I've owned at least half the models that Leatherman has produced and can say with confidence that the Rebar is a fantastic tool. I've had my current Rebar for 5 years now, and I've beat the hell out of it. I'm on Sheath number 3, because I'm really hard on sheaths.I've used this tool for all it's intended uses and then some. There are weld marks on the pliers now, more dings and scratches than I can count. I've used it as a hammer, which it works well for! Now it rides on my belt while I work at my desk day job and into the evenings and weekends, when I run my side business as a handyman. I've dropped it in the snow tons of times, and there isn't a speck of rust on it. I typically clean it once a year, and give it a good oiling with 3in1 oil. The straight blade gets sharpened and stropped about 4 times a year, and I've never sharpened the serrated blade or saw and they're still sharp as a razor. If you're on the fence about buying a Leatherman, don't be. With their excellent reputation build on years of trials, and perfect Customer Service, you can't go wrong. The only choice you have to make is which one to buy. I personally prefer the old box style of the Rebar over the outside accessible tools like the Wave. That's a matter of preference. I will say this: I use my Rebar with gloves and have no problems. My hands are medium to large, but the Surge is too big. The Rebar fits perfectly.

It will wear over time. That said, to my knowledge there is no metal coating more wear resistant than Cerakote. Because of the design of the Rebar, the first part that will wear is the top of the handles nearest the pliers head. This is because the opening and closing of the tool causes the two halves to rub against each other. It's a very limited wear area but noticeable. With its small size i think it would be a great addition but its not the big of an issue for me. All in all great tool, I bought the stainless steel rebar I wanted the coyote version of this tool but decided to spend a little less money on the front end to make sure this tool would fit the bill. It has so I see another rebar in my future.

Nice tool but not intuitive and takes getting use
3 January 2023

Some of the tools are difficult to open/extract. It takes quite a while to figure out how to operate the tool properly, and they are very limited directions that come with it and nothing on the website - had to rely on 3rd party videos on YouTube. You get a black oil residue on your hands when using the tool. the way to tool pouch attaches to your belt is inconvenient unless you wear the same pants and belt every day. The tool itself is made well and does a good job once you figure things out, but I was expecting something more intuitive and "at the ready".

Not the same metal as my Supertool. And that's not good.

I've considered myself a devoted Leatherman user after 19 years of DAILY use with my Leatherman Supercool (1997). It was a wedding gift and served me brilliantly until it was stolen from my luggage in Munich two months ago.My best friend decided to surprise me with a new Rebar. I was totally impressed, appreciating the extra sharpness of the blades, replaceable plyer cutters and a grip that no longer hurt to squeeze (my only Supercool complaint).Unfortunately I broke the small screw driver tool, prying off some balsa wood that I'd temporarily nailed to the fence I'd just built. This blew my mind because I'd done prying much harder than this with my Supercool with no problem. (Leatherman folk, can you let me know please?) And if the new Supercool 300 also uses this metal. I'd go with whichever is stronger. Thank you.I really hate to write a negative review for Leatherman because I love Leatherman. All those who know me consider me a Leatherman freak. I wore mine everyday for 19 years - even to weddings.

Why you should buy the Rebar:• Excellent build quality. USA made. No play, no rattling, no machining marks, everything is smooth and precise. Solid steel construction, no plastic parts.• Good selection of tools. Replaceable wire-cutters. All tools lock in place.• Comfortable handles. Rounded-off edges provide a nice grip for extended usage.• Size and weight. This is the lightest of Leatherman's full-size tools. Can comfortably rest in a pocket or on your belt, while still having most tools you'll need, plus one of the best plier heads in the multitool world.• Performance: Surprisingly strong pliers for its size. 154CM wire-cuters, the exact pair on the larger tools, like the Surge. Rebar

I have loads of other multi-tools, including the Leatherman PST II which I love. The Rebar is a slightly bigger and much stronger version of that. I wanted a go-to outdoors multi-tool that covered the bases, so I didnt want the small (nearly useless) scissors that are found on the Wave taking up valuable space. The Rebar has everything I need. IMO, the best scissors can be found on the Micro, a valuable EDC on my key chain. I love the blackened finish-Its just cool. The mole sheath is of very good quality and is American made. I purchased the leather sheath also for its better fit and now use the mole for a larger muli-tool in my kit. Rust
28 August 2016

I bought this tool two months ago, to supplement my Leatherman Surge. The Rebar is significantly lighter than the Surge, and cheaper to replace should it disappear overboard. I like the replaceable cutters, good plier ergonomics, but opening a knife blade is most definitely a two handed job, potentially hazardous, and not something to do on the deck of a pitching boat. Remaining tools are well selected - but I miss the replicable saw/file blades of the Surge. My first purchase was a Leatherman Wave, which I bought for my wife in 2000. I also use various rigging knives, Solingen cooks knives, Victorinox knives, and Joseph Roger's Sheffield pocket knives. On the opposite side of the Rebar, the saw has a rust stain, and the remaining tools are flecked with rust. For me, rusting is a real "deal breaker", and especially so, since this was completely unexpected. So, despite the good points of which this tool has many, my confidence in Leatherman is shaken. Hence, a minimum rating of one star.

I wrote a review some years ago when my Rebar was new and would like to update it. I still carry my Rebar on my duty belt in my duties as a police officer as well as at home, and have lost track of the number of times it's saved the day. As the years have gone along, it's loosened up ever so slightly, but is still stiff enough to my liking. I can testify first hand to the sharpness of the saw, which cut a nice, deep wound in my knuckle when it slipped from a branch that I was cutting when setting up a tree stand. The knife blade has cut countless snacks open, and does a phenomenal job on a block of cheese! I own a few different Leatherman products. I will admit I have been a bit spoilt with a charge and wave being my first and second multi tools. My partner bought the rebar for my birthday and I did no want to be rude or have her feel as though she had got the wrong multi tool. The cost of the rebar is a bit lower so I think she felt there was little difference between the rebar and the other tools like the wave. The two main problems, and there are many, with this tool is lack of interchangeable bit holder and you have to open up the tool to get out the knives. Sounds petty but actually these two issues are huge. The time it takes to get to the blades takes an incredibley long time in comparison to other Leatherman products. Sounds petty but actually these two issues are huge. The time it takes to get to the blades takes an incredibley long time in comparison to other Leatherman products. The lack of Interchangeable bits sink this product. I could maybe live with the blades issue but that coupled with the the fixed bit makes this product useless to me. I find my skeletool is more useful. The rebar is sold as a full size multi tool but honestly there are far better tools in the Leatherman lineup for only a little bit more and it has no weight or size advantages over the wave or charge. The smaller products that Leatherman have on offer I feel are almost more useful. The problem is the Chinese multi tools are on a par with this tool with functionality and usefulness at a fraction of the price. The product does not feel like a premium product either. I am not sure what I will be doing with this tool but not a lot is a definite. Sorry Leatherman but you make amazing products this is not one of them.
