Almost perfect side monitor

My main monitor is a 32" 4k behemoth. This monitor keeps my calendar and notes as I work through the day, and it is almost perfect. The USB-C interface means I only need one cable; it's so light I'm using a phone stand to rest it on; and using it in portrait mode gives me the length I need for taking and reviewing notes. My only wishlist item would be to have a power button. It is on when plugged in and won't turn off until you unplug it. I use a magnetic USB-C plug to quickly plug/unplug, and it is a great little work around. On the random occasion where I take my laptop on the go, I use it as a more comfortable screen to watch videos on instead of the tiny 13" laptop monitor. It is a bright monitor with vivid colors, so I really enjoy using it for that.

In both instances the USB C connection worked. So it seems like the other reviewer stated, this monitor has a problem with 12th Gen Intel Thunderbolt connectors. When the monitor works, the picture is beautiful. Additionally it is much slimmer than my Viewsonic, thus I am still giving 3 stars.

Excellent Portable Monitor For Productivity
11 May 2022

I was looking to get a second monitor for work and it came down to either this or one of the dozens of 15.6" Full HD portable monitors. Why would I go for this when I could pay $100-$200 less for a 15.6" Full HD monitor, and some even have with touch functionality (this doesn't have touch features). Here's why I went with the LG gram + view.*** 16:10 ASPECT RATIO ***All of the 15.6" portable monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio while the LG gram+view has a 16:10 aspect ratio. With a 16:10 aspect ratio, you're getting some extra vertical pixels. So a 15.6" monitor can run a resolution of 1600x900 while this can run 1600x1000. Although it's not a lot, those extra 100 vertical pixels come in handy for displaying extra rows in spreadsheets or additional emails.*** ... MoreI was looking to get a second monitor for work and it came down to either this or one of the dozens of 15.6" Full HD portable monitors. Why would I go for this when I could pay $100-$200 less for a 15.6" Full HD monitor, and some even have with touch functionality (this doesn't have touch features). Although it's not a lot, those extra 100 vertical pixels come in handy for displaying extra rows in spreadsheets or additional emails.*** 2560x1600 RESOLUTION ***Not only is the LG gram+view's display sharper compared to a 15.6" Full HD monitor but having more resolution means more space to place applications on the screen. On MacOS, I'm running it at 2048x1280 which gives me more working space compared to 1920x1080 on the 15.6". Text does appear a little small at this size but it's manageable. I recommend a smaller resolution like 1600x1000 if the text looks too small for you. Windows users can scale the text size to their liking.*** COLOR AND CONTRAST***With 99% DCI-P3 color coverage, colors look amazing on the LG. Most of the 15.6" monitors have sRGB which while good, doesn't look as vibrant. Also, most 15.6" monitors have 800:1 static contrast ratio (some have higher) while this has 1200:1 static contrast ratio. So blacks don't look dull and grey on the LG.A couple of other things that I liked about the LG.- Only need 1 USB-C to USB-C cable to power the monitor.- Easy to store and protect the screen with the folio cover/stand.- Lightweight and great for working on the go.- Plenty of brightness. I have mine set around 50/100.- Great aesthetics. I like that they didn't put the LG logo on the bottom bezel and makes it look clean.Main cons would have to be the 60 hz refresh rate, lack of a touchscreen and price although I would argue that you're getting a quality product with a reputable brand instead of going for a cheap unknown brand on Amazon.Overall, I would highly recommend this monitor if you're looking for a portable monitor for productivity that is lightweight and can easily be used on the go with just one cable.

