Le Labo Santal 33 Eau De Parfum 100ml

Le Labo is always on the top of my list when it comes to fragrance. I absolutely love this scent. The depth of ingredients really takes you on a journey. There is a fresh, clean aspect with fig and bergamot on the nose and then a deeper sense of musk, vetiver and cedar wood. I believe there is also a black tea leaf note and possibly tobacco and hay. It’s truly unbelievable on men and women. I’ve never offended someone in the office or around me by wearing it, (that I know of) and it’s tough to put into words the sensational journey this takes you on. The scent lasts for days on my skin and on clothes. Sometimes I’ll even spritz a bit in my room before bedtime and it just smells like a dream. I had a sample of this scent that I absolutely loved - woodsy and mysterious and so different to the majority of boring “everywhere” high street perfumes. I decided to purchase a 15ml bottle in store in Tokyo. Each bottle is hand-mixed when you purchase it, and you have the option to personalize your bottle with your name or something too, which I also did. Well, big mistake. Once I got it home, I realized it smelt nothing like the sample I had! Gone was the complex sandalwood and its place the dreaded dill pickle juice smell I had heard so much about. I did some research and found out the scent can mature if you let a bottle “rest” for a couple of months, which I duly did. Nothing changed :( This is supposed to be such a compliment getter but I didn’t get a single compliment throughout this bottle, which, I must add, I could not return because it was personalized (which is weird, cause would they then resell a used bottle anyway? Doubt it.) I finished the bottle and found it only smelt a bit nicer after wearing for a full day and weirdly working out - the dill pickle note was somewhat reduced. But still not like the dreamy sample I had previously owned! A sad waste of $83. If I buy from this brand in the future I will not make the mistake of personalizing again as since each bottle is separately mixed I imagine they can make mistakes or tiny ingredients tweaks that impact the scent. Saying that, this scent is utterly ubiquitous in the hipster areas of New York and London and Tokyo, which kind of defeats the point of choosing a niche perfume anyway, so perhaps not such a bad loss after all.

BOTTLE: Personally, I love Le Labo’s grungy, laboratory chic style. Great bottle that encompasses that aesthetic. Just be careful touching the label because the paper WILL stain if there is something on your hands! NOTES: Sandalwood, Leather, Papyrus, Cedar, Cardamom, Violet, Iris, Amber SCENT: A lot of sandalwood/santal notes tend to pull very smooth and creamy on me, but Santal 33 is like a breath of fresh air. The papyrus comes in strong for me, making for a uniquely fresh sandalwood with a touch of dill (best way I can describe this). It’s a clean green wood with a spicy character. Very unique for the time it was made LONGEVITY: 6 - 8 hrs SILLAGE: Moderate to Strong (within arms length to filling up a room) TIME/PLACE: Spring/Summer days. I found out about this scent when I purchased another scent from Nordstrom and they gave me a sample bag as part of a promotion for buying scents. I had to grab it the next day. I could literally only have this smell in my wardrobe for the rest of my life, and be perfectly content. But of course I had to try their other scents. So, I currently have Another 13, Ambrette 9, and The Noir from Le Labo. She was thorough in her product knowledge, leaving me feeling confident and excited for my purchase. The personalization is a nice touch. She started me off with the 50 ml bottle to see how I like it. The option to refill my bottle when I’m done is great! Everyone’s sensitivity to scents is different and not everyone will appreciate the same notes that create such an intoxicating parfum. There’s a smokiness and spice to it, but it’s also soft and comforting. There’s something sexy about it that makes you want to be wrapped in someone’s arms. I finally gave in and had to see what all the fuss was about with this fragrance. I tend to be drawn towards gourmands and florals, but I wanted to branch out a bit, and i cant stand to be left out of anything, even if I am a bit late to the party. This fragrance is a little pricey, but the quality is undeniable. The first time I sprayed this, it was kind of shocking because it was unlike anything I've ever smelled. The first hour it smells green, minerally, and leathery at the same time. I assume this is the phase where people compare it to pickles, but that doesn't do the fragrance any justice. I noticed that those top notes rounded out quite a bit when I applied it to freshly moisturized skin rather than dry skin. The dry down is incredible. If you buy this, give it a few chances to win you over. First two days i wasn't sure. Third day I applied it post-shower and fell head over heels.

Love the diversity of the scent itself

I received a sample of this after purchasing a ton of different moisturizers. I enjoyed it so much that I used it up the first week. So I went and purchased the 3.4 oz bottle and I’m glad I did. What I love about Le Labo is each scent can work with just about anyone. As a man, I find the this fragrance matches perfectly with the chemistry of my skin and gives off a sexy, musky, yet very subtle spicy aroma. The downside is it does wear off quicker than it should, given it’s a platinum tier fragrance. However, I spray it over my scent-less Clarins moisturizer and I find that the smell lasts a lot longer that way. I find myself taking whiffs of my wrists throughout the day. 10/10! I would say it ranks second best after my Creed Aventus fragrance.

Love the smell, but disappointed.

I received a sample in my Mecca Beauty Loop box and like others have mentioned, was taken aback by the scent initially but it was not long before I was addicted. I would dab some on before work and the scent would still linger gorgeously 13 hours later. Naturally, I took the plunge and bought the full sized bottle. I have started using the full size recently and am finding the scent does not last. I usually do not spritz more than two sprays of any perfume, and find that this amount would suffice and last me all day. However, I would do 3-4 sprays of Santal 33 (one at each of my pulse points) and 40 minutes later can barely smell it. No fragrance

I wore this daily for a month without letting anyone I know I changed my perfumes. Since this perfume has been labeled the 'Holy Grail' of perfumes, I was expecting positive compliments. Zero. Not one person say 'WOW, what is that perfume?' I wasn't surprised because shortly after spraying it on me, I couldn't even smell it. There were days I would rotate how I sprayed it on me thinking maybe I was doing something wrong. No matter how much or how little I sprayed it, the outcome was always the same. Nothing. I would intentionally spray it on and wait a few minutes and them give my husband a hug. He liked the hug but never a comment on my perfume. I don't know if this is selective to only me but for the price I had to return it. IF ... IF ... I wear Creed Silver Mountain which is too expensive and I am looking for a more affordable option for every day use. Santal 33 came in highly recommended based on the scent profile that I like. Unlike some of the reviews I had the opposite issue with the perfume not lasting, one spray and the scent was so strong and lasting that after a few hours I was getting a headache and desperately wanted it off of me. Some perfume got sprayed on the jacket I was wearing and after 4 days I could smell it, and it was so sweet and powdery that I could not tolerate it. It started with a clean scent for the first 10-15 minutes but afterwards as it stayed on it became like grandma’s mothballs!
