A classic Lego homage to Senna

As an F1 fanatic, I loved having the opportunity to build Senna's iconic MP4/4 over the course of an afternoon and evening – all while watching Senna's documentary for good measure. The attention to detail is terrific. The little story about Senna in the instruction manual was a great touch. The 6 bags made it easy to separate the pieces and take breaks in between. I can see why a model such as this is recommended for 18 as some sections were challenging yet fun. The podium and car holder go really well with the car and the stickers are spot on. If there's anything I would've preferred to make it more realistic would've been wider rear tires. They should not be the same width as the front tires. I'm not sure why they decided to make all 4 of them the same width when the rest of the car is accurate. I would even be willing to order wider rear tires if they were made for this model. I look forward to seeing more F1 models in the future. This was a great addition to my F1 collection.

Another disappointed Senna fan

As a huge Senna fan, I was so excited to see Lego create a tribute to the greatest F1 driver of all time and this iconic machine, as this year marks 30 years since his death. But the final product just does not live up to Ayrton Senna.The internet is full of reports about the failures of this model, but as a fan I decided to get it anyway.First of all, this is a LEGO model, in 1:13 scale. I don't expect it to look like the original. Senna's helmet was his trademark! THE REAR TIRES: the rear tires were almost twice as big as the front ones, and tires are just so visible on a formula car. THE WHITE-OVER-RED PAINT: well, his baby pink. Why not paint red over white?For someone like Ayrton, dedicated to perfection, he deserved better.

Good set with some flaws

This was a fun set to build and I love the theme. I hope Lego makes more of these. However there were several flaws that took the shine off the final product. 1. As others have said the rear wheels are too small. Perhaps this can be fixed if Lego makes more sets like this. 2. Also as others have mentioned the white paint on part 6475049 is thin and thus looks more pink than white. 3. Worse, I was not able to get step 134 (intake manifold) to work at all. The gray pieces 4211508 are not long enough to connect with black piece 6210270. This the manifold is not complete. Not the biggest deal since it's covered up by the white engine cover, but a tad disappointing. 4. Lastly, I was missing a piece (6047276), so I have to order that now.

Great Set for First Timers

This was the first Lego set I've bought for myself. As an F1 fan I was a bit skeptical how the Lego bricks would copy the look of the original car, but man was I wrong.The build looks brilliant, all the little details from the engine, to the sponsorship stickers were crafted with every detail in mind. It looks superb.As a beginner builder I was worried I might struggle with some of the fiddlier bits. There was a few times my untrained fingers struggling to attach things together, but overall the build was a breeze. The instructions were nice and clear.It's clear to see why so many people enjoy building Legos, and I think I may have caught the bug!

Great build, Timely tribute.

I only got into Lego this past Christmas. Built a kit for my grandson and immediately saw how mindful an experience it could be. Then I saw that you were releasing a Senna McLaren. It seemed fated that I was drawn to Lego. Ayrton was the first driver that I followed throughout his career, from the lesser formulae, through F1 and up to May 1st. Not going to lie, it was at times an emotional build. I eked it out to a bag an evening. A method that worked well for me because I have always enjoyed seeing an F1 car stripped down to its bare bones.I love the finished article and it will remain on its stand as a tribute to my hero. I won’t dwell on any faults that have already been covered in previous reviews. I’ll leave that for more experienced builders.What I will say ... MoreI only got into Lego this past Christmas. Great building experience and finished product

I’m on spring break and I need something to keep me occupied (school teacher). So I started with this. The finished product looks simple, but the process to get there was quite sophisticated, in my opinion; the building techniques, very innovative. Always amazing to see that no matter how abstract and simple the source material appears to be (everything is streamlined and pared down to basic contours, for obvious reasons—function dictates form), the process to get there requires a high level of inventiveness. But as I was building it, I realized that the scale was perfect as it works quite well with the system bricks and looks good with the other Creators cars I burned money on.All said—I’m satisfied. Price- Considering it’s Lego and everything they sell is extortionate this set is actually relatively well priced £69.99 but can be found cheaper on other sites.Build- Decent took me around an 1hr 30mins to complete not a complex build just had music playing while buildingRealism- So… the stand out issue for me the tyres, who ever signed off the design to say that all the tyres should be the same needs to be questioned. The iconic MP4/4 features thicker based wheels at the rear covered in the famous GOODYEAR branding. This for me is what makes this a 3* set. The other issue is the branding on the engine cover, the MP4/4 ran Marlboro branding but later switched to the barcode design. This is what I’ve ordered to replace mine.

Nice little runner

Just finished the new MP4/4 kit. A relatively simple but very enjoyable build - very therapeutic (which is why at 70+ I do Lego). There are issues as already mentioned but for me none are deal-breakers although the one I'd want fixed most is the rear tyre size. But why in this day & age do we still have stickers, especially as some parts are pre-printed? Baffling!Overall however this produces a quite detailed and good piece which I am happy to have in the display cabinet. So Lego how about other iconic F1 cars in this scale - Tyrell P34 6-wheeler, Brabham BT46 fan car or Lotus 49 perhaps?

Senna Sempre

Great set, fun build. Some of the build techniques were interesting, especially the engine portion.Two sticking points:1. As others have already mentioned, the incorrect proportions of the rear wheels make this look odd. I would have gladly played more to have them be correct. And if the LEGO strategy is to release any additional cars from this era, then it just makes sense to produce the two sizes.2. The printed white section of the new nose piece isn’t opaque enough and looks like a mistake. Hard to say why it’s so transparent but it makes the whole thing look cheaper than it should.
