I began looking into cast iron pans because we have pet parrots, and wanted to replace our non-stick coated pans with something else. What I found was so many blogs and articles completely raving about the benefits of cast iron, which did make me feel a little sceptical. However reading some more it seemed like a final piece to our set. Since I got it, I have loved cooking on it so much. The heat retention is amazing, works well on electric cooktop, nothing has stuck, and the food tastes amazing. This particular set is a great combo because I can do practically everything in it, from pancakes to steak, curry to breads. It does require proper care from what I have read about cast iron. Clean it up straight after use (some nice serving bowls that have a lid for storage can help motivate!). It's very quick to clean, things stick to it less for me (as a distractable cook that often leaves things on too long) than anything else I've cooked with. A light spray and rub of some vegetable oil after cleaning and just store it. I kept the cardboard from the packaging to stop the oil getting over the bottom of the pan I store on top of it in my cupboard. Get some good quality silicone handle covers (I got generic ones, but I'll probably replace with Lodge ones based on the quality of their stuff), don't rely on oven mitts. The quality of the Lodge pans feels great, and I think they will be an item that will be in heavy rotation for years and hopefully decades to come.

I researched cast iron and considered the Lodge range specifically for about a year, prior to this purchase.I purchased this set for use at home and when camping. Since purchase, we use either the pot or frypan daily.Heat is distributed evenly across the surface and retained well.I’ve also purchased silicone handles and a pot scraper/cleaner from the Lodge range which I would recommend.I’ve been very pleased with my purchase and may add to my collection with pieces from the Lodge Chef series at some point.

This set is a great addition to our cast iron cookware. The Lodge name means quality. It is a very versatile piece of cookware and it has numerous options for use. It was priced at an excellent value at TSC. Shipping was fast and affordable. The item was ready for pick-up after I received my email that the shipment arrived at the store. Overall, the experience was a pleasure. TSC has great value and a nice place to shop.

