A Nice Solid Build

I purchased the Lego Slave 1 Anniversary Edition because I always liked the design of the ship. The bonus was that it appeared in The Mandalorian. The build took me three days because I decided to take my time. The instructions were easy to follow but you still need to pay attention because you can easily place a block in a wrong spot or miss placing a block and notice that there are extra pieces when you are done with a bag. I did modify where the spring loaded shooters are located. I covered the holes with extra curved blocks and the ship looks better for display. The carrying handle is a nice touch for those who want to play or create a stand with extra blocks you may have to have it display upright. A fun build of a Star Wars icon

This is among the most enjoyable LEGO Star Wars builds. It's intricate and fun, and has a great mix of regular LEGO and Technics to create movement. The result is that Bob Fett rotates when the ship "lifts off" from horizontal to vertical. There are 8 separate bags (steps) which makes for a build that doesn't take too many hours. It's an iconic ship from Star Wars that appears in two movies and two streaming series. And it includes "Han Solo in Carbonite"!

A good set if you missed the last one.

As a person who has had star filled eyes at the idea of lego and star wars melting together since I was a young lad, the fact that 20 years have gone by is nothing short of amazing to me. However, I recently bought this set from my local Walmart, and built it immediately upon getting home. It is a very enjoyable experience, and it all comes together in a fun way. However, I will say, the pursuit of a more UCS styled set instead of a fun toy based set hurts it in my eyes. I own the 2005 Slave one, a superb set from an era when sets had more a lego themed aesthetic rather than focused on movie accuracy. This set, consequently, has a few flaws. However, this is not a terrible set, the handle makes it a lot better to fly around your room with and the spring shooters are fun to annoy friends with, and the minifig lineup is respectable, even adding a new figure. I will say that while the 120$ price point does seem a bit high, this set is great if you have missed the UCS slave 1 and do not feel like taking a mortgage out on your house to get it from other sellers, and it also has the art and figure to celebrate 20 bricking years of lego star wars. I would recommend if you are getting your first slave 1.

Whilst I am a fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, I haven't been able to build many of the ships as The Boy has decided that they are going to be all his. I did twist his arm in to purchasing this particular model and he really isn't keen on it so I finally managed to get my hands on a Ship build.Really glad that I did as this was a lot of fun and it is surprisingly stable when built, I did expect it to be pretty fragile. Even better technic beams are used to create a collapsible handle on the base of the ship so it is really easy to pick up and it makes swooping it through the air so unbelievably simple - yes, yes, I may be a grown up but I still had to fly it for a little bit.The mini figures are really cool. Of course, with it being a ship there is not a lot of option to display them on the model but I think I figured something out that works for me. For some reason I really struggle to get mini figs to stand up on my shelving so I always want to try and fit them on my builds then they don't get lost.Overall it looks really effective built and the colour choices with the dark mint against the burgundy really work well and give a good rendition of the ship. However, there is a slight disparity in the colour of the burgundy round edging pieces with the left being a shade darker than the right. Not really noticeable unless you have it under good lighting (my display is very poor lighting at the moment) but I know it's there and it annoys me.Other than that this was a really fun build with very few stickers.Number Of Pieces: 1007Approximate Price Per Piece: RETIRED PRODUCTBuild Time: 3.25 Hours

Fun, accurate model

This iteration of the iconic Slave I from Episode V was a very fun (and very challenging) build. It uses a lot of complex and clever building techniques to get details and the angles just right, and it all clicks together in a satisfying way.A pleasant surprise was the cargo hold with a well hidden hinged door that lets you store Han Solo frozen in carbonite. There are also clips at the back to hold blasters, and the extra grip that swivels out of the back of the model allows for maximum playability, although I would say this model may be a bit heavy for younger children (although if they're that age, they probably would need help building it too).Although Boba Fett's seat and the two wings are supposed to swivel automatically when you prop the model upright and ... MoreThis iteration of the iconic Slave I from Episode V was a very fun (and very challenging) build. The classic 20th Anniversary Princess Leia does make up for it somewhat, though she does have a massive "20TH ANNIVERSARY" plastered on her back, so that detracts slightly from the novelty of having an "authentic replica".But all in all, this is a really nice set and is probably the best playset version of the Slave I in the way it pays homage to its on-screen counterpart whilst still having some fun features and being a lot of fun to build.

