This is my new favourite model in my collection. Considering it's made from LEGO, and Technic at that, it looks great, the shapes and lines of the BMW S1000RR are noticeable and the amount of function that's packed into such a small size is amazing, e.g.: working forks and shock, a gearbox with 3 gears and neutral with a race shift pattern, front brake calipers and front and rear brake lines. The little details like the front and rear brake fluid reservoirs or that the rear brake lever has progressive resistance are so great. The build was fun and challenging and I love that the instructions were thought through, so that the stand was built very early on to help when building the rest of the model. If I had to nitpick I'd say:- the stator (at least I think that's ... I really hope that this becomes a series like the 1:8 Technic cars supercars and can't wait for another iconic bike set.

All in all, this is a beautiful build and very enjoyable. I specially love the fact that you build most of it while it is elevated on its own stand. However, after finished, I put it on the bike stand and accidentally clipped the chain, causing it to fall off. I had this issue on the Harley but was and to get it back on since the Harley is more open. As it stands I can’t figure out a way to rethread the chain and since it’s a technic, I’m going to have to disassemble a great deal of it to get into the gear box. I guess I’ll get to it eventually cause I really want it fixed. I’m open to any ideas. Except that vulnerability, the build is awesome. Ideally, taking the possibility of something like this happening should be incorporated into the design.

Loved building the kit, it’s challenging and intricate, and the look is amazing. But I am missing a crucial piece and I can’t complete building the kit without the piece. I tried requesting the missing piece online but kept getting rejected because of “validation issues”. Also tried calling customer service but was put on hold without any response for over 45min. Even went to the LEGO store myself but no one had the piece in the store. It’s been frustrating and a bit disappointing. The unfinished set is just sitting on my desk. Despite that issue, the kit is really awesome and I can’t wait to find the missing piece and finish it.
Having not built a technic set in around 15 years, I thought I'd give myself a challenge with this set. First and foremost, this build is very intricate especially when building the engine block. From there, building the frame and panels you get a perspective of the beauty of the real machine captured in Lego. This set took me longer than expected but after a refresh in technic building steps I soon got to grips with it.All in all, a very enjoyable set to build with the end result being a rather big but beautiful model to display! There are some play features but I'm more than happy to leave it as a display model. One thing to note, this build has 79 stickers; if you're a perfectionist this adds to the build time but definitely worth putting the time in to get it ... I purchased this set over the holidays this year for my build I do at Christmas time. I didn’t even finish bag 1 and a key part was missing. I have had this happen once in the past for a set that missing parts plus a miss printed instruction book. So I went online filled out the form for missing bricks only to get an auto response that I didn’t pass the screening process. This is beyond disappointing spend close to $400 and they they don’t put a 10cent part in and I am hung out to dry. I will be going to the Lego store now and leaving this on the counter and letting all the customers know about this. Been building Lego since I was 5 now 38. I have had several sets now with missing parts. Quality is no longer there for the price of these toys. Life long fan till now. ... I purchased this set to build in the winter. First of all, it is a fantastic build right from the start, and if you do not know how a sequential gearbox works, this is a great opportunity to find out for yourself. Understanding how it works is half the fun of assembling it. I realise for some simply assembling the gearbox and engine will be the main goal. But seeing it in action is impossible once the model is complete, so take the time to make sure all the gears work. I would have liked the gearbox to be true to a real motorcycle with first gear making the pistons go faster than second gear and slowest in third gear. The build itself is not too challenging but can be fiddly in parts especially towards the end of the build, where I thought the instructions could ... MoreI purchased this set to build in the winter. But seeing it in action is impossible once the model is complete, so take the time to make sure all the gears work. I would have liked the gearbox to be true to a real motorcycle with first gear making the pistons go faster than second gear and slowest in third gear. The build itself is not too challenging but can be fiddly in parts especially towards the end of the build, where I thought the instructions could have been a little better. I was unable to feed the brake hoses down through the forks (step 378) without first disassembling part of the fork assembly, but this was a minor issue. The most changeling part of the build, for me were the stickers, over 80 of them. Getting them lined up was very difficult and I had to pay particular attention to the orientation of some of the symmetrical carbon effect stickers. The most difficult sticker for me was the information plaque. It is difficult to align, and due to its size and is prone to getting air pockets under it. I would have preferred to find a pre-printed plaque in the box. I completely messed this up and when I looked at it realised an eyelash had become stuck between the sticker and the base plate. Also, the dimple on the plate is clearly visible through the sticker. Removing it and reapplying it proved difficult, and I am still not happy with the end result, so may be sourcing a replacement. For the price in the UK £215 I would say this set is a little too expensive. Overall, a good build and the end result looks like the real thing. My only criticism are the visible studs on the cowling behind the seat. I may see if it looks better with a white or blue tile placed on them.
