comfortable shoe. Pretty flat, so are really comfy for nice long bouldering sessions. The downside is that these shoes break down really quickly. The eyelets both came out within a couple months of having the shoes. Now the laces are ripping out of the last eye-holes entirely. Would recommend getting something sturdier

Not right for me, but decent
30 March 2024

I bought these based on the price, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The toe box is too big and not pointy, making it hard to pivot on small holds. Also the laces give a custom fit, but it’s burdensome having to put them on and lace up if you want to take off your shoes once every 30-60 minutes. Also I immediately noticed the rubber starting to wear faster than other shoes. Meh.

Superb, Comfortable Starter Shoe
29 October 2020

This was my first pair of climbing shoes. My local REI recommended them and I was pleased with the recommendation. I think its an excellent starter shoe, but it has it limitations on difficult/advanced terrain.I liked the lace-up shoe to begin with because adjusting to the fit and feel of climbing shoes can take some time and the laces allowed me to control how tight the shoes were in different places across the shoe. The laces, leather, and sole are constructed well and I had no issue with them. The sole rubber is great, but it is a harder rubber. The harder rubber lasts longer, but it is not as sticky as some of La Sportiva's other shoes. The sole on my first pair lasted me almost 8 months before I needed to replace them--if my footwork was better I know they ... MoreThis was my first pair of climbing shoes. The sole on my first pair lasted me almost 8 months before I needed to replace them--if my footwork was better I know they would have lasted longer. These shoes are comfortable. I still wear these shoes when I'm running laps at the gym on the autobelay or am trying to get in a lot of volume. They are excellent for all day comfort. I climbed both indoors and outside in these shoes. If you are looking for a shoe to help you build the fundamentals of climbing movement on various types of terrain--slabs, vertical, and overhanging--for a good value, then look no further.I did not notice limitations of the shoe until I started climbing harder grades (5.11d/V6 and above) on more technical terrain. For the record, I have climbed 5.12a (7a) and V6 in these shoes--they can do it. The shoes have a softer sole so foot jamming was more painful than it was in other shoes--and, just to be clear, foot jamming is never pleasant. The softer sole also makes it a little more difficult to edge on tiny nubbins/edges without a lot of foot pressure.

THE beginner shoe to get
29 May 2023

I grabbed a pair of these as my first shoes for climbing and I have to say, these are probably one of the best shoes to get as a new climber. The price is perfect for what you get and the comfort is amazing for long sessions.Initially sized down 1 US size from my street size (10.5 street) and after about 6 months these have broken in great. I could see 1.5 sizes being doable, but I'd imagine the pain at first being more bothersome which could make it difficult to simply enjoy climbing. Breaking in was a bit tough as expected for a beginner (not used to sizing down a shoe like that). I'd say it took ~2 climbing sessions for the material to start molding to the shape of my feet. After that I was able to wear these through 2 hour sessions with zero discomfort. Having laces is great for getting a very precise fit on the feet. The rubber is extremely durable and will last a very long time. This is perfect for beginners since you won't chew through the rubber compared to shoes with softer rubber. It may not be the stickiest rubber available, but I wouldn't say this would hold you from progressing for a good amount of time in your climbing journey.Overall, I'd say this is a great option for those looking for their first pair of shoes. Comfort might be the best thing about these as you can focus on climbing and learning new techniques without the distraction of discomfort.
