The recommendation of sizing these things down by 2 to 3 sizes or 1 to 2 sizes for all-day comfort is just wrong. Size at your street shoe size or 1/2 size down. These shoes are not meant to be painful. Try them on first if possible. I've been climbing for 40 years and have gone through lots of shoes. I bought these relatively inexpensive shoes for the gym so I didn't wear out my more expensive shoes and ended up loving them for their comfort and acceptable performance level. If you are not climbing anything harder than 5.11 you don't need more expensive tighter shoes.

I bought these for the gym and as a backup pair while my TC Pros were getting resoled. Two months later, and two crag days, there’s a hole torn in the toe, through the rand, which means a resole and rerand. No thanks. Additionally the last went from neutral to elf shoe in no time. The soles are Sportiva, not Vibram. And you can tell. These shoes are soft and comfortable but the grip is not up to par. I knew I wasn’t buying a pair of professional shoes. But seriously, these shoes don’t inspire anything or anyone. If a beginner were to learn on these, they’d be learning how to climb without maximizing their feet. Good luck with that.

I’ve got a wide foot, so finding the right shoe can be comfortable. Further complicating this purchase was the fact that I’m new to climbing. I tried to break them in by keeping climbing sessions no more than 30 minutes for the first few weeks. I just did 2 hours of climbing this weekend and my plan to break them in worked perfectly. No sores. No blisters. Very happy with them!

I climb about 2-3 times indoor a week around 3 hours a time and I’ve been wearing these for about 9 months now. Any beginner should definitely consider these! I can wear them for the whole session without having to take them off, they’re that comfortable. They’re very affordable too so I never worried about banging or scraping them on the walls. It gave me great confidence to just go full out on routes without worrying about damaging them. They are still in great condition with some slight toe wear, but if you learn proper technique, there’s no reason they shouldn’t last for awhile.
I've only used this shoe for 3 climbing sessions so far so it may be too early to leave a full review. So far it has lived up to my expectations. The shoe prioritizes comfort and laces help get a snug fit, which allows me to keep climbing for 2+ hours without ever feeling the need to remove and re-wear my shoe. Although, maybe its just that my feet are too wide, I'm feeling a blister on the edge of my feet. I hope the shoe opens up a bit more for my upcoming climbs.
I have no complaints against the performance of this shoe, they served me well as my first shoe. I started climbing in June 2022 and used them exclusively 3-4 times a week since then, ~60/40 mix of bouldering/routes in the gym. They fit true to my street size, broke in comfortably - I rarely need to take them off during a session - and it never felt like they were holding me back as I progressed from beginner to intermediate grades. That said, in just under 3 months of use they started forming holes in the toes on both shoes, right where the sole rubber connects to the toecap. I don't feel I've been particularly rough on them, but I suppose I haven't been easy on them either - and the folks who work at my gym said they see this a lot with this shoe. So ya, your mileage may vary but I'd still recommend it for a starter shoe, I really think it's a good all-rounder - and if you're anything like me you'll already be looking at new shoes, so when these ones start degrading you'll have an excuse to pull the trigger on an upgrade!
I got these as my first and second pairs of climbing shoes. They stretch quite a bit, consider sizing down.Pros: comfy, even for my wide feet at the end of a day of hiking and climbingCons: sole began to split after ~8 months of climbing 3 times per weekI enjoyed these greatly for comfort, and will be looking for something with better longevity for my next pair of shoes.
This is a great first climbing shoe for beginners. As a beginner, it's totally unnecessary to buy specialized climbing shoes, since one's technique won't be sophisticated enough to reap the benefits of special designs. This is an all-around good shoe for any kind of climbing a beginner would do. It's helpful that it's affordable, as the inevitable messy foot work with beginners will wear through the toe rubber relatively quickly. Helpful to size down 1-2 sizes (compared to your regular shoes).
For context, I'm a gym only climber, hardest thing is 5.10d. Climb two to three times a week. These shoes were my first legit financial investment in climbing. They are comfortable, decently grippy, and worked well. I never ran into anything where I felt they were a limitation based on my climbing level. However after about 5 months, both shoes are splitting where the top is attached to the sole. Disappointing. They served their purpose for what they did, if you're a beginner to intermediate climber, these are a great entry level pair that don't break the bank.
This was my first pair of climbing shoes. My local REI recommended them and I was pleased with the recommendation. I think its an excellent starter shoe, but it has it limitations on difficult/advanced terrain.I liked the lace-up shoe to begin with because adjusting to the fit and feel of climbing shoes can take some time and the laces allowed me to control how tight the shoes were in different places across the shoe. The laces, leather, and sole are constructed well and I had no issue with them. The sole rubber is great, but it is a harder rubber. The harder rubber lasts longer, but it is not as sticky as some of La Sportiva's other shoes. The sole on my first pair lasted me almost 8 months before I needed to replace them--if my footwork was better I know they ... MoreThis was my first pair of climbing shoes. I still wear these shoes when I'm running laps at the gym on the autobelay or am trying to get in a lot of volume. They are excellent for all day comfort. I climbed both indoors and outside in these shoes. If you are looking for a shoe to help you build the fundamentals of climbing movement on various types of terrain--slabs, vertical, and overhanging--for a good value, then look no further.I did not notice limitations of the shoe until I started climbing harder grades (5.11d/V6 and above) on more technical terrain. For the record, I have climbed 5.12a (7a) and V6 in these shoes--they can do it. The shoes have a softer sole so foot jamming was more painful than it was in other shoes--and, just to be clear, foot jamming is never pleasant. The softer sole also makes it a little more difficult to edge on tiny nubbins/edges without a lot of foot pressure.