I have used it multiple times since it arrived. Cast iron really makes a difference for stews and steaks. The lid is a skillet for steaks and very convenient. I used the covered pot as a slow cooker for lamb stew and it turned out fantastic. Well worth the money! Higly recommended.
The cooker performed well during the cooking phase; however, I have two issues with the product. 1. The food inside the cooker appeared to have an unuually dark filmy hugh. 2. My teeth appeared very gray to black after eating. I removed the stains by frequently brushing my teeth. I washed the cooker as instructed and dryed it; then added a thin coating of avocado oil to it; even though the cooker was preseasoned. Running my finger circularly around the inside of the cooker, I saw a gray substance on my finger. I am vegan and acutely vigilant of my nutritional-dietary regimen. I do not consume ingredients, products that are, or, maybe harmful to my system. I no longer cook with the cooker, it sits at the bottom of my closet. I unboxed this set and put it on the stove right away and cooked bacon and eggs, after cleaning it with dish washing liquid. This set is just what I wanted. The smaller pan is a bit heavier than the larger dutch oven. I did notice a little area (about the size of the tip of your index finger) on the edge of the dutch oven that was not fully coated, but nothing that made me concerned. It's cast iron and a few imperfections are just that. I rubbed some cooking oil on it and no harm, no foul!! After I took a paper towel and dropped about 1/2 teaspoon cooking oil and wiped the surface of the lid and dutch oven right away (even though it describes it to be 'pre-seasoned'), I turned the burner to medium heat (the lid portion only) and this baby heated up in about one ... MoreI unboxed this set and put it on the stove right away and cooked bacon and eggs, after cleaning it with dish washing liquid. The bacon made that sizzling sound you want to hear and it cooked perfectly, no burn spots, Same with the eggs, except the eggs did stick a bit in a couple places but not enough to ruin them. After enjoying my delicious meal, I cleaned the pan with clear water, wiped it clean with a dry dishtowel and placed it on a medium-hot burner for about one minute so it will get completely dry. After it dried completely, I added a drop of veggie oil and wiped the entire surface insider, handles and outside with a light coat of oil. This is a great set. The two fit together nicely. I have not stopped cooking with them since they arrived. My food tastes better now. I am accustomed to cast iron and I am happy to own this set. I really enjoy cooking with it because the heat is evenly distributed and meats cooks evenly throughout. I recommend this set. I plan to purchase it again in a month or so.
The perfect size for steaming and baking sourdough bread in your oven. Not too big, so it's easier to lift than the larger ones, yet it's big enough for a nice round boule. Place the dough on parchment on the inside of the lid (frying pan), cover with the large pot so the dough steams. Remove the large pot and allow the crust to brown a bit before removing from the oven.
The cast iron Combo Cooker is hefty, it’s ONLY redemptive quality is the overarching perfection of it’s cooking/baking qualities and versatility. The skillet has cooked my breakfast omelettes* for decades; AND it bakes my ‘Sourdough Jack’ recipe biscuits [or other breads] combined with the ‘pot’ side as appropriate. Now and then, my morning omelette will go a bit ‘walk about’ as I tilt the skillet about to distribute the eggs. The original as-cast surface would probably not allow this. For perspective, if this is my days biggest problem, it’s gonna be a good day.
Who needs a 5x to 10x overpriced, enamel-coated Dutch oven when you can have a tried and true, made in USA, cast iron Dutch oven iron skillet combo?!! I began this purchase wanting an enamel coated cast iron Dutch oven to make stews and bake crusty boule bread. I bought a Lodge enamel coated 6.5 quart Dutch oven because of the reasonable price, but it already had a small chip in the enamel in the box. Reviews mostly agreed that the non-French brands' enameled iron, almost all made in China, pale in comparison to the longstanding metalcraft expertise by the well known French fabricators. But I couldn't justify the exorbitant cost, even on sale, of the French-made brands in my current budget, in spite of rave reviews that their lifetime warranty service rationalized ... MoreWho needs a 5x to 10x overpriced, enamel-coated Dutch oven when you can have a tried and true, made in USA, cast iron Dutch oven iron skillet combo?!! Reviews mostly agreed that the non-French brands' enameled iron, almost all made in China, pale in comparison to the longstanding metalcraft expertise by the well known French fabricators. But I couldn't justify the exorbitant cost, even on sale, of the French-made brands in my current budget, in spite of rave reviews that their lifetime warranty service rationalized the upfront cost. So, I regrouped and realized, first, that I didn't need such a large-sized pot and that I had always loved working with cast iron skillets and griddles, so I got this 3.5 quart combo. Lodge has upped their game since I last got one of their products by **preseasoning** the cookware! The preseasoning means it's virtually nonstick out of the box, though you still need at least a very light coating of oil or butter for most uses. This 3.5 quart size is fine for most purposes for 2-3 people. So far I have cooked scrambled eggs in the skillet with better performance than most "nonstick" cookware I've ever used. Chicken for tacos and salmon in the deeper pot were fabulous. Yes, the meat and fish stuck to pan a bit but SO easy to clean: Scrape out as much as possible with metal turner/spatula, then fill with water to cover stuck-on food. Heat on stovetop a few minutes, no need to boil, to hydrate and loosen stuck food, then empty water and use non-scratch abrasive sponge and hot water (no soap on cast iron!) to remove the rest and rinse with hot water. With cast iron, I always return to stovetop and heat on low-medium a couple minutes to dry the pan so as to avoid minor rust appearing. Follow Lodge's directions to continue seasoning the pan as needed if food sticks more than you'd like. Yes, I admit that if you're cooking an acidic dish (e.g. high tomato content) you may want something other than cast iron, but I read reviews saying that even tomato-based stews showed little effect of Lodge's cast iron on food flavor. I haven't tested that myself, yet, but I will! Unless the flavor is changed a lot (and I can notice subtle flavor changes), I think it will work fine and hey, most of us need a little more iron in our diet, right?!
Cast iron is a whole new playing field, you might think its just another pan but its alot more than that. I truly feel like im cooking on a different stovetop with these pans. The way it holds in heat and cooks all through whats in the pan even when loaded has changed the stovetop game for me forever. Even simple things like frying onions are done a little bit differently on cast iron and its by far the more superior choice in my opinion for stovetop cooking. Yeah the cleanup and treatment somemight call "finicky" and "not worth it" but in my opinion non-stick/teflon is just as, if not more finicky as far as what utensils you can use on it and how you clean/treat it.Beat the living hell out of cast iron pans if you want, they wont care. they are STOUT.Your methods ... MoreCast iron is a whole new playing field, you might think its just another pan but its alot more than that.
