You can arrange stomp box simulations in any order you want, insert an effects loop at any point in the chain, and assign two (not included) expression pedals to any effects parameters you want.The effects are mostly pretty good sounding; some of the reverbs and delays are pretty incredible. The particle verb, which I believe is exclusive to the M series, is just unbelievably good sounding. Another cool effect is the octoverb, which is a reverb that plays back an octave higher than what you play. If you keep it mixed low, it can be a very subtle effect that adds an extra dimesion to your playing. The overdrives mostly sound like the pedals they are meant to emulate. You aren't going to get an exact original Tube Screamer sound out of this pedal, but you are going to get darn close. Some of the compressors and the clean boost sound mind blowingly good. I really don't have much to say about many of the synth effects, other than that they all sound cool. I just don't play any music that would benefit from a synthesiser sound. I have found myself using some interesting modulation effects since getting the M13 that I really wouldn't have considered before, largely because it is so easy to insert a new effect.The ability to use expression pedals is really handy. For example, you could have one pedal control the gain and treble levels on a distortion effect, while another controls delay repeats. Of course, you can have an expression pedal assigned to volume, pitch shifting, or looper level, too.The ability to place stompboxes in any order is a big deal. I find myself playing with unorthodox placements in the signal chain that I would never have tried back when I only used regualar boxes. One thing I have been doing a lot lately is putting a maxed out distortion as the very last thing in the chain. Then, I hit it at the loudest, craziest part of a song and let the delay, reverb, and whatever else I have switched on run through the distortion. Very cool. Another neat thing is to put mulitple delays on with different timings. Additionally, if you have any favorite stompboxes you want to use with the M13, you can insert them at any point in the chain via a programmable effects loop. I use a volume pedal between the first and second effects on the M13, but you could use a favorite overdrive or any other box at any point you wanted.One nice thing about the M13 is that you can create a pedal board with up to twelve pedals, and then save it to a scene. You can save twelve scenes, and they are very easy to access while playing. This means that you can save a separate scene with its own settings and stompboxes for each song in your set. Or, if you play in multiple bands, you can have scenes for each band. I have a scene set up with a ton of reverbs and delays for the ambient/shoegaze band I play in, and another with milder effects and some light overdrives for when I fill in at church or play session work.Finally, one of my favorite things about the M13 is the looping function. You can record a twenty-eight second loop and then play along with it, or do all sorts of things to the sound. You can play the loop backwards, record another layer, play it forwards again, and then the last layer will be playing backwards, while the rest is normal. You can also play it at half speed, which drops the pitch one octave. Or, you can record at half speed, and then play it at normal speed, which makes your loop twice as fast and one octave higher. You can also choose to play the loop infinitely or just play it once through. The loop can be played dry, or run through all of your effects, which gives you the opportunity to do all sorts of crazy things to it. All of this is done with the footswitches, which makes it easy to pull off live.Seems very solid. I have been touring and playing out with it for at least a year now, with no issues. I know some people who have had issues with the switches on other Line 6 products, but I would be pretty surprised if I had any issues with this in the near future. Everything on it is metal, and it ways a ton.I am doing more with this than I could do with my $1500 assortment of pedals before, with clearer sound. Definitely a good buy.

I'm not disappointed at all, it is so easy to used and easy to set up from day one. It also contains more detailed setup features for those who want more options, more effects, etc. I don't use a lot, but I suspect I will branch out into a few additional effects as I become more experienced with the unit. I am most impressed with the quality of the sounds; I have never liked digital before, but this unit is the exception. And maybe you wouldn't hear it with a loud rock band either but on your own or in your sound guy's ears, it WILL change your tone in a slightly unpleasant way. In my opinion, the delay and modulation effects are where this pedal shines--not only in it's sounds but in the "tweakability" of each effect--I can take a standard Phase 90 model and have the ability to tweak it out the wazoo to the exact sound in my head that I want, anywhere from a slow, pulsing wash to a violent, shaking vibrato-esuqe effect--much more than you're able to do one the standard model, but it retains that special sound which has made pedls like the Phase 90 so popular. I really like the fuzz models, in particular the Fuzz Face, and the Tube Screamer and Driver models. That said, many of the drives aren't my favorite--I tend to supplement this section with other pedals, which is perfect because it leaes me more presets on the M13 to use for delays, verbs, and mods.I know this has been said time and time again, but I really love the way this unit allows me to have a virtual library of rare, highly-sought-after, and great-sounding classic pedals all at my disposal, for the price and minimal pedalboard space (at least, it's a heck of a lot less than I'd use if I actually had all of these pedals!). Plus, the thing sounds great. It's the perfct way for a hardworking guitarist to achieve most any sound he can dream up. The only thing I'd ask for in a software update is some sort of MIDI sequencer so I can do arpeggiation patterns on my aforementioned DigiTech Whammy, but that's quite a long shot....

