I bought this beautiful model after watching The Force Awakens for the second time.TIE fighters are up there with Darth Vader, the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon as one of the instantly recognisable staples of the Star Wars universe. I had never owned one in Lego before and after the magnificent space battle scenes of The Force Awakens I figured I'd waited long enough. This model is a delight. It is a rare example of almost-minifigure scale which gives it a very imposing feel, and the cockpit holds both pilots (or Finn and Poe...) very comfortably. The intimidation factor is also helped by the striking red bricks and beautiful black-on-grey colour scheme, which I actually prefer over the original grey-on-black Imperial TIEs.The inclusion of a Technician ... MoreI bought this beautiful model after watching The Force Awakens for the second time.TIE fighters are up there with Darth Vader, the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon as one of the instantly recognisable staples of the Star Wars universe. Maybe Finn in his Stormtrooper armour and Poe would have been good additions, but with that being said, the boys who do come with this set are excellent. The new pilots are everything I expected them to be and more. The helmet moulds are great and the breathing tube is flexible enough that I'm not worried about it snapping off by accident. The set does include three blasters rather than four which is forgivable. There doesn't seem to be anywhere purpose made to store the pilots' weapons, but that is a miniscule gripe.I have no complaints about this set, but a word of warning - the wings come off a little easily! My kudos to the designers of the original TIE, the First Order TIE, and of this set. Great work all around.

The main body of the ship is a lot bigger than the original but I guess this is to be expected for a two seater. The colour scheme is in keeping with the fact that this is a First Order fighter and I love the cockpit design with the red screens. All in all not bad for this set.The build took me about an hour and a half and was fairly easy. As far as width, height and depth go it's identical to the original Tie Fighter set so they stand very nicely together. There are a number of stickers which I sometimes think is a bit of a cop out, the two on the external wing root centres are ok but the red ones to add more red colouring to the main body are a bit of a waste. Luckily LEGO have kept the stickers to a minimum on this set.Overall I was very pleased with this First Order Tie Fighter set, lets just hope it makes an appearance in the new movie. The Millennium Falcon is next on my shopping list!

First off, this set is overpriced. Following the usual price of Legos, ten cents per piece, this set is about $20 too high. Unless you're a collector, I wouldn't recommend this set.For the pros, it looks awesome! The cockpit is sweet and the wings attach in such a way that the entire ship looks sleek. I also really love that the minifigures come with realistic weapons. While I understand that Lego is mostly marketing towards children, it's really nice to be able to arm my figures with something that doesn't look like a portable cannon. The minifigures themselves are mostly nothing special, but I feel like they included a good number for this set. The helmets on the TIE pilots are awesome. As for the negatives of this set, again, it's overpriced. The other thing ... MoreFirst off, this set is overpriced. Another reviewer said that the attachment point (a few clips) is quite strong. I don't know what he was doing but mine is terrible! I made sure to push them in all the way, but if you use the slightest bit of pressure in trying to stick a figure into the cockpit the wings pop off. If you set the set down a bit too solidly the wings pop off. If you so much as breathe wrong the wings pop off. I am pretty careful with my stuff and this still happened a ridiculous amount so I can't imagine someone young or not particularly coordinated being able to play with this set for more than a few minutes without it breaking.Overall I would give this set 4 stars as a collector's piece, and two stars as a play set.The time it took to put together is not an estimate, though it may take longer for less experienced builders.

Great Set! One Question
18 December 2015

Let me start this review by saying I have never owned a classic TIE fighter. I have owned multiple TIE Advanced (Vader's) and the Interceptor, albeit never the original or standard TIE variant. As someone who has not built an older TIE, this review may be lacking in the specific experience, however I would like to say after reading instructions to the other TIE models or prior building experience (2 decades) I would love to grant this as the best TIE design.First, I will say that the model is a wonderful size. It fits two pilots (most likely to do with the movie) and feels like a TIE should standing next to another figure. This is not to say that the others do not, but this is a good point I love to keep. Second, the detail is absolutely wonderful. The different colors, sizes, and building techniques used add such a dynamic structure to the set. Speaking of structure, my last point, I was afraid this would not hold well, mainly concerning the method of which the "wings" are attached to the body. As it turns out, they are quite strong! The 8 clips arranged in a square fashion in pairs hold quite nicely. Since they are also protected, there are no shear forces acting upon them, so they hold resiliently. All in all, I am very pleased with this iteration, but I have one issue. Why in the world are the blasters red? They are clearly green since the beginning of Star Wars, and are shown as green (granted the sets came out much earlier than the trailers, but I would assume Lego has information prior). Something that always bugged me flying it around and what not. I get that the design is red, but that's a physical aesthetic, the green is a laser. Also, the price was a tad high, but I understand the potential reasoning.