Missing piece, but great fun
29 August 2020

I was gifted this set for my birthday last year in October, and while I had lots of fun during most of the build, there was one moment while putting together the section where the left wing attaches to the rest of ship. It was missing a piece and I had to dig through my bin of pieces. Unfortunately I didn't have that piece in that color at the time, and had to use a different color. I also had trouble keeping that part together. I took that section apart and rebuilt it, but it still was flimsy. That part may have been on me though. There was one final instance where there was a misprint in the instructions. Luckily I had seen a video pointing it out, but I thought that half a year later it would've been fixed. Aside from those small bugs I had, I absolutely love the ship, and I enjoyed receiving the Zuckuss figure for the first time ever, plus the exclusive Leia figure, which is my favorite of the 1999 call backs due to nostalgia. I also missed out on the bounty hunter battle pack, so this was nice to 4-Lom, and my first Boba Fett since the 2010 slave one.

This is the second big build I have done with my now 9yo daughter. It’s become a New Years tradition.Overall the build is easy as a lot of it is making mirrored parts. The general finished look is a nice balance of sleek while still looking Lego. I would like to have seen incorporated some kind of backer in the cockpit so one could not see all the way through the ship, but I’m sure this make Boba look really cool if S1 is mounted on a display stand.Aside from the clear cockpit shield having minor scuffs (reordered part), the only other annoyance is the cargo bay. Parts used to construct hinge prevent it from staying open when the ship is on the ground, and Carbonite Han has fallen to an untimely demise when it is lifted during play.Speaking of play value, the ... MoreThis is the second big build I have done with my now 9yo daughter. To that affect I would like to have seen a hinged cockpit. The characters included are nice, and Leia looks spot on when comparing to the one which came with our 20yo Millennium Falcon set.Lastly, Boba’s range finder is a little long and often falls off. This aside the overall detail of his armor is very good. The cloth piece helps hide the contrasting nakedness of the arms compared to the rest of this figure. As with Voltron, every bag was the build for an evening. Halfway through my daughter got a little bored but brightened up once S1 really began taking shape with Bag 6.

Slave 1 What a classic!

This took me two and a half hours to build and from start to finish I was really impressed with the design and the great use of Technic pieces to create the right angles. The whole ship is pretty solid as you would expect when it's held together by that much Technic LEGO. The ship is a very, very good representation of Boba Fett's trusty steed and although it's smaller than the UCS version I think this one is closest to mini figure scale than any of the ones that have gone before. It is going to look great amongst my collection of classic Star Wars ships. In relation to the size of the (75105) Falcon it's about right. The mini figure selection is great for this set and getting Zuckuss just makes the set really worth the money considering the price per part ratio on ... MoreThis took me two and a half hours to build and from start to finish I was really impressed with the design and the great use of Technic pieces to create the right angles. In relation to the size of the (75105) Falcon it's about right. The mini figure selection is great for this set and getting Zuckuss just makes the set really worth the money considering the price per part ratio on this set. I'm not so sure about the main mini figure though, Boba Fett has been produced in a lot more detail in previous sets (with arm printing) and Han solo's new hair (from the Solo movie) is detailed but wrong for this set.Overall this set is great with a few minor cons. The handle has been given some poor reviews but for those that play with this set it's a great feature coupled with the triggers for the spring loaded shooters which are really well integrated. Similarly the base of the ship with the engines has been a source of much debate about visual representation and how this ship doesn't have detailed engines like the UCS version but this is a set that is meant to be played with and to be honest I'd rather look at the front than the back.I now need two things:1. a stand to put it on in flying mode.and2. Somewhere to display it where the kids won't be tempted to play with it (they have their own LEGO).Request: Please LEGO can we have a mini figure scale Bespin Cloud Car soon?