I can route delays to FX loop while routing other effects to the front of the amp.I gave it a CON a 4 star rating because I think they need to release an idiot proof tutorial video. Fortunately I found several on youtube and that helped me figure out how to cable it properly. Search for the 4 cable method on youtube and several vids come up that show how to cable it to the amp so that FX loop is split properly. Great product. I was dithering between this and separate pedals. In the end I didn't want the hassle of various noises you get when certain pedals don't get on, and also the maintenance of seperate pedals. Also, being in a covers band means the likelihood I will end up adding to said pedal board which just gets expensive. I didn't want amp sims as I gig with a Blackstar HT100 and I love it. This pedal fits the bill perfectly. Using the four cable method I use the first row for my boosts/EQ's going into the front of the amp and the last three rows for mods/delays/Rev. It sounds great and clear. Got it on a Wednesday, gigged it on the Saturday. No problems.
This thing is a wonder for gigging musicians! I currently use this with a couple 62RI Strats, an FMT tele (mahogany body and 2 buckers), a Tele Deluxe, and a PRS into a Tone King Comet and a Splawn Quick Rod. I currently use this with a couple 62RI Strats, an FMT tele (mahogany body and 2 buckers), a Tele Deluxe, and a PRS into a Tone King Comet and a Splawn Quick Rod. Other pedals are Budda Wah, Menatone Red Snapper, Menatone King of the Britains, Fulltone Plim Soul, ARC Effects Klone, Basic Auido Tri/Ram, and Barber Direct Drive.I gave this a 5 Star rating because of the following outstanding features:- the 4 cable hook up- scene latching- the programmable fx loop location for each sceneUtilizing these features you have 12 presets of up to 4 pedals being engaged at once, with time-based effects and modulations going into your amp's fx loop, and drives/boosts/comps running into the front of the amp. Want to run the comp into the loop? It's your choice to make! You also can use each scene as it is intended by tapping the Scene button once you are in the desired scene, but the scene latching is a truly useful tool. Especially when using a channel switching amp! (Into a straight clean amp, you may not realize the impact of the loop location, but into a dirty/high gain amp you definitely will when using delays)This pedal is very remarkable, so I gave it 5 stars. However, it doesn't live up to its full potential. The Drive models are largely useless for most discerning tone chasers. The OD's and Distortions all have a lower frequency harmonic thing going on that is very distracting. E.G. if you have any OD or Distortion on, and hit and open D, you will hear a low frequency D note that is a step down from your Low E string. The only drive setting that I've found usable is actually an EQ setting, where I pushed the gain all the way up.With that said, the delays are excellent. The DL-4 was a great pedal for live use, with the caveat of the volume drop; the M13 has all of the models plus some, with more options, AND NO VOLUME DROP! The "dry through" models are exceptional.The modulations are all very convincing and effective models. Most of the filters sound great, with the exception of the U-Vibe, which is still serviceable. Same for the reverbs, and compressors.The bottom line is that this unit allowed me to replace my DL-4, tuner, chorus, phaser, tremolo, and compressor; while costing less than those pedals combined, and taking up less real estate on my board. Having the ability to switch the routing of things around on the fly (into the amp vs into the loop) and switch multiple effects on and off with one button click is a huge bonus.If this thing had better drive models, it would have replaced my entire pedal board except for my wah. With that fixed, I'd give this thing 6 stars!
I judge a pedal on how it affects my playing, and the m13 has made my guitar playing a lot more creative. If a pedal doesn't inspire me to make music, it's not a good pedal. Lucky for the m13 there are 100+ effects to keep me busy.I have used it with half stack 100 watt tube heads, small solid state combos, and with a pod for recording.I tried 4 cable method but there was too much tone loss. This works great right into the front end of a tube amp. The band I use it in plays very loud, and I have no issues with the distortions sounding weak or thin. The key is to make sure your tube amp is set loud with a warm clean sound. I bought this after reading great reviews on it. My thought was I could get pedals that would cost me thousands to buy individually for a reasonable price. I was also thinking if you tried to build a pedal board with all these pedals on it, you are going to have fun getting them to play nice together and a decent tone, where with this you don't have that problem, AS LONG AS you are willing to accept this is a digital reproduction and not quite the real thing. I've had some of these pedals and I can tell you that you can get it close enough where only a real corksniffer is going to care. In fact it was so bad, that I was thinking of sending it back. However, I also have an Orange Dark Micro setup, and with that this really shines. So I think it really depends on your rig as to how well this is going to work for you. If you get a rig that doesn't like it, it will suck. If you get a rig that is cool with it, you'll have fun.It's a crapshoot and it is just impossible to predict what rigs will and won't work well with this, so save your packaging just in case.I suggest watching the YouTube video where the guy demonstrates every single effect. That's what sold me on it. With this pedal you can get literally every effect you will need, unless of course you want to model some specific rig. I bought this BECAUSE it does not include that as I didn't want that, I only wanted the pedals. And it delivers that as well as I could have hoped.Bottom line is it's a great value as long as your setup plays nice with it. It's very intuitive to use I was able to figure it out without reading the manual. Effects are all individually adjustable.
