After taking a few years off, I began to teach again at UNC and discovered my previous less expensive presenters finally had given out. Our university's AV guy recommended Spotlight for ease of use and especially the laser pointer option that carries over the Zoom or Captured presentations. The bluetooth connectivity is solid and long range. Other presenter choices include magnification and highlights, all are completely customizable. A little pricing, but well made and simple. Well worth the extra cost.

The Pros:- I've had it for over 4 years and it still works great.- Long battery life.- Fast charging.- Bluetooth or USB Receiver options.- Works on Windows and MacOS (Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11) I've only used it on MacBook Pro M1.- Software is very clear and well designed.- Offers a lite version of the software to use on computers without having to install it. Combined with the USB Receiver this device is very friendly and very convenient when working with public computers or heavily controlled ones.- Intuitive controls considering there are only 3 buttons. The Cons:- On Windows the installed software works perfectly without flaw. On the MacBook Pro M1, it doesn't exactly function correctly. I found that the magnifying option see's through everything to the wallpaper. So any windows, presentations, or even desktop icons like drives, are not visible. Only the background is visible in the magnified area. I have found that for every feature to work 100% I have to use the Lite version which doesn't install on the machine. Not a big deal but I do need to have a USB drive plugged into the laptop during use. This software glitch is why I deducted 1 Star, considering that people with only MacOS will probably be affected by this more dramatically than myself.- If you swap between personal devices often, this device doesn't really smoothly transition between devices using the Bluetooth option. Not that you want to control two computers simultaneously but that if you pair this device to two different machines. You can not reconnect to the second machine after the first one used it. It requires you to remove entirely the device from your Bluetooth list on the second one and reconnect it again from the start. Not a big deal because most people don't use these remotes on multiple personal devices.- A little overpriced considering the very specific market and outdated technology. A lot of options exist that cover all the major functions, the added functions are not justified by the price. Logitech, your competing against yourself.Overall: Very positive experience and I would recommend if you can dish out the budget to select this version over the other remotes. Internal rechargeable battery is one less headache to worry about. Responsive, long lasting, simple function and feels right in the hand. Logitech covered many corners.

I absolutely love this remote. I was a bit worried about my inability (because of lacking admin privileges on the computers in the classroom) to access all of the features of this remote. However, Logitech makes available a lite version of the configuration software which runs from a flash/thumb drive. Problem solved. The only thing a presenter has to worry about is having two USB ports available on the computer to be used (one for the remote, one for the config software). However, this is not even the case if one uses the remote via Bluetooth. Hesitate not in purchasing this - the remote works perfectly and the spotlight/magnify function is superb.

