I own many different products from Liquitex. I recently started painting again and needed to refresh so of my supplies! The Basics paint is a great paint with a matte finish when dried. It is very smooth, great pigment load, very easy to work with. If you are a beginner, this is a good place to start! Very reasonably priced! The soft body collection is my favorite, gives you a satin finish when dry. Creamier in consistency, "richer' in texture. you will see more brush strokes with Soft body. Heavy body is great for a more textured looking painting, impressionistic will be beautiful or if you like working with paint knives! you can have a more sculptural look in you painting (especially if you add their texture effects with them). Was surprised to find art supplies now at Staples, even a large supply of art things for kids. I loved this! So convenient not to have to go to another store. The dry time is medium, not so slow that it disrupts a work session and not so fast that it dries on the brush if you're working the finer details of a section of canvas. It is opaque enough to apply one or, at most, two layers, even over darker colors without their showing through. It mixes well with other brands of acrylic and a little goes a long way (for the white) to lighten a shade or add highlights. For its even coverage and opacity, you will be able to use less of it than the more transparent and thinner paints, so it is a great value. Liquitex Basics Ultramarine Blue - I use alot of ultramarine blue, as I paint with a limited palette. And I love the Liquitex line of paints. You get alot of quality for the money. Even though the Basics is considered a student quality paint, it still has the same archival ratings as the same color in the professional versions. I U. Blue in the heavy body & the soft body as well. The Basics tend to be a little softer & sometimes a little more translucent than the soft body paints, so each has its best uses. #sweepstakes
Basics acrylic are great for beginner or professional artists. They are the best option if you cannot afford professional grade acrylics while still yielding good coverage and opacity. The application of the paint is really nice, seems well pigmented and retains brushstrokes. The titanium white is great as a base color and mixes well with other paint products. It is a dependable product that is econically priced.

I read about these tube crimpers a couple decades ago because they were mentioned in women's fashion magazines. The idea was to use them on tubes of cream in order to squeeze out every last bit in order to get your money's worth. Kept this in mind over the years but never bought one. Recently while looking at my tubes of paint and frustrated about the little amounts that cling to the inside edges and won't manually budge I remembered these tube crimpers. All I can say after using one is WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?! These things are great (!) for getting every little last bit of paint out of tubes both plastic and metal. This crimper works just as well for tubes of face cream and facial scrubs! My son is an impressionist painter, I am writing this review for him. He is almost nonverbal and his speech is unreliable, but I know that Liquitex helps him "talk" through his paintings. One day he came up to me with a piece of paper on it that said Liquitex Basics. I said "who taught you this?" we immediately went to Michael's and from that day forward, he rarely uses Apple Barrel--- he loves Liquitex and the way it dries and lets him touch his paintings with texture.
I bought the big set of all of the colors in the Liquitex Basics line to use for watercolor painting. Since acrylics don't re-dissolve with multiple layers of wash being added like regular watercolors do, I thought I'd give them a try. I was pleased with my first little painting, and I love the vast range of colors I had to choose from to work with. Even though the tubes are fairly small, it really stretches out the amount when they're used as watercolors. I like them and would definitely buy them again.