Good monitor but poor laptop compatibility

I believe as of today this is the only 16" 16:10 monitor that supports resolutions up to 2560x1600, which makes it the best, and only, in its class. However, if you don't need this specific size or resolution, it might be better to go with another brand.Good:- Currently, it's the only portable 16" 16:10 monitor that supports a resolution up to 2560x1600.- It has two external buttons to control the brightness.- The monitor is lightweight and has small bezels.Ok:- The screen quality is not good, not bad, just ok.- The monitor comes with a cover that works as a stand, but the view angles are limited.Bad:- Poor compatibility: The monitor only works with some laptops and LG doesn't let you know how to identify if your laptop supports it or not. I have three laptops and it works with two of them.Compatible: Lenovo ThinkBook 13s 3rd Gen and MacBook Air M1.Not Compatible: Lenovo Yoga 16 7i with Intel Arc.I took my monitor to BestBuy to see if it would work with another Lenovo Yoga 16 7i they have on display, but it didn't. I tried it with other Lenovo Yoga line laptops, but it didn't work either. I tried it with an HP Spectre x360 16 with 12th gen i7, and no luck. However, it did work with a Lenovo Slim 7i 16" and with a Dell XPS 15 with 12th gen i7.- The monitor has two USB-C ports, but you can only use one at a time to connect it to a computer, so you are losing one port.- Poor technical support: I tried to troubleshoot the compatibility issue with LG, and I had to speak with three different departments. Once I got to the "correct" department, the person that tried to help didn't seem to know much about PCs, so that was a waste of time.- The LG software to control the monitor from the computer is not compatible with Mac.

I've been using this monitor for about a month now, and it is EXACTLY what I needed. I didn't have to install any drivers or anything, I just plugged the USB-C cord into my laptop and the monitor, and it instantly turned on and projects/extends the screen. SO EASY. I can take my computer set up anywhere I want and have the same capabilities as I do at home. The monitor is smaller than most traditional monitors, but I like that it's the same size as my laptop and it takes up less space on my desk.Resolution: The QHD resolution is more than good enough for working/studying, especially at the smaller size. No complaints, especially for the price.Price: It's still a chunk of change for the size compared to traditional monitor, but I think the price is worth every ... MoreI've been using this monitor for about a month now, and it is EXACTLY what I needed. No complaints, especially for the price.Price: It's still a chunk of change for the size compared to traditional monitor, but I think the price is worth every penny for what you get. Lightweight, plug and play, high enough resolution, easy to use and transport.Connection: The USB-C connection was the main thing I needed since my laptop doesn't have an HDMI input, and the vast majority of traditional monitors haven't caught up yet with using USB-C. KEEP IN MIND you do have to use a USB-C 3.1 cord specifically. The regular USB-C cord that you charge other devices with will NOT transmit the video to the monitor.Flickering Cursor: I did run into an issue with my cursor flickering between the "Normal Select" image and the "Working In Background" image when I have the monitor plugged in. I didn't find anything online to prevent that from happening, but I did find a work-around. In "Additional mouse settings" > "Mouse Properties" > "Pointers" tab, you can choose which cursor image is shown for which setting. I changed the "Working In Background" image to be the same as the "Normal Select" image. That way, even though it might technically be switching back and forth in the background, I don't see it flickering because the images are the same.

I don’t think this would happen if I had a laptop that was the same resolution as the monitor.

Stunning Quality, Poor Versatility
7 August 2022

I returned this monitor not because of performance but because of lack of versatility. Let me start by saying how much I love the image quality - this monitor actually looks better than my lackluster Lenovo laptop issues at work. However, that’s where the accolades end for me. The lack of input meant that for those with only 1 USB-C connection, it was either this monitor or a charging cable. I have Macbooks with 2 USB-C ports so that doesn’t hamper anything…and I’m sure the LG laptop has two ports as well. For other manufacturers, meaning certain high end Dells and Lenovo’s, I start the 2hr countdown to laptop battery drainage the moment I plug this monitor in. It’s such a shame, since this monitor looks so darn good.I have other portable monitors that I’m ... MoreI returned this monitor not because of performance but because of lack of versatility. Such a shame. I hope LG (or even Samsung) comes out with something more versatile in the next few years.