I do like it, but...

I have been collecting Lego Star Wars sets for almost 10 years now. Every time a new wave comes out, I rush to go get the sets I want, which is usually most of them. To be honest, pricing has really drawn me away from buying too many sets nowadays. I'm not a cheap person or anything, it's just I can't see the logic in spending $70 for a $50 set. This particular wave has actually disappointed me, and not for the quality of the Legos (which by the way the minifigs are awesome). It's the price jumps that have pushed me away and I do not just think it is the hype. I've noticed that Lego has slowly began boosting prices over a period of time, which I can understand, but some of these sets are just not worth it. Battlepacks have even gone up, which once more I can understand, however I fear one day they'll be $20. For now, i'm sticking to the battlepacks and smaller sets as I seem to find more of my money's worth there. This set in particular has some good minifigures and a well designed cockpit to the wings. I think you guys have done very well with the wing stability and the ship overall. I for one appreciate the gunner's cockpit part in the back.Pros: Fun build with the stable wings, cool looking minifigs (awesome pilot helmets), good representation of the First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter, fair play-ability, and ultimately a must have for collectors.Cons: A bit too pricey, would appreciate maybe instead of the First Order crew, maybe a Stormtrooper instead.Overall, (pardon my rant as it is more towards Lego Star Wars in general), this is a fun build with some cool looking minifigs. Even though its a little costly, this is definitely something you would want to pick up for your kids or for yourself.

The completed model is very, very sturdy! The connection of the wings to the body of the ship is excellent making it sturdy enough to be 'flown' around. The access to the cockpit is through 3 printed hatches, making it very easy to place the pilots in and out of the TIE fighter. The new First Order TIE fighter pilot minifigures are amazing! The new helmets are highly detailed and I love the way that the breathing tube on the helmet matches up to the printing on the minifigure torso. The only shame is that the helmet doesn't have any of the red detailing as in the film, but this is very minor. Also included are a First Order Officer and a First Order Crew minifigures. The First Order Crew minifigure's helmet is very similar to the helmets worn by the Death Star Crew from the Original Trilogy. This set is brilliant and an amazing re-design of a classic. It's sturdy, vibrantly coloured, comes with great minifigures and looks fabulous! The only issue with it is the price - I personally feel it's slightly overpriced but that's probably due to new pieces. However this is a must have for any Star Wars, Force Awakens or TIE fighter fan!

Main draw for the set is definitely the Light up Darth Vader, but the tie pilot is a nice inclusion as well. Model is a lot clunkier than those of recent years, but that is to be expected. Only real downside is that the wings feel a little loose, but its no big deal. As long as you dont grab it by the wing and shake it, they shouldnt have a problem staying on. Build Time: 0.5-1.5 hours depending on age and experience. TLDR: If youre looking for a display model, youre probably better off with the getting one of the 20/18/2020 models. If you want a nostalgic Lego Star Wars set and a cool light up figure, this is the one for you!

Solid and great looking model!

I read down through a lot of the other reviews and noticed two distinct 'negatives', neither which I agree with. I decided to write this review mostly to refute both since I was surprised at how many one star reviews there were speaking about them. The first was: the wings to the tie fighter can't possibly be attached using the clips and need to be glued on, thus making the whole model just for viewing. I would wholeheartedly disagree with this. Not only is the final step to attach the wings VERY solid, but my three year old son plays with this model and I have had zero fear that anything will fall off of it. Compared to some of the original Star Wars lego model ships, the recent builds have only made things feel more solid and well constructed. The second was: ... MoreI read down through a lot of the other reviews and noticed two distinct 'negatives', neither which I agree with. Compared to some of the original Star Wars lego model ships, the recent builds have only made things feel more solid and well constructed. The second was: the model is overall too pricey. I suppose this is all relative, but Lego produces striking models and the price point has always been rather high. Perhaps some of the disconnection is that half of the First Order Tie Fighter is in the two large wing panels and there's only so much you can do to make it seem like you're getting 'more for your money'.If I had only two complaints they would be: I'd like to see the black rib structure built on the inside of the wing panels as well as the outside. It's the biggest visual 'flaw' with an otherwise amazing build. The second would be to make the bottom gun/missile turret more detailed. Either make it so it can turn/move to some capacity, or just make it a little bit more detailed. It's literally three lego pieces put together and I don't think it adequately represents why they put a second pilot into the FO Tie Fighter.

