This coffee is certainly not for everyone. It is a strong, dark roast coffee made up with a mixture of both arabica and robusta beans. Arabica beans tend to have a sweeter, softer taste, with tones of sugar, fruit, and berries. Their acidity is higher, with that winey taste that characterises coffee with excellent acidity. Robusta, however, has a stronger, harsher taste, with a grain-like overtone and peanuty aftertaste. Good-quality robusta beans are used in traditional Italian espresso blends, at about 10-15%, to provide a full-bodied taste and a better foam head, often known as the crema. In this regard especially, this blend of beans provides an excellent crema. In fact it is often said that many Lisbon locals claim that "Bica" is an acronym for "Beba isso com açúcar", literally meaning "Drink this with sugar".Having becoming accustomed with the rich espressos in Portugal, this blend by Lavazza certainly replicates this experience. The only drawback is the price which, at around £13+ a kilo, is a little expensive.Read less

Firstly i should say i use a frencg press mostly and so my opinions below are based purely on preparing the coffee this way. I go off-piste occasionally and try other blends but always seem to go back to Lavazza Qualita Oro. The Qualita Oro is a solid well balanced blended Italian roast - i personally get some nutty, earthy, berry like sweetness with both the smell and the taste. The aftertaste is very smooth which i really like and i would describe it as a light bodied coffee compared to other Lavazza blends i have tried. I have tried amd would not recommend it for espresso lovers, it is not a punchy coffee in my opinion and is better suited to french press filtered applications where the smoothness can excel. A real quality coffee in my opinion for day to day use ... MoreFirstly i should say i use a frencg press mostly and so my opinions below are based purely on preparing the coffee this way. Though anyone with the same machine will know how hard it is to texture milk with the wand as it cant be angled.Overall for the price £11.49 when bought and a yeild of about 90 shots (11g each) working out at just under 13p a shot i would highly recommended this bean.

Simply put it yes…! This is the gold standard for great coffee. Personally I use both a artisan flavoured coffee and Lavaazza Oro. Why?! The Oro is the best, personally, it’s a great staple coffee well rounded, great punch, fruity and floral, with BIG coffee kick! It produces a great créma and delivers perfectly every time. I have tried a range of other brands and others within the Lavazza range and it’s really difficult to say otherwise. Artisan and washed coffees are great and with out a gold standard coffee along side them (in rotation) to disrupt the flavours, you might struggle to taste the difference. Oro is great!! And a daily staple

This is to Lavazza Rossa what a single malt is to a £20 blend - whereas Rossa is a solid, flavoursome and great all-rounder, it is clumsy in its dependable delivery of decent coffee flavour. The Tierra is a more refined beast with more fruity, floral flavours that the robusta of rossa blockades. With this blend, you get dark chocolate, vanilla and almost a slight liquorice note like you do from dark cocoa. It’s a superior flavour and one that suits darker, more roasted palates but is not bitter or acrid at all. It’s really decent coffee and a happy bridge between a “medium” and an “espresso” roast. I’d buy it again. Happy I did.

An Unremarkable Coffee of Dubious Freshness
8 May 2019

I recently purchased this coffee after acquiring a new Profitec Pro 700, and seeking WLL’s suggestions on what coffees would fit my taste preferences. The Lavazza Qualita Oro was among the suggestions, along with Mio Crema Plus. Sadly, neither coffee - which only come in 1kg (or larger bags) - had any remarkable, satisfying coffee flavor. The Lavazza did not have a discernible roast date on the bag, but did indicate a “best buy” date sometime in 2020, and the Mio was roasted in Dec 2018 - about 3 months before I received it. I Both coffees lacked a fresh taste, even though purchased as whole beans, and ground seconds before extraction.I have not drank lots of espresso in Italy, but have throughout France, Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia. I Both coffees lacked a fresh taste, even though purchased as whole beans, and ground seconds before extraction.I have not drank lots of espresso in Italy, but have throughout France, Germany, Switzerland and Scandinavia. All tasted much better than either of these coffees. I have doubts about whether it is possible (at any reasonable price) to import and maintain an inventory of coffees of this nature to the US, and have them be fresh. Which, unfortunately, makes it unlikely that I will repeat this experience. WLL’s price is certainly reasonable for 2.2 lbs of coffee, but if you do not enjoy it, it is not a good value. Also, having to buy a1kg bag just to try a coffee is a real negative. If WLL wants to help customers find the best coffee for their tastes, they might want to consider assembling smaller sample packs so customers could explore more options. I will probably throw-out most of the 2kg of coffee that I purchased, as I have not found any friends enthused enough about its taste to even accept it as a gift.

Can't get a good espresso out of it
16 October 2023

I really like this coffee for french press, but I am having nothing but issues with it for espresso. No crema, prone to channeling. Runs either too slow or too fast most of the time. Every espresso that I tried tasted terrible. Strangely, it works better for cappuccino. But even there the failure rate is high. I am not having this issue with let's say Lavazza Gran Riserva or any of the Maromas.

Great Smelling Coffee Beans
10 May 2023

You cannot beat freshly ground coffee beans and these beans make great tasting traditional coffee that is smooth and tasty. They smell delicious when grinding them and when brewing. They make a wonderful espresso and really good ground for the cafetière as well.Smooth tasting with a delicious aroma and no bitterness. Enjoyed mainly as lattes and cappuccinos, but also made a good iced coffee.
