LEGO Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer Set 10030
The Imperial Star Destroyer is the massively huge, incredibly powerful heart of the Emperor's fleet. Manned by the top crew in the Imperial Navy, the Star Destroyer was heavily armored and bristling with turbo lasers and tractor beam projectors. One Star Destroyer alone was enough to strike fear into an entire star system. This beautifully designed and one-of-a-kind collector's item comes with a special display stand and collectors card. Also includes an exclusive Rebel Blockade Runner Mini-Model, so you can recreate the opening scenes of Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

I purchased this because I wanted another UCS to add to my UCS millenium falcon and this was on sale. As always, it arrived in a behemoth of a package that would put a smile on anyone's face. The construction is complex, especially to the back of the ship. If you have shovel's for hands (like me), get used to accidentally knocking things of and some pieces coming out of place. In some places I had to use glue as it was starting to get on my nerves. I also was missing 2 pieces, but I've come to expect that from Lego. Otherwise, it was smooth sailing. The set is ONLY meant for display purposes, there is no interior decoration like on the falcon. However, between this set and the millenium falcon, I would choose the latter as the falcon is a pure masterpiece and is hard to be beaten

Once completed, this is an absolutely outstanding looking Lego product. For Lego and Star Wars fans it would be hard to beat the "looks" of this set. My son and I put this together over 12 days, a section at a time and the build was made easy by the superb instruction manual that's in a large format that even us old geezers can easily read.We found only a few things annoying, and the were minor compared to the quality of the overall product. Most notable is the stand is a bit weak and "wobbly" laterally, although transversely strong. When you live in earthquake country, a bit concerning, but a problem we solved with an aftermarket larger acrylic stand from Wicked Bricks. Finally, the connection between the upper hull structure and the main hull could be a lot stronger than it is using different parts that would lock it down much better. All things considered, however, this is a superb "collector edition" piece. For an old guy with two sons born in the seventies, forcing me to be both Lego and Star Wars literate, it was a fun project and the end result very impressive. Of course, we had many extra small parts available to "customize" the exterior so it's a unique build -- can't be like everybody else!

What you see is what you get. This set doesn't do anything and is purely a display piece. The building experience was alright. It was very repetitive as you have to build very similar sections twice. Attaching the side panels was also very frustrating as you had to put apply pressure to fragile parts of the build to get them to snap into place. Besides that it was overall a very solid build experience. The completed build is very nice, being way larger than I expected and being jam packed with details. My only complaint would be the few places where colors from the interior can be seen from the outside. It's annoying to see this on such a high priced set, especially when it would've been as simple as changing those parts to grey. Overall though it doesn't take too ... The Price per kilo is pretty much the same as the Falcons and when you’re building it, you’ll realize why it’s worth the high price tag.It might be “just” a remake but that’s goes the same for the falcon. The new ISD improves upon the original in every way. More detail, less panel gaps, more proportionally accurate and most importantly imo, it’s more stable structurally so the bowing problem is non existent. As for the interior argument, and as someone who owns and built this set, I don’t see where they could have added one without compromising its backbone. And the reason the falcon has an interior in the first place is because it has so many famous and iconic scenes that took place in it. Coupled with the fact that the build plane/ area is mostly flat and parallel to the ground so the interior is much easier to implement. That cannot be said with the UCS ISD as the building plane/ technique is completely different and the technic backbone makes it impossible to add one in the first place with going through serious design changes.I think LEGO made the right call to have quality over quantity of features because I’ll rather have no bowing than a interior.
Let’s start with the bad first. Some reviews state that there are a few pieces missing from some key sets. Well that was absolutely true. I had been missing a couple a pieces from a set here and there but not enough to stop the build. I got all the way set 18 before I HAD to stop building! I was missing 8 pieces that are now holding up me finishing. Finally had to go and place my missing pieces order. When I did place it, I was told I had ordered too many pieces! So now I must break up the orders. For something that cost me over $900 this should not be so hard to get the pieces I need. There were also complaints about how it hold together and that is very true. Parts keep falling off and things that should just snap together are a frustrating fight as pieces falls off. To get the two tops plates on took me a hour on each side as they kept falling apart. Finally just crazy glued the parts together.Lastly the stand is so flimsy. It was only half built and sways side to side every time a bus goes by my house. How could not put in any cross bracing?? This thing is literally meant to built where it stays, every move has something falling off.Now for the good. From the very start this is an amazing set!! From the opening and on. The way the boxes are stacked inside is perfection. The instruction book would be worth buying on it's own. The extra details that they give and the pictures are amazing. I bought this set to build and make my coffee table out of. This will look amazing once it done and under glass. This is a huge build and even bigger than you think it would be.