Great set of stickers. Probably one of the biggest sets of stickers I’ve seen. Two densely arranged sheets, with many of the stickers in related groups with specific orientations. Lego did a good job matching the M color scheme. As a fun bonus, Lego threw in some pretty cool plastic bits so you could have something to stick the stickers to. This was a nice touch, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that, with these plastic pieces, the 79 (as in seventy-nine) stickers very nearly approximate the shape of a BMW M 1000 RR.For replay value, there are three stickers for reproducing different states of the motorcycle’s digital instrument cluster. One representing the initial startup screen perhaps, then two different styles of gauges that the rider could cycle through. I like to begin with the startup M sticker, then use the conventional dial sticker, then I pretend I’m reconfiguring my dash, and I move on to the 80s style bar chart tachometer. You can just put the stickers on your fingertip and hold them near the front windscreen stickers to achieve this effect, or, as noted above, you have the option of putting the stickers on three included pieces of plastic. Up to you.
This motorcycle is a mindblower, no questions asked. It has the single most enjoyable build experience that I have ever experienced in a technic set, and I have built 16 of them at the time of this review. There are never any boring steps or tricky connections, and the motorcycle is built like a tank - it's virtually unbreakable. It also has a groundbreaking 3-speed gearbox with a that usually works very well. It also introduced a plethora of new pieces that are perfect for 1:5 scale motorcycles, and I hope we get more motorcycles in this scale in the near future. However, this set is not without flaws. It also introduced a plethora of new pieces that are perfect for 1:5 scale motorcycles, and I hope we get more motorcycles in this scale in the near future. However, this set is not without flaws. The gearbox usually works well, but not in third gear. whenever it is shifted into third gear, there is so much friction that it breaks the chain in a matter of seconds. And even if the motorcycle is in a well-working gear, the engine is completely covered up, so there is no real point in using the gearbox, anyway. There is also a problem where whenever the front of the motorcycle hits the ground, which happens a lot due to its minimal ground clearance. When this happens, it dislodges the "radiator" and partially removes a large, black panel on each side. However, my biggest gripe is not the price tag, but the number of stickers we get for that price tag. There are almost 80 of them, and they do not appear to be of quite the same high quality as they usually are. It gets really, really old plastering complex panel structures with them. And, lastly, the 18+ age rating. I like it that lego is trying to make their sets look cool, but lego appears to be ditching functionality and playability to get those looks. This does not apply to this set in a huge way, but there is no information on any functions to be found anywhere on the depressing, all-black box. This is lego technic. Lego technic has been about functions since 1977. I support improved aesthetics, but can we have interesting and innovative functions as well?Overall, this is a very good set, especially if you are going to use it as a display model. despite the stickers and hefty price tag, I would say that this set pretty much lives up to it's price.
first things first, this set is awesome and looks amazing completed, i consider myself to be a very experienced builder having built all 3 supercars and i generally only buy the large scale flagship technic models, so i’m no stranger to challenging builds, but i’ve got say this was one of the toughest builds i've done for a while purely because everything is so compact, there are some quite fiddly bits, especially when attaching the 2 sides of the rear swing arm and when attaching some of the body panels in the later stagesi’d love lego to continue with producing more kits in this range, but that being said i think there is room for improvement to make them more realistic/better1 - i found that neutral on the gearbox isn’t quite neutral, if you spin the rear ...
