LEGO 75243 Star Wars Slave I - 20th Anniversary Edition

I purchased the Lego Slave 1 Anniversary Edition because I always liked the design of the ship. The bonus was that it appeared in The Mandalorian. The build took me three days because I decided to take my time. The instructions were easy to follow but you still need to pay attention because you can easily place a block in a wrong spot or miss placing a block and notice that there are extra pieces when you are done with a bag. I did modify where the spring loaded shooters are located. I covered the holes with extra curved blocks and the ship looks better for display. The carrying handle is a nice touch for those who want to play or create a stand with extra blocks you may have to have it display upright. All in all a solid build and the price point was good for what you get in this set.

This is among the most enjoyable LEGO Star Wars builds. It's intricate and fun, and has a great mix of regular LEGO and Technics to create movement. The result is that Bob Fett rotates when the ship "lifts off" from horizontal to vertical. There are 8 separate bags (steps) which makes for a build that doesn't take too many hours. It's an iconic ship from Star Wars that appears in two movies and two streaming series. And it includes "Han Solo in Carbonite"!

However, I will say, the pursuit of a more UCS styled set instead of a fun toy based set hurts it in my eyes. I own the 2005 Slave one, a superb set from an era when sets had more a lego themed aesthetic rather than focused on movie accuracy. This set, consequently, has a few flaws. The older model also has the wings connected to one technic rod, meaning they were both synchronized when they rotated, a design choice removed in the newer model in exchange for a carrying handle and movie accuracy. However, this is not a terrible set, the handle makes it a lot better to fly around your room with and the spring shooters are fun to annoy friends with, and the minifig lineup is respectable, even adding a new figure. I will say that while the 120$ price point does seem a bit high, this set is great if you have missed the UCS slave 1 and do not feel like taking a mortgage out on your house to get it from other sellers, and it also has the art and figure to celebrate 20 bricking years of lego star wars. I would recommend if you are getting your first slave 1.
