Plus Logitech lost quality making the product in different other countries. When my wife wanted Skype I did a bit of research and the C910 web cam seemed to have everything she was going to need. It was able to get it new on eBay for about $30 cheaper than anywhere else. It showed up and it sat because I told her "You will have to install it." What I like better about the C910 is: 1 - No chrome, it disappears visually into the top of the monitor. 2 - Stereo microphones with very good sound; better than the Pro 9000 to my ears. 3 - Genuine HD transmission 4 - Improved low light sensitivity I would suggest this product to anyone wanting to have a good camera for video calling. Usually I include some con points of a device. I'll update this review when I find one.

The camera has great image quality. However, the microphone is very poor. The product did not include any instructions, or even a manufacturer name. Thus, downloading a new audio driver is not possible. I recommend buying an inexpensive lavalier-style microphone to use in tandem with this camera - or just buy a better all-in-one unit.

The built-in camera in my MacBook Pro works great and I don't really need any control software. Recently though I wanted to move my Skypeing to the family room and use the big screen Sony TV along with a Mac Mini system that drives it. That way I could sit on the davenport and talk to the Grandkids. When I got the C910, I immediately plugged it into my MacBook Pro for a test. It worked right out-of-the box because of Apple's built-in UVC drivers. I don't know what Logitech was thinking with the camera mounting arrangement. It's supposed to kind of lay on the top edge of the screen, no clip-on, it just kind of lays there. While this worked well with the Sony TV, it doesn't work at all with the thin screen on my MacBook Pro. It kind of balances on the top edge and jiggles around when you type.There are lots of reviews on the web about picture quality for the C910 so I won't repeat them, except to say picture quality is great. My interest was using it with Skype in my entertainment center setting. Since you will typically sit back 4-6 feet with the camera mounted on top of the TV, the field of vision is quite wide and your face gets lost in a sea of room detail. You really need zoom and pan to get what you want on the screen. I downloaded the 7 day trial demo for iGlasses 3 and found it worked GREAT with the C910. The package is easy to install and use and I didn't have any of the image quality problems mentioned in other blogs and forums. The package also has the Mac "look and feel" and displays an icon on the menu bar so you can call it up when you want to make adjustments in real time. You select "iglasses" in the pull down list for Skype or whatever program your are using. I made a quick check of Quicktime and Photobooth and was able to select the iGlasses or the raw C910, in both programs. It also worked with iMovie 6 to record video in real-time. Pan and zoom(digital) and all the image control sliders you would expect. Some cool special effects are available too. Remember, since the camera does not have an optical zoom, the digital zoom will degrade picture quality at high magnification. So, if you're 15' away and you move the slider to max zoom, the picture will start to look grainy and pixelated. I found that zooming to frame face(s) at 4-5 feet away from the camera, to be quite good. The iGlasses software is easy to use and I would recommend it for Mac/Skype use. It has much better image quality then my laptop camera. It's much better in low light than my laptop. The mic quality isn't great, it didn't come with the drivers, and I don't like the fact that the USB cable is permanently attached to the camera so if something goes bad with it you can't replace it, you have to send it out to a service center. The price was OK for what you get and over all I'm satisfied with it.

Sometimes it fails for intense talking-to- software like Rosetta Stone but this could be a Rosetta v3 glitch as my Samson mic fails with Rosetta as well. Tone is better with the Samson mic, *richer fuller more base*. Perhaps if you hold it close to your mouth it would work better but you don't want to be holding a camera in that manner as you'll smudge and eventually scratch the lens by handling it. If you can find a way to mount closer to your face (not your saliva though) and keep your hands off it, then you can solve that little problem. I used it as a video movie maker using Quicktime Pro 7. Just chose NEW MOVIE, let the software configure the BEST settings and clicked RECORD! 19 SECONDS made a 2.6mb file. The file I created opens and plays as it should in every mov file player I have. **note**: In Quicktime v10 you have to choose the HIGH setting. Video function doesn't work at all in the MAXIMUM setting. Audio however can be recorded on the maximum setting but I doubt anyone would use their video camera just for sound recordings.What you can't do with this camera is use it stealthily as a security cam as [when it is filming] it emits a lovely **BLUE GLOW** in the shape of a PARENTHESIS framing the lens. The blue band you see in the ad literature is a LIGHT and I don't think they make that very clear in any documentation. I thought it was just a painted stripe. When it lit up I was surprised! In the dark a thief would see that glow from across any room. The bottom line is **WIDE** **AUTO FOCUS AUTO EXPOSURE** are the only features you get from this camera but what a great job it does at both. Very close and Distant are both excellent.Someone just needs to fill the software void, and give us mac users a chance to enjoy all the features the camera can perform. We don't get HD. We don't get the 1080P. We PAY the same, we should be allowed to play the same.I wasn't drawn to online chatting let alone video taping and putting my life or business on YouTube so I didn't need a webcam until now. It is light as a feather so be very sure to have it secured. Video tape the subject for a few seconds using QuickTime Pro, Hue webcam software (free http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/huehdwebcam.html) or even Photo Booth (free with your Apple OS). Enlarge to full screen. Playback. Stop the playback and look for the frames you like best. Screenshot them with your fav screenshot software (I use Snapz Pro). Voilà ! Images all ready. Fiddle with them as you see fit with your favorite graphics software (Photoshop of course or GraphicsConverter).Now that's not the same as EOS or your D3100 with a tripod! It is made for iSight not other webcams.Curious as can be, I immediately gave it a whirl.It does work with this webcam but I think you're better off without it. First thing it did was **DARKEN** the picture. There wasn't one setting that made the image better than it was without it. There wasn't even a setting that just left the image alone. If STANDARD was supposed to do that it didn't. I do like the **mirror** image function (flips your left to right, fun for checking out a furniture change option) and the **zoom+pan**. Took me a second there to swish the mouse hard enough to get the image to pan.**Not worth buying** the software just for these two functions when you have to sacrifice image quality.I deinstalled it and had to restart to return the image to its natural appealing bright brilliant self.I'd leave iGlasses alone unless **zoom or pan** you just must!** **I found a few other mac webcam software products and they all pale terribly compared to Quicktime Pro. Despite being superseded by the C920 and subsequent models, the C910 still boasts excellent image quality thanks to its 5MP sensor. Compare this to the C920's 3MP sensor and it becomes apparent why videos are so sharp and detailed. Frame rates are good even at 1080p, and the device manages 30fps at 720p. Many still prefer the C910's video quality over that of the C920, and while I don't yet own a C920, I'm extremely happy with the earlier model. I use two of these cameras (actually a B910 which is identical the the C910 reviewed here) with Open Broadcaster Studio and despite being warned that dual Logitech webcams would be problematic to set up, I experienced very few difficulties and for these reasons I can still heartily recommend the device.
Image is not as sharp as I had hoped but far better than what I had been using (a Logitech knock-off). The knock-off had a terrible microphone so I tried four different stand-alone microphones with it and none of these solutions were as good as the built in mic in the Logitech C910. Motion is handled better and virtual backgrounds are better with this unit. Mounted it, plugged it in, went to Zoom set-up and adjusted tilt and pan angles and volume and it was working great. Set-up couldn't be easier. Good value and good performance. I would recommend.