Beyond fenomenal is the way I'd describe this set. Starting out with the popular negative points of it not having an interior and a lack of minifigs, you have to understand this is solely and exclusively a display set. Just by looking at this thing you know you should never pick this up and play with it, thus, if playing is what you enjoy about Lego, this set is not for you, plus an interior would add a lot to the already very high weight. The minifigs are just an nice added bonus, but they don't add anything to the set itself and it would do perfectly fine without them. Now, onto the ship itself, this set is visually an exact replica of an Imperial Star Destroyer; the shapes and proportions are so accurate it´s even scary (all that with the brilliant Lego charm we ... Now, onto the ship itself, this set is visually an exact replica of an Imperial Star Destroyer; the shapes and proportions are so accurate it´s even scary (all that with the brilliant Lego charm we all know and love). The sheer size of it depicts perfectly how imposing a Star Destroyer is supposed to be, and it´s sure to overshadow anything you place next to it and astonish anyone who looks upon it, just the way it was in the begining of A New Hope. The build itself is quite challenging, as building the interior can be quite complicated given it´s all Technic, while you really need to take your time to ensure the external plates all connect perfectly with one another, which in the end might make your fingertips a little swore. All that said however, it´s an extremely fun build, one of the best I´ve ever had. This set is a must have for anyone who calls themselves a Lego Star Wars collector, and even if the price tag is daunting at first, once you actually build it you´ll understand why it´s worth every penny. Lego truly outdid themselves with this one, and I couldn´t be happier that I own it.
I own an embarrassing amount of Lego Star Wars collectibles, so much so that those close to me worry for my mental health. However the UCS series has never interested me, partly due to their high prices and partly their lack of playability with most being designed purely for viewing, often with little or no interiors and few minigures. Not that playability affects me of course for I am an adult. But the Star Destroyer for some is the most iconic ship in the Star Wars universe and my personal favourite. Also the mid-size non-UCS version, despite its interior and possibility for play, is so far from true scale versus the other Lego models it just didn’t feel ‘right’. Also the mid-size non-UCS version, despite its interior and possibility for play, is so far from true scale versus the other Lego models it just didn’t feel ‘right’. So I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the UCS Star Destroyer, The Devastator. The first thing to note is that this is a HUGE model, and I detest all capitals and don’t use them here lightly. When skim reading the dimensions it’s easy to shrug off the 110cm length and 66cm width, but once built the model takes up a large area of a modestly sized room and can lead to a complete redesign of the interior of your home and potentially relationship strife. The model comes with two minifigures, a generic officer and crewmember. The lack of minifgures doesn’t bother me but the inclusion of Lord Vader may have been more appropriate as The Devastator was under his command in A New Hope and a man who has a history of overreacting to exclusion. The model also comes with a plaque detailing a brief a brief history of the ship which attaches along with the minifigures to the stand…The stand is why this model barely scrapes a five star rating and a three for ease of build as it is horrendously designed and no where near fit for purpose. Imagine trying to balance an SUV on four matchsticks, that’s the closest analogy that comes to mind. It was problematic in the early stages of building and then once ~75% completed failed completely causing complete destruction of the Star Destroyer, much like in Return of The Jedi. The building process itself involves 4784 pieces, is complexed and takes 12-18 hours to complete. Personally I found it challenging, technically fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable especially once the ship starts taking shape at half way point.Once completed the model is simply stunning! Well worth the money and just about makes up for the stand issues and the rebuild. The design is incredibly detailed, with personal highlights being the rear engines, turrets, the bridge tower, the shuttle bay on the underside which includes a miniature Tie Fighter and Tantive IV cruiser. In summary this is an incredible model, a real eye catcher, and worth the money, but sadly Lego let themselves down with its terrible stand. With third party foundations and if in budget it is still a must for any Star Wars fan. The boxes suggests ages 18+ but a child of 14 upwards with strong brick experience would cope. Also, with some modifications to the bridge, I guarantee I’ll find playability.