I bought this before covid and used it for the occasional workshop. I recently tried to use it after it had been lying uncharged for over a year.Warning. It cannot be charged if the battery is fully depleted. Even though Logitech is aware of this design flaw, they refused to repair or replace it, arguing that the warranty had expired. You simply have to throw it away.Update: however there is a hack that requires opening the device, breaking the battery seal and jumpstarting it with a 9V battery for about a minute. There is a risk of shorting the device, but it's already bricked so nothing ventured nothing gained. This device (and possibly similar Logitech devices with the same design flaw) should be recalled because even if they do agree to extend the warranty ... I went back and forth for a bit before purchasing this. There were much cheaper options that did everything I needed. But this had some pretty cool features that intrigued me, and ultimately, I bought into the gimmick. And I don't regret it. Yes, I paid more than I could have. And sure, the cheaper options would have been fine. But if what you do is present regularly, you might as well give yourself all the bells and whistles. As a clicker, this works fine. I've been using it for over a month and no issues so far. I've been using it for over a month and no issues so far. I've never really been a big fan of laser pointers - the dot is too small, hard to see in some lighting conditions, and while it's easy to point, you can only point to one screen at a time, which doesn't help much in a presentation space with multiple screens. If what you want as a pointer is a little red dot, the Spotlight Presentation Remote can simulate that for you. But it also offers the highlight (my favorite) and magnify options as well. As a teacher, magnify helps in my classroom setup as the display is really not large enough for the depth of the classroom, so it helps to magnify smaller bits of text or charts for the folks in back. And highlight is nice because it draws the eye and is much easier to find where the speaker wants you to look - much better than a red laser dot. I use this option all the time. And since these options (magnify, highlight and laser) all display digitally like a mouse cursor, they will display on each and every display being used for your presentation, meaning everyone can see what you're pointing at regardless of which screen they are seated closest to or which one you yourself are looking at. Aiming your pointer is a tad trickier than with a traditional laser pointer because it's not actually projecting from the remote itself, but it's not hard and you get used to it quickly. It's kind of like a video game motion controller, if you're familiar with those. The only real downside (aside from price) is that some of the features are only available if you install the necessary software on the machine you are presenting on, so some features will be locked out if you don't have administrator privileges on that machine. I personally just bring my personal laptop and connect to the presentation display that way, so it's not really an issue for me, but that may be a factor for you so I thought I'd point it out. Personally, I'd buy this again, and I'd recommend it for others unless you really don't use pointer features too much or if you don't have admin privileges on the machine you will be using to present. But if those aren't deal-breakers for you, I say go ahead and spend the extra and get all the gadgets.
This remote has several advantages over lower-priced remotes. First, it is rechargeable so you don't have to worry about replacing batteries. Second, the pointer works on any screen - no worries about whether your pointer will show up on the screen (like how a red dot won't display on a tv display). The spotlight remote dims the screen and creates a spotlight on the screen. This is easy to get used to and has "wow" factor the first time I use it in the courses I instruct. It is comfortable in the hand and you can also black out the screen from the remote as well. You do have install a small logitech program to support the remote but I had no problems with that on my windows-based laptop. The main drawback for me is you must download the software to each computer you want to use the remote on. When I use a host's computer, it quite often has the ability to install software blocked (understandably). So, even though I love using this remote, you should always have a backup remote.
The hardware works as advertised, but the software that is required to run on the computer that is being controlled would not launch on my MacBook Pro, running OS 13.3. The Logitech help desk simply says it works, so the problem must be with my configuration so I have to contact Apple to figure out the problem. They couldn't provide any information about configurations or setting that may be required by their software. Every time I point, I have to, essentially, calibrate my hand to the awkward pointing to actually get the pointer to the location I am trying to highlight. Finally, there is a roughly half-second lag between the time the pointer button is pressed and when the highlighting appears on the screen. That makes it even more awkward to try to highlight something for the audience.I give up - I'm returning the product. Enabling occasional highlighting for remote participants is not worth the disruption that trying to use the product introduces everyone else.
very useful! our non-profit purchased this to have available for teaching artists who work in our K-12 residency programs with a variety of smartboard & screen mirroring technology: it's been very easy to use, & advances slides well. plus, the "spotlight" option (though a bit tricky to get to turn on reliably) is a neat plus for emphasizing things! it makes our teaching much more effective when we can move around the room with our students rather than being glued to a laptop or stuck "peeling" the screen on touch-screen whiteboards!make sure to download the REGULAR version of the software, not the "lite." i got stuck on "lite" for hours & it wanted to install it on a flash drive, & i couldn't figure it out. just get the regular version! it stays on my menu bar & i ... As a Mac user, I found this clicker on the useless side. It is at best glitchy, slow and laggy. It does not follow the motion of the hand when in pointer mode, and you cannot choose the order in which the different functionalities for different commands on the same button are implemented. and when presenting to a live audience, you will be obligated to look at your laptop screen to point the "laser", otherwise the pointer goes all over the place. I have a PC-using friend that wants to try this, so it will be gifted to them, otherwise, I would not have kept it at all. Not worth even $1 and not worthy of Logitech brand
