I love the Lego architecture series, but some of the constructions can appear rather bland in color; however, this Trafalgar Square set is not like those. It is visually striking and vibrant! What's more, the clever use of Lego pieces to create the building and the stairwell is nothing short of genius. I'm actually suprised that this set doesn't get more love. A wonderful build at an excellent value: I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I used to walk through Trafalgar Square nearly every day as a London tour guide and I was astonished with the detail they've managed to squeeze into this scaled down version. Memories came flooding back as I pictured a miniscule me walking around the square. There are some really neat building techniques, no stickers whatsoever and the final product is very visually pleasing. My only gripe is that the paintings inside the National Gallery appear to be random printed tiles from other sets, including a control panel from the Star Wars line and a bright unicorn. This was a little disappointing as the Gallery is not famed for its stock of modern / pop art and I would have loved to have seen tiny versions of JMW Turner's Fighting Temeraires or Vincent van Gogh's ... However this is a minor thing and once you've built the model you won't be looking inside the gallery that often anyway. Overall I'm very pleased with the build and it sits proudly on my desk where I can reminisce about the years I spent in London as often as I like.

The Lego designers have done an excellent job representing Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery at such a small size. I particularly liked the tree build and fountains. I liked the hidden galleries behind the building but thought the printed tiles used for the art where a bit childish in design but full marks for having no dreaded stickers. There are some nice techniques used to create the stairs and only gets a little repetitive trying to line up all the one by one plates. My only real complaint is with one particular part 6167602 (minifigs neck bracket). About a 1/3 of the 24 parts supplied had a different thickness to the rest. The thicker ones had the markings 23-03 and the thinner ones had the markings (c) 2002 Lego. I loved making this Lego Trafalgar Square but it was over too quickly. I enjoyed the techniques employed to build the whole structure from the base, to the steps, to the structure of the National Art Gallery. For the price it would have been nice to have had something other than Lego dots pieces to display in the gallery but the fact there is art in there at all is a nice touch. Nelson’s column looked good, the lions were a bit dodgy but suffice. I think I assumed it would take longer and be more of a project. I stopped myself so I could spread the build over two days. It is a very clever set and looks cool when complete, I guess I just need to get more but it’s so expensive!
This is a great set. It has some really unique techniques used during building (I’m kinda obsessed with how you build the steps) that make it fun to build. The ability to open parts of the back and look into the gallery is very cool. Like other reviewers, I wish the “artwork” wasn’t so juvenile, but it’s still a really neat feature. The trees, fountains, and buses bring great color and visual interest to the set and it’s just an all around great set.
I love the intent of the Architecture series but I think they could improve on the details that a hobbyist would truly appreciate. As a fan of the National Gallery I was very disappointed that Lego chose to feature generic children's art as opposed to any of the famous pieces that are actually on display.
This set not only looks great—it's so much fun to build! It uses several building techniques I've never seen before (such as in the stairs), and the attention to detail is amazing. The information in the instruction booklet is interesting, and I like how it gives you fun facts about the part you're building while you're building it (e.g. facts about the buses on the page showing you how to assemble the buses). The only 2 nitpicks I have for this set are: 1) The brown telescope pieces used as tree trunks don't show up well on the black background in the instructions, and 2) Attaching the 1x1 round plates to the 2x2 round plates when building the trees is difficult and hurts your fingers. Those are my ONLY two quibbles, however. I cannot recommend this set highly ... MoreThis set not only looks great—it's so much fun to build! I keep all my pieces very organized in little individual little bags, so I can promise you that there were some pieces missing which made everything more difficult. I had to figure out what would and would fit with this build without directions half way through this build! There were so many pieces missing I thought they wanted to force me to buy a 2nd set just I could complete it accurately. The directions weren't super helpful either, because the angles of the directions pictures didn't make sense to what I was actually seeing at in person. I felt a strong positive sense in accomplishing it when it was finished though. Generally I also found this build was boring because it didn't have any character pieces in it. The little cars and double decker bus were very cute though.
Totally agree with two previous reviewers:- the artwork in the Nation Gallery is ridiculous, as one reviewer said, no Van Gogh/Turner etc but instead a ‘cat with a party hat’ and a unicorn.- the lions, their heads are just circlesThe artwork is mainly hidden but the lions really annoy me, I used to climb up and sit on them as a child on trips to London. And you say in the instruction manual the sculptor based the lions on a real lion, shame Lego couldn’t do the same.Having said that, really enjoyed building it especially the National Gallery, very clever use of Lego on its side
I got this set for Christmas. The day after Christmas, I decided to start building it. That is where the problems started. The base is not very strong at all. I had completed about 70 steps and the whole thing started to fall apart. At that point, I decided that I needed to do something about that base structure. A quick trip to Walmart and about $8 later, I returned home with a 10X10 Lego flat panel plate. I have been building on this new base and it seems to be stronger and easier than before. Also, beware that the instruction booklet is black and sometimes it is very difficult to see what black pieces are required to use on steps. Lego needs to change the color to white pages so it would be easier to see the color of the pieces. I think Lego should include that ... MoreI got this set for Christmas. If you are missing parts, beware that lego limits the amounts of replacement parts you can get free. I found that out after buying a bunch of their kits that were missing large amounts of parts out of the box. Because of that, i am forced to buy the parts that Lego leaves out the kit, Is that fair? No it isn't. Just be careful.