I bought the star destroyer for my son who is a very competent Lego builder. He has built similar sets very successfully and loved inc the Millenium Falcon. This set is not designed well at all as some sections are very difficult, actually impossible, to fit together properly. Some sections extremely difficult to attach when built.Once built it is very very delicate and the stand is far too flimsy and weak for the size of the model.Once my son had built it (to be fair looks amazing once built) we gently moved it to the display area. Somehow a section fell off. We tried very carefully to reattach but it was pretty much impossible and caused other bits to fall off. After may failed attempts to reattach my son decided to take the whole model apart brick by brick. He painstakingly sorted all the pieces into colour pots to make it easier to rebuild. He then set to rebuilding again.Very sadly the same thing happened again. This time he was totally disheartened and couldn’t bring himself to take it apart again to rebuild. He broke it down a bit and put it in a box! This model really needs to be far more structurally sound and needs a much stronger and sturdier stand.Full disappointment all round for this set and such a waste of £650!!! Not a pocket money set!!My son never superglues his Lego sets, this is not an option.I really think Lego need to look at this model again and give it an overhaul.Feels really upset that we have spent £650 on something that should have been amazing but now just sits in a box
I have loved Lego since I was a kid and now as an adult with some disposable hobby income, I truly enjoy working on the more complicated sets that have been appearing.I bought this set the first day that it went on 'early' sale for VIP, didn't even hesitate (I have a very tolerant wife).I finally got a chance to build this thing. It was such a fun build, absolutely loved it. It is easily the largest set I have purchased/built, with the closest being the UCS Sandcrawler (#75059) at 3296 pieces. I have been waiting for a large/UCS star destroyer for so long. I could not afford the original UCS ISD (#10030) or the Super Star Destroyer (#10221) at the time of their releases, and now of course they are even more expensive, so it was a pleasant surprise when this was ... I could not afford the original UCS ISD (#10030) or the Super Star Destroyer (#10221) at the time of their releases, and now of course they are even more expensive, so it was a pleasant surprise when this was revealed now at a time when I have the income to support it.While I love this set, the size, the build process, and the display power, I do have some concerns and issues that I would point out, in hopes that Lego reads these reviews and takes feedback into consideration in future releases. That being said, I genuinely feel that this set is too expensive. As awesome, large, and detailed as it is, it is lacking the comparative detail that the 2018 Millennium Falcon (#75192) has. I am truly disappointed that this set did not come with a Darth Vader mini figure and at least two storm troopers (in addition to the two that it DID come with)..and honestly if it were up to me, it would have come with even more, but at least including the iconic figures would have made so many people happy. That it didn't come with those, truly boggles my mind... For a $700 set, how does it NOT come with the most iconic figure directly related to it? Sure, I can buy a separate Darth Vader mini fig to display with it, but it is the principle of the fact... for the price, additional mini figures should have been a no-brainer...It really wouldn't have cost Lego much to include them (in fact, it might have help this set sell even more as I know the mini fig count is one of the biggest hang-ups for a lot of people). The lack of such iconic and directly related mini figures is almost as frustrating to me as the lack of a UCS information plaque for the UCS Sandcrawler...(don't get me started on that one... another truly mind boggling decision).I must concur with other reviews that there are some stability concerns with the stand from a 'side-to-side' perspective, it doesn't feel as stable as I would like for the weight of this monster. Not sure how I plan to display this beast yet, but whatever I come up with will HAVE to involve strengthening that stand. It also appears that I have some warped pieces. I will upload some pics to show this. It causes some 'flaring' of the nose bits and some misaligned seams. On the particular panel that seems the most warped, the warping also appears to cause the panel to hit the cross member section of the frame (shown in pics)... the set is definitely put together properly and I disassembled the section a couple of times to review...additionally, this is not an issue on the other side, which is identical.I can also relate to some of the other reviews that snapping in the top body panels can be frustrating. The ball joints are understandably tight, I like that they are...But when snapping the ball into the socket, the bricks supporting the ball piece can very easily pop out of the panel. This can be especially frustrating when putting on the last panel as there is no way to reach inside and support those bricks as you snap the balls into the sockets.Over all, as stated before, I love this set and I loved the build process. I DO recommend this set, but only for the most die hard fans of Star Destroyers that have the disposable income to handle it. The value of this set is going to vary drastically from person to person.Thank you for a great set Lego, I am looking forward to what the next 'mega' UCS set will be.
I rate the set itself a 10/10. It has fascinating details, and the category of playability shouldn’t be added to these ‘UCS’ sets. I quite enjoy the various building techniques that were applied, especially bags 1-5. The Technic bits in the building were quite intriguing and something I quite enjoyed. However I do feel the set had flaws just like everything. One flaw I see is the paneling of the gray pieces. In some areas you can see red, yellow and other pieces under the gray panels you add to the ship. Another problem is the lack of mini figures. The two imperial mini figures are quite nice on their own and compared to other imperial officers.