Lego is just not hitting very many runs this year. They just published their numbers and there is a reason their profits are narrowing in 2019...the 20th anniversary sets are illustrating one of those factors. 2019 is not giving us much NEW content...just remakes of sets we already have seen over and over. In a universe as big and full of cool ships as SW this is another in a line of dull retreads.PROS: This set is very well built and looks quite nice on display. It is swooshable and a good play experience. It also features mostly great figures with the inclusion of one of the lesser known but long overdue bounty hunters. The build is actually very fun and uses several clever and non-standard techniques to get the look right. It is swooshable and a good play experience. It also features mostly great figures with the inclusion of one of the lesser known but long overdue bounty hunters. The build is actually very fun and uses several clever and non-standard techniques to get the look right. It holds well to the look of the ship and is truly a simplified version of the recent UCS release. Several play features are included and well done including the hatch to hide Solo in his frozen form and the two firing blasters. Finally, the handle mechanism in the back of the ship works very well and hides for display purposes.CONS: As always I mark down for stickers. Beyond that this set really illustrates why so many fans are disappointed with the sets we got this year. The price per part is too high at $.12 per part with 80% of the parts being well under the average size brick. THE UCS SET which is STILL AVAILABLE is $.10 per part. A bad deal for the pocket book. This set also illustrates the failure of the nostalgia they are going for. Being a remake of 7144 it does improve on the design...but overall it acts as more of a reminder of just how much Lego has inflated their prices in recent years. 7144 was $20...7153 & 6209 were both $50...and by weight provided more plastic than this version, 8097 jumped up to $80 and then there is this one...this one is $120. There in lies the failure of the anniversary series...they are overpriced remakes of sets we already have. In the case of this slave one...it looks good...but compared to the 3 previous versions the play features are way reduced...gone are the hidden storage compartments, the fold out missiles and guns and the clever hidden doors that hid the firing weapons. Compared to 7153, 6209 & 8097 the play features are pretty dismal. While most of the figures are decent this set used a clone head for Boba Fett rather than his beloved scraggly face...the keynote figure and they phoned him in. Then there is the 20th anniversary figure Leia...and while I like the throw back of these they are really just a gimmick to drive up price by adding a "rare collectable" to the anniversary sets. Overall, this set falls short...it looks good but if looks are your goal the UCS version beats it in literally every way from detail to scale to value per part. If you want a play set then once again the previous 3 iterations are far better and can be bough mint on Ebay for %50 of the price. A wide miss Lego. This isn't close to the best version in either category...it was a money grab banking on nostalgia but only served to remind us of just how much Lego is charging now.

A lot of these reviews describe the constructability and playability of the Slave 1. It is truly a well-designed Lego kit plus some. My 5-yo son and I built this over several days, completing one bag at a time. I suppose it can be built between 2-4 hours in one sitting. It was initially intended to be completed when we were home from school for snow days but ended up becoming a great project during our quarantine.I'm a Boba Fett fan and have a budding 5-yo Lego fanatic. I needed a weaponized spaceship that could hang with his overpowering fleet of specialized aircraft. This was it. The accompanying arsenal of lasers and rockets compete with the best of them. Plus, the introduction of "lightspeed" to my 5-yo's vocabulary may have been worth the price alone! The ... MoreA lot of these reviews describe the constructability and playability of the Slave 1. Plus, the introduction of "lightspeed" to my 5-yo's vocabulary may have been worth the price alone! The addition of bounty-hunters Zuckus and 4-Lom is a nice touch too. And, I cannot compliment the carbonized Han Solo enough... Totally cool. What I found particularly enjoyable about this kit was its building evolution. As you move along, you cannot help but feel that you are building the inside of a spaceship with all of its details and technicalities. There are a bunch of subtle angled components to the Slave 1, and you have to craft a couple of unique transitions to get to the final skeleton. These details are more akin to the parts and pieces that you might see in the Lego Technic series - beautiful and machine-like, but not overly complicated. Several bags in and you get to the beautiful shell that conceals all of the magic within. When it was completed, it felt that there was a lot of substance to the ship.