Worth the Price of Admission

As other reviewers have accurately stated, this is the preeminent version of the non UCS Tie Fighters. Everything about this set, from the Build, to the printed pieces, to the mini-figures is on point. When I first saw TFA, I was absolutely blown away by the escape scene in which Finn and Poe escape in the Tie Fighter!"Uhh, wow, this thing really moves."I am a LONG time Star Wars fan but, that scene is the one that pushed me over the edge on liking the tie fighter. This set has a lot of great things going for it: First of all, unlike other TIE sets, the wings are sturdy, BIG, and tough. I read another review that complained about having to literally stand on one of the wings (don't try this at home!) to get it to attach to the base/pod, but I had ZERO problems ... MoreAs other reviewers have accurately stated, this is the preeminent version of the non UCS Tie Fighters. I read another review that complained about having to literally stand on one of the wings (don't try this at home!) to get it to attach to the base/pod, but I had ZERO problems with connecting the wings. Once they were connected, they stayed on with no hurdles during casual play. My guess is that something went wrong with that build. The wing attachments are really creative and one of the best, most unique parts of the build. I also like black wing "edges" and how they attach.A big issue for a lot of people with this set is, as with most of the TFA sets: the price, and I want to address that right now.YES, the price is high for the piece count, however, take into consideration what you are getting. A lot of the pieces in this set are BIG plate pieces that, if bought separately on Pick-A- Brick would cost an astronomical amount. As I have said in previous reviews, I am more of a "Lord Business" builder that likes to primarily display my sets, but, the inner kid in me was screaming out thinking about what I could do with all the huge pieces if I broke this thing down. There are also a number of printed pieces ( the awesome red tinted cockpit windshields anyone?!) that are unique to this set. I was honestly expecting the cockpits to be stickers on a set of this price (non- UCS) and was pleasantly surprised when they weren't.On top of all of that, there are 4 Minifigures that are brand new: First Order Officer,First Order Crew, and x2 First Order TIE Fighter Pilots ( that are unique to this set!)I think the value is here when you really break it down.My only real complaint is, unfortunately, the product of one of the sets best features: the cockpit! It is kind of tough to get the pilots in and out of the set which, from a play-ability stand point, stinks! BUT, this is the first tie fighter set that has TWO seats in it (like the movie) so, I understand why it is a bit tight.Other than that it would have been nice if the First Order Officer came with something to hold (Binoculars?...something!) as he is my favorite of the Minifigures in this set.The 2 spring-loaded shooters and a rotating antenna give this set some really nice play-ability that I only dreamed of when I was a kid ( in the 90's)Overall: 8.5/10

Would be great... If it wasn't so over priced
13 September 2015

I've been collecting Lego Star Wars products for 10 years now so I know as well as anyone how the prices of Lego sets climb over time but this is obsurd. To start out I will tell you the set itself is exactly what you'd expect. It's a tie fighter with not much to offer except being able to add an episode 7 tie fighter to your collection. It doesn't offer as much as far as playability with the spring loaded shooters being the only feature. The mini figures they include the are nothing out of the ordinary. With 2 tie fighter pilots for each seat with an imperial officer and Death Star trooper thrown in there for a little something extra. Overall there isn't anything to complain about for the set itself as far as I know, even though I haven't scene the movie yet so I ... MoreI've been collecting Lego Star Wars products for 10 years now so I know as well as anyone how the prices of Lego sets climb over time but this is obsurd. The pricing for the set is what is turns me away from this set. Just a few years ago you could get an almost identical set for 50 dollars but now it's 70. Im not trying to justify the pricing but fortunately for me being an older Lego fan and having a well paying job it's easier for me to fork over 70 dollars for this set. However Lego needs to recognize the majority of their collectors are younger kids who don't have very much money to spare and charging so much is especially unfair to them. I wouldn't be happy but I would understand if they charged 60 for it but 70 is just ridiculous.Bottom line is, I would recommend this set if it weren't for the price but because of that I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
